Possibly different in a school where pupils are generally not in school at the same time as cleaners, but there have been several cases reported where cleaners have been the first people to come across students in difficulty. We always work on the principle that every adult or volunteer in school has a responsibility for safeguarding and should also understand that they come across confidential information which mustn't be disclosed. There is a data protection issue here, but in my view safeguarding does trump data protection, in that a pupil's safety should never be put at risk in preference to data protection, but there is a balance to be struck. In short, you need to do a risk assessment which will be dependent on who had access to your staff room. A compromise where there's some way of covering them during the hours there's no control over who is in the room (ours is sometimes used for governors' meetings and I personally think it's inappropriate for them to have access to that information) might be the best way forward.

If you want to use conditional access, you need P1. You can add that to your OVS agreement on the same basis (pay per FTE, valid for pupils too). I have discovered another feature which appears to be free even with AAD Basic; in the Admin console, you can prevent syncing to devices not on your domain for both OneDrive and SharePoint. I presume that users can still access and save local copies of individual files, but it reduces the risk of bulk data loss as users can't just scoop up whole directories of files.

I have both set up and while O365 has improved and in some ways has more flexibility, I would have to agree that G Suite is far easier to manage and often integrates into a standard MS environment better that MS's own system. Even after years and years, it feels like MS is always playing catch up.

I have reduced FTE at the interim renewal points. I've also had significant variations in price - although everyone had been pretty close for the last few years. Even with budgets as tight as they currently are, I don't think it's worth changing for £55 if you're happy with the service.

Probably a longer term discussion, but if they used Google Drive, they could host the video and set it view only (no download or edit). Doesn't completely prevent people ripping them and uploading to social media, but makes it harder and also means you don't need to spend time copying DVDs

Does anyone know whether additional users of home PCs can use the office apps downloaded by a staff member? Obviously the member of staff would have to log in to their school O365 account to download and install the software. If a different user logs in to that machine, can they use it or is it only for the staff member. Asking because logging in to the school account would break data protection roles and our AUP. We do have the option of the Home Use scheme, so it wouldn't be a massive issue, but it's nice to give it a freebie.

Contact Microsoft's VLSC account/support team and they should be able to tell you who the reseller was. You could also try the other reseller (supplier of the O365 licenses). O365 subscription may well have been free. Maybe the previous IT support company included it in the total contract price, so no separate bill for the school. Pretty sure M$ don't give away OS licenses for free!

Login to VLSC and go to licenses/relationship summary. I can see all of the agreements we've ever had. Click on the agreement number and it will show you what was bought. If you click on contacts, it should show you who it was bought from. I'm pretty sure that whoever told you it was free to the school has misunderstood something somewhere! If you have no luck with VLSC, I'd head to the finance department. They might have paid for three years up front, so someone had thought it was free for the last two years...

I use the ADMX and deploy by GPO; are you trying to avoid that? Using the templates you have the choice for defaults (I use for staff) and preset which I use for pupils.

I'm more than a bit wary of contributing here as it's difficult to avoid reasoning that's stereotyping or sexist, but here goes.... I suspect that high up the list is the classic lack of role models; there is historic bias and it's difficult to overcome. The controversial one: I hypothesise that it might be down to laziness - of boys/men. For entry to conservatoires/music schools the standard required for violin and piano is higher than other instruments, so you have to work harder to get in. Several of the instruments towards the bottom of the list are now on an "endangered" list; some colleges are offering incentives for double bass, bassoon and even French horn. They're also instruments that you can't start at the earliest age - just because of the size (applies equally to both genders). I don't know if that makes a difference.

The only things we promote are PTA events, which are run purely for the benefit of the school but they're not essential to delivering education. I guess you could argue legitimate interest and as we have no realistic way of differentiating communications currently we'll carry on until a parent somewhere challenges and takes a test case to the ICO/court...

Of course huge numbers of people already don't buy a car - they either lease or choose PCP (and never actually take up the option to buy), so arguably would just be swapping rental by the month for rental by the mile. WRT rural users, I'd agree those who live in the most remote locations would be the most difficult group to cater for, but most people live close to a road where a vehicle passes every few minutes. I am one of those sad people who enjoys driving and am interested in the technology, but I already treat cars and driving in pretty much the same way as white goods; convenience, comfort and price is pretty much where it's at. If I didn't need a car for transport, I'd seriously consider one for entertainment - the way people keep horses or boats currently.

Not a comment on LGfL, but we control our YouTube access using GSuite. You'd need to have GSuite set up and to access anything on YouTube users need to be logged in to Google. With AD synchronisation and SSO it's transparent to users. From an admin point of view it's set and forget and (as someone new to GSuite admin) I got it set up in an afternoon. Suitably authorised users (for us it's just me, but you can delegate to any group you choose) when you view a YouTube video you just click on the link to authorise it.

If it's being used on work premises during working hours you could argue that it is for the benefit of the business and therefore business use. If you're training yourself at home in the evening, but for some reason have a business provided broadband line, your case is stronger. I'm not saying you're being unreasonable, just that they have a case too and when it's their product, it's their decision so you might not win the argument...

I use the "SMS Backup and Restore" app having lost texts when a phone failed. This lets you save backup files (in XML format) to a location of your choice - I use Google Drive. You could then factory reset the phone and it's then just a case of reinstalling the app and restoring from the backup file. Obviously test the backup before you wipe the phone.

I've just installed Lineage 15.1 on my OnePlus 2. Everything is working apart from Android Auto which won't start with the error message: "Something Went Wrong - Google Play Services doesn't seem to be working right now" All other Google apps are working so I'm trying to work out whether it's a red herring. I was wondering about installing a different version of Google Play Services from APK mirror, but I'm unsure of the update process. Do you just download the file and install it out do you have to uninstall the old version first? I was previously running a different Android 8.1 ROM, and Android Auto ran fine, but the phone kept overheating and shutting down when using GPS.
