  1. Couldn't survive without them, especially where disaster recovery and offsite data is concerned. Students/ Pupils - 200MB Teachers/ TAs - 4GB Administrative Staff - 10GB Staff Share - 50GB We then have media areas; videos, photos, pictures, music (school purchased) set to 500GB. This data is excluded from disaster recovery. The idea being that staff use the media areas for all things media related, keeping their profiles down to docs and the like.
  2. Is it possible to define a separate policy for staff and students? Currently I have a complex policy configured on the default domain policy. It has been brought up recently that the lower level students are struggling to log in due to remembering the complex passwords. Thoughts are to revert pupils to a 4-5digit number password, thus removing the complexity. I have tried defining a separate policy for staff and students, however the top level domain policy seems to override. Can anyone clarify if it is possible and how the top level/ lower level gp's should be configured? Thanks
  3. The test account I was using
  4. For some reason non admin accounts are able to access c$, d$ shares, without on a 2012 server I recently installed. I've checked and mirrored settings used on a 2008 and 2003 domain, both of which working fine, prompting the user for non-admin for authenatication. However the 2012 server is not challenging for authentication, the user can (if so inclinded) create a shortcut to the d$ admin share without challenge authentication. Help! What should be the NTFS permissions on the drive?
  5. Hi folks, I'm after as many filtering solutions you can come up with that will provide unauthenticated users with an authentication challenge box when they attempt to access the internet. We've been using a Meraki MX Security Appliance, which has been pretty sweet until something screwed one of the config files (guessing firmware). Meraki tell us factory resetting will cure, however I can see this happening again and again and... So we're looking for other solutions...
  6. Excellent, thanks
  7. Am I right in thinking I can go from Snow Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.X and then directly to Mavericks? In effect, missing out Mountain Lion. Or do I need to go from Snow Leopard 10.6.X to Mountain Lion, then to Mavericks? If so I'm assuming the cost for Snow Leopard is this: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (UK)
  8. PM sent.
  9. It all depends what statics are assigned above 100 (shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted). It may be the LA haven't got any devices on statics above the assigned scope, but I would have certainly checked prior to extending... Not everyone will assign a reservation Also, definitely worth keeping a record of the number of network devices you have, both on statics and obtaining leases... Don't forget WAP's
  10. I was quoted £428 ex VAT.
  11. We've got two at an edu client, in fact both printers are the only printing provision for both staff and pupils on the school curriculum network... The printers are most certainly work horses, a nice upright design and very reliable, if for somewhat on the small side tonner collection box. We've been using a company called Cartridge Stockroom, they've come in very reasonable with their own refilled cartridges.
  12. I've also educated folks on the value of the 'freeze' button on the projector remote
  13. Well I've set the time out to 20mins at one client, that's the maximum I'll go to... Caught a pupil using a teachers logging session just last week, all because the teacher hadn't locked the computer... Pffffft!!!!
  14. Not so much how to do it, more a query of how long you set before the unattended system locks. 5mins, 10mins, 15mins?
  15. More of a rhetorical question really.
  16. How much will it break installing it?
  17. Hi all, just discovered one of my client schools has a macbook pro (been hidden away). I'm keen to set Apple Configurator up on the device and manage a small provision of iPad's. The macbook currently has Snow Leopard 10.5.8 installed, which as I understand isn't supported back AC. Can anyone advise on the process/ costs involved with upgrading from this to Mountain Lion? Apple (United Kingdom) - OSX Mountain Lion - Move your Mac even further ahead. Thanks
  18. glennda thank you, initially thought the built in socket had been tried, the good lady tried it this evening and apparently all is working.
  19. Err for broadband? Glennda yup tried both ways... I figure it's an exchange issue or a openreach box issue, considering the delayed period before the call will dial out it must be something along those lines.
  20. Ok so the gf has just moved house, with that she has got a new Sky package, including phone line rental. So all was going fine, the phone line was supposedly activated, router sent to house, activation date was Monday the 7th. The problem is, Monday has now passed, and whilst she can receive incoming calls, outgoing calls can take up to minutes before actually dialling out, also a weird noise (her words) can be heard before dialing out. It's also worth noting that their is no carrier detect light on the router. The better half called Sky, which resulted in them requesting she remove the front panel off of the Openreach box, checking wires etc. They also asked whether the router had been plugged in prior to the activation date. Any suggestions folks?
  21. Depends on how much data they already keep
  22. Excellent thanks
  23. Speaking from experience, Schneider Electric APC can be dreadful when it comes to customer service... I recently had an arguement with them in regards to a brand new 700 series unit, which they claimed was out of warranty. After a rather fraught telephone call, they eventually concluded it was a processsing issue at their end. IMO the web based setup is a chore, plus it doesn't feel as tactile as the old software driven menu system. Where do people purchase the borri devies from?
  24. Yes, highly possible depending on the volumes of traffic.
