TSOHost no longer supporting sch.uk domain
robk replied to rckngslnd's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Has anyone transfered a sch.uk domain name to cloudflare? They appear to be able to make it work, but it doesnt look like they support the domain transfer (or maybe I have to pay the busness cost). -
TSOHost no longer supporting sch.uk domain
robk replied to rckngslnd's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I am debating Cloudflare or other hosting (Krystal seems highly recomended!) whats Krystal's costs like (just to host DNS for a sch.uk domain name). -
If you are running Net2 Pro then yes, you can "zone" doors, fire input into a door triggers the other doors to go into fire mode. There is an argument that the Fire interface should be fail safe, but then you will already have green break glass points should you need to get out in a hurry!

The docs I read seemed to indicate deleting the failover removed the subnet from both servers. Hence the down time.

We have 4 DCs, 3 out of 4 have now been upgraded to Server 2022 (from Server 2012 R2). The last DC holds several FSMO roles (but that will move when I demote it) The snag is that the last DC is also the DHCP server for all our subnets, with failover configured to 2 different DCs for different buildings. Whats the best way of migrating this? I could delete all the fail over configs, basically rebuilding DHCP from scratch, but that's going to create down time. Export-dhcpconfig does not appear to include failover info. Is there a way I can backup the DHCP server, remove from the "old" DC1 and restore to the "new" DC1?

Snag is if you connect both "halves" of your van switch to a different switch you will bridge all the ports together so all not of the vlaning will work.
-
Ah, be careful.. You are effectivly splitting the switch into 2 using its vlan capability (which is fine) but if you then try and connect 2 connections to a "internet" style router, you will either end up bridging both networks with the switch in the router. The WAN port is unlikely to do DHCP etc. Guessing you want DHCP for dante for auto config etc. I think you need either a different router, or static IPs on one of the networks (which would avoid needing dhcp).
-
@drew571 If the router has multiple ports, you could connect 1 port to "each side" of the switch, You would have to allow connections from one network to the other to allow ipad control to get to devices on both Dante and the Soundgrid network. From a quick google looks like you may be using a wifi AP that only has 1 network connection? You may need to add a router as well if you want the Dante network to get to the Soundgrid one. I think Dante uses multicast traffic, (not a digigo user so not sure what Soundgrid needs).

How to actually speak to someone in the Microsoft UK Education Team
robk replied to kennysarmy's topic in Licensing Questions
I did attend a virtual meeting with Microsoft on the licencing changes. They basically were fairly candid that they realised it was going to create issues. The A1+ removal was due to "none compliance". Thr storage limits due to some edu organisations (think universities) were using huge amounts of space that were now costing MS to provison. Not an answer to your question, but might give some background! -
So speaking in very general terms... We had (& have) I very similar problem. Our hall nearly passed its first inspection (failed on the wrong safety's in use, so we swapped them). Our drama studio failed as the fittings used by the installers were not load rated, but the bars have not fallen in the 10 years prior to inspection (don't ask...) so we have taken that risk. Electrically The Drama studio also failed due to 2 RCDs (no discrimination in protection) which again isnt dangerous. We have on record a report from the school's electrical contractors (who didnt fit this supply) covering that fact! Worth looking at whats there, and risk assessing what its actually failed on. Assuming there's some power and the possibility of a DMX cable to the bar, LED lighting can be easy to fit, and very low power.. I have gone for pc control with a wifi link back to an artnet to DMX box. means I can do simple stuff on a kindle, bigger stuff on Chamsys MagicQ.

What exactly has failed? Rigging, electrics or all of the above? Has it actually failed or just been condemned by someone wanting to replace...

We used to have a neat google sites based "start page" that auto logged into via SSO when you opened Chrome. You just had to click OK on a message to confirm it was "you". Since Google Sites has been re-vamped this no longer works. Has anyone got any methods for getting this to work without having to type an email address? Google support don't seem to know how to get this back and running as it was.

Mike, You def want to contact Smoothwall, I am sure they will help. It might also be worth describing what you are wanting to do. For example adding a second internet connection to a S8 is fairly straight forward once you have done it once. The first thing Smoothwall will need is a scope of work, so its worth getting that together ahead of time anyway.

Thats quite an old unit.... (We have a couple here) Its possible that it doesnt support auth mail or TLS 1.2. Ours goes via a smtp relay on site to get round some of these issues (the relay was set up for our photocopiers to be fair!).

I can confirm that is the full reset process for a NET 2 Plus ACU, had to do the exact same thing a few weeks ago. It can be worth doing a "reinitalise" door from the software first, that re-loads the doors copy of the database and sometimes smooths things over.
-
So you want the door to be "automatic" on exit but not entry? Would an IR Alarm sensor wired in the exit button position work maybe? We just went with exit buttons for exit, cards for entry. All staff and students now have cards.

Nice to see a resolution! Its so easy to miss read labels etc isnt it. Thanks for posting the working fix, it will help others needing the same setup.
-
I think they may not honour warranty replacement if you didnt buy from an authorised re-seller (eg ebay) but they have always been great at supporting us. I have actually done the installers course, but not at my current place of work!

Is this just enter the mifare serial no and press enter? If so there's some very cheap readers that will do that. (Approx £20 from amazon)

DFE 4G routers, laptops and tablets
robk replied to SchoolsBroadband's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I think the Huwawi 4G routers had custom firmware on them that locked them to a given APN. Once the APN disappeared you can't update them to the normal firmware. -
Ignoring speaker and amp choice for a min. From a wiring point of view is there one or two spekon points at the front and back? If there's 2 then it's a fair bet that a standard 2 core speaker cable is run from the back connection to the rear left speaker, then looped to the front left speaker, then off to the front connection. Repeat for the right hand side. If it's a single connector and you have stereo, then it's a NL4 4 wire connector at the faceplate so will need matching to the amp. What does the current amp etc look like? Assuming the wiring puts the 2 speakers per side in parallel your amp needs to be able to drive half the impedence of each speaker so for 8ohm speakers needs to be able to drive 4 ohms (fairly standard) 4ohm speakers needs to drive 2ohms (needs a bigger amp). Def worth checking the wiring out before ordering the kit. You may need some speaker cables making etc.

Now you know there's a photographers thread... @elsiegee40
