Anyone know how to create an msi from VMware player 3.1?
robk posted a topic in Educational Software
We have been using Vmware player for some ICT demos for a while, but I need to upgrade from player V1 to V3. Does anyone know how to build an MSI from the vmware supplied installer? The switches for V1 do not work. Tried googling but running out of time as usual. -
I am running a phased upgrade from office 2003 to office e 2010. 2003 was deployed by gpo 2010 is deployed by startup script. I have added a dummy msi to the gpo to upgrade (and therefore remove) the old version of office, before the startup script performs the new install. The startup script was copied from technet. Office installs but file associations are not correctly updated! Customizations are done in setup.XML to put in org name etc. What have I missed?

If your looking for a school based system I can`t fault the clickview / clickview 24x7 Combo. Its not cheap, but reliable and combined with an ERA licence and clickview exchange a great teaching resource.
-
What I did was created a new top level folder for Staff only resources, and gave read access to staff, leaving everyone access to the main clickview library. As I understand it access rights always inherit, so you can`t for example have a staff only sub folder under the main tree, but you can create as many top level folders as you want.

I would also like to publicly thank Clickview support for contacting me having read my first post to ensure I had solved the issue. Now that's support. Thanks Joe.

It turned out that I needed LDAP host LDAP://qegs-1.queenelizabeths.derbyshire.sch.uk:389/DC=queenelizabeths,DC=derbyshire,DC=sch,DC=uk and user cn=, cn=Users, dc=queenelizabeths, dc=derbyshire, dc=sch, dc=uk Just in case it helps anyone else.

[bug/error] Mobile skin last page link goes to first page
robk replied to robk's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
Just for info thread title goes to last post, clicking last post goes to first. Very workable once you know that. I suspect thread title target has been changed? Can the last post icon be hidden easily, as that would get rid of the confusion. -

Hotspot I think is the name of the thing.... Don't know about joomla though. -
I know that a number of software companies are forcing schools to re-licence their software on conversion to academy status. I thought it might be good to start a list of who is insisting on this. Apparently (though not confirmed myself) Boardworks insist on a new licence. Feedback would be good... That extra Academy money will soon be spent on software by the looks of it.

Would anyone who has got Clickview Library Access Manager to link to Active Directory be willing to share their connection settings with me? For some reason mine really doesn`t want to connect to AD, it may be that its being hammered with file uploads etc at the moment. Will have a good look at it over the weekend, but of course Clickview tech support will not be around till monday.

I appreciate your concern over safety, However we are a secondary school, so not so little fingers. I hold a degree in electrical engineering so understand the risks and how to mitigate them. More practically we can`t place orders at the moment so would not be able to order the new PSUs till April at the earliest. All I really need to know is is the connector center +ve or -ve.

Can anyone confirm the polarity of the Activeboard power supply. I have two here that someone's cut the low voltage cable! I can safely repair but I suspect the board will not like the supply reversed. Many thanks
-
Yes made interesting reading. I can confirm in this case its not the PSU as the drive is failing outside the nas box as well as in it.
-
Just tried spinwrite, the pc in question is not showing the drive, to even start spin write. Doesn`t look good to me at the moment. (though it could be a fault on the pc!)
-
@midget I took the lid off the nas not the drive! Very important distinction! The drive does spin up so recovery with spin rite etc may be possible. Will give it a try.

I have a Maxtor Shared Storage II 1Tb drive here, which I have been using as a NAS on my home network. It seems to have died completely, so after a little googling I have taken the lid off, attached the drive via a USB sata interface to a machine running knoppix. No partitions found. Has anyone been able to retreave data from these units? This is the single drive version, not the dual drive raid version. (The drive just flashes the power light rather than starting up.) Dont really want to lose all the isos, photos etc on that box, but if its gone its gone....

Has anyone seen either a very low cost or ideally free package that can intergrate information from a ical calendar and a to do list and generate a gant chart? I keep being asked to provide project plans which are not really much use, its easier for us to use a shared google cal and our job logging system and work from there. However, if I could merge the data from both systems into say OpenProj that would be great. Anyone done anything simalar?
-
Smoothwall UTM does indeed run in routed mode and can NAT etc. Assuming the Fibre is going to be terminated with a media converter and you can plug a ethernet cable in it Smoothwall box or simlar would be a good move, why install two units when it can be one.

Advice Needed for Ranger Alternatives
robk replied to Grommit's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Gromit, have a look at impero. New version supports mac and does everything in ranger and ranger remote. Free versions? Not sure I am sure some one will comment shortly.- 1 reply
