Don't use MS Teams - if you do go with MS, just stick to SharePoint online or OneDrive with files on demand. It works quite well, but IME Teams just gets in the way. Make sure you're using a recent version of Windows 10. GSuite is better to use and easier to administrate. Even if you're not using GSuite, it integrates better with MS Windows and applications than their own product does... Get someone else to own the decision. Get a senior level sponsor who will use it and advocate its use. I may have had some teething issues [emoji16]. But almost 100% PICNIC from my investigations. Some of it is about training and setting expectations. It's not exactly the same to use as a file server, but between the cost savings and the advantages of the overall system, I would still go for it again - just a few lessons to learn for implementation if I was doing it again.

Various ways, but using Diskpart is free and fairly straightforward. The main thing to watch out for is that you don't wipe the partitions on the OS disk of the machine you're using - that tends to end in swearing. I have GSuite configured for SSO with Azure AD (where on premises AD is the source, synced with Azure AD Connect to Azure AD) using SAML. The sign in seems to be working; signing in with [email protected] from https://www.google.co.uk redirects you to the MS login page where it asks for the username again. You then enter your AD password and it directs you back to GSuite. However, there's no access to any of the services. The only message is Server Error We are unable to process your request at this time, please try again later. There is a link to sign out and if you click it, you are redirected to the MS "You have signed out - please close all browsers" page. If I manually create users, it seems to work and for some pre-existing users, but I can't work out a pattern. I'd really rather not delete all of the accounts and start again, as there's data associated with the accounts and I'd want to keep the same user names. Any ideas on where to start looking? Just... Wow I scrolled past the thread earlier and thought: about right for Edugeek. But no. Someone at M&S managed to sneak this past management.

AFAIK there's no built in method to do it without setting up accounts for every user and setting it on every computer the user prints from. I am aware that people have created customised drivers which use the Windows credentials, but I failed with that. We use Hold Print, but to make that work, you have to go in to Printing Preferences and set it to use the windows ID and then manually set the printer code. Otherwise print jobs disappear into the ether(net) with no error message. Causes annoyance here, but less annoyance than searching through the thousands of sheets of printing that used to happen. Plus you can easily log in to the printer's management control and run the reports you're after.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it's still not working Any other ideas? When I restart my PC, there's nothing there at first and then after a few minutes I get the icon alerting me to missing updates, but no option to download or install anything.

I'll take 10 please We're still on 5530s and 5540s for the foreseeable future and I can't even get £100 signed off to buy docking stations..... On another note: how much better are the USB C docking stations, compared to the USB 3 ones? It's going to be years (decades?) before everything here has USB C, but everything already has USB 3.

If you have the option of Edu, can't see any reason to go for Pro.

I'll try resetting IIS. It was working; it's not now - clients are missing updates that are authorised in WSUS.

I have W10 1803 clients with Server 16 running WSUS and the clients seem to have stopped picking up updates. In the tool tray I have the warning icon and in Windows Update Settings I have the "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes." warning. It looks like the client is looking to Windows Update on the internet, rather than WSUS, despite the fact it displays "*Some settings are managed by your organisation" and in the explanation shows: "Policies set on your device Intranet Update Service for detecting Updates Auto Reboot will not happen with logged on users Automatic Update options Specifies the hours before checking updates" I've checked RSOP and it shows my policy applying. Docking stations would save loads of problems if they were everywhere. We've had various editions of latitude E laptops so I've bought a few of the E type docking stations from eBay for between £10 and £20. Definitely worth having - the only issue is that the current versions of latitude don't support it [emoji36] Thanks a lot Dell. If you could find some reliable USB 3 docking stations for about the same price, that would be even better [emoji3]

Late to the party, but FWIW we use "netbook" size laptops for pupils for 2 main reasons; any bigger and they don't fit on the desks; the keyboard size is better for smaller hands. We're an infant school.

So is your aim to keep a local copy on the server and sync to GDrive to create a hybrid cloud environment or are you just planning to use this as a one of for migration?

Is device based activation now supported in the UK? And if not, is the process you're using the same as in territories where it is supported or does it rely on workarounds?

Our staff mostly use the same few machines (and never log off - see annoying things thread). Do you mean when a user moves something from local storage to SharePoint? I presume that if it's a file you're working on, the program would finish saving before it closed. I'll try and test, but I think you'd need some pretty major document changes for it to not keep up with an edit. It would be interesting to know how often incremental changes are saved to the online copy when you're working on a local file.

That's how we're doing it, but it's proving inconvenient for staff. Once they're synchronised it's ok, but they don't do it often enough for it to become familiar and they don't follow them across different machines. It really needs a GPO to "map" the SharePoint library to Explorer; users really want the same experience they're used to with network shares.

We have most of our files in Microsoft Cloud storage of one form or another. We're using Windows 10 1803 and have files on demand set up. I've provided training on how to choose files to synchronise, but some users are struggling. The main interface we have set up is Teams and in secret I'd have to agree with users - I think it's a bit rubbish. Most of the facilities are irrelevant to the way we work - users just want to access the files as directly as possible. My query is what do other people have set up? I'm looking at making a custom web page with links to the document folders in SharePoint, but wondered if anyone had any better ideas....

You can set Chromebooks up for SSO with Azure AD - which of course can be synchronised with on premises AD. The other option is OneDrive/SharePoint online with O365 ideally accessed through files on demand built into recent versions of Windows 10. That's what we have - but FWIW I think Google's solution with team drives works better and integrated better with Windows...

Don't let them test drive it unless they can prove they're insured (not many people are). Don't let them take it until there are cleared funds in your bank account. Cash can work although I find nowadays electronic transfer gets there in a few minutes. Cheques are a no unless they're prepared to wait 5 days.
