  1. For some reason we didn't get on with Expanse at all.
  2. So....here we are again. Another year another problem. And this year no gigs or festivals to go to! I would quite like to buy him an appropriate joystick for Elite - can someone link one for me - not TOO expensive Any good hard sci-fi come out this year? Any other ideas- but do read back - many things have been mentioned!
  3. Truth Seekers was let down by the very last episode, that should have been at least 2 episodes in my opinion. Too many things happened at once, too many things weren't explained but glossed over and the final bit was confusing (trying not to spoil for others( I did like it though
  4. I am very glad I have left education I'd like to see someone try and tell me that I could work in a school with 350 children who don't do social distancing and yet I am not allowed to go home and cuddle my grandson
  5. Just been watching Disenchanted on Netflix. Seems OK All characters look like they are from Futurama (yes, I know, same people made it, but they made the Simpsons too and few of these characters look like them)
  6. The OP was only talking about streaming the assembly to other classrooms though? I agree if the assembly is to be shown outside school then GDPR does come into play
  7. Son's 30th on Saturday. We had arranged to meet for present exchange and then out for brunch. He messaged me to tell me that his climbing partner's flatmate has tested positive and so his friend has had a test. So his birthday may not actually happen This, along with a work colleague's school finding cases, is evidence for me that the numbers are rising here quite quickly. Up until now we hadn't heard of any cases really
  8. Out walking the dog at stupid o'clock this morning, in the rain, thinking of nothing in particular when BAM - dog hauling on the lead like a demented thing, my arm is nearly out of its socket and I'm thinking - what the hell? Thought it was a cat (dog is half whippet) but couldn't see it. Eventually I spotted...a frog! The frog seemed non the worse for its ordeal (dog tried to grab it) and hopped happily away. I was very pleased to see it as we have seen very few in recent years despite the plethora of garden ponds and fountains around here
  9. I'll have a look when I am back in on Monday
  10. The problem is that many small business owners are seeing their life's work going down the pan and many are in areas where they have never seen or heard of anyone with Covid-19, so it is very hard for them to be all altruistic and feel that the lockdowns and restrictions are for the greater good. I did a quick straw poll this morning and no child in the school - 350 pupils - has presented with Covid-19 symptoms, no adult has had it and we have one member of staff isolating as a relative might have it, and one whose Uncle died of Covid-19 and other complications back in March. Most of my friends don't know anyone who has had it other than one who, with her husband, had it the week before lockdown. So everything seems pretty normal around here at the moment.
  11. Soft toys now gone to himself above All plastic squishy toys available!
  12. You are right, we can't carry on as normal, but neither can we lockdown again and risk thousands of jobs and cause mental issues for years and years to come. I think it was fairly obvious that once the universities went back there would be a huge spike, because young people, and there is an argument that the cases at universities should be taken out of the area they are in as they are having a disproportionate effect on the R number - a friend lives just outside Nottingham and because of the two unis there they are going to end up being locked down when their own area is almost infection free. The closing of pubs early won't work - another friend was talking about something and she said "it was around 6pm but my son had already gone to meet his friends in the pub because they have be out at 10" So that measure isn't going to work. I feel that masks should be mandatory if you are within 3 metres of a person or a building and the vulnerable should take extra care (at least they can get food and medicine delivered without leaving their houses) Snap lockdowns will help reduce the strain on the NHS, it's true, but they won't really affect the final tally very much imho
  13. Here it is in all its glory!
  14. As some of you may know, I am leaving educational IT at half term. I am currently sorting out my office and I am wondering what to do with the shelf of BETT toys. Nobody really wants soft toys anymore, do they? I do have a little Ruckus dog which I shall be keeping, but I have a load of plastic cats, bees, toucans, owls, fish alongside soft cats, teddies etc Even my grandson, not quite 5 months, has alreadygot a load of soft toys and I don't think my son would thank me for giving him any more!
  15. I can endorse these. Daughter wears them when she is on site (she designs bomb disposal robots) and finds them comfortable and safe
  16. Preacher (Amazon) Looks promising - have long been looking for a replacement for Justified and Bosch -different genre but hopefully this is equally entertaining!
  17. Slaughterhouse Rulez on Netflix Simon Pegg doing what Simon Pegg does, with Nick Frost as usual and Michael Sheen It isn't Shaun of the Dead but it is an amiable film with a few laughs and the odd jumpy moment
  18. I hadn't seen it either. This phenomenon where things only appear after you've been told about them I am going to call the Topic Reality Paradox
  19. My school heard nothing other than a phone call from the local senior school who HAD got the message Very poor communication
  20. #Alive - Amazon I think Korean Zombie movie which is actually pretty good - certainly made me jump here and there
  21. Not exactly a ghost story but.. Every time I drive to my sister's I listen to the radio and usually flick between Radio 4 and Classic FM (as I do all the time) Every single time I hear a Chopin piano piece - which our mother played Yesterday I went to see my sister, and was just laughing to myself about this - just coincidence I thought Then I flicked over to ClassicFM and guess what was the next piece of music played? I listen to ClassicFM all the time and rarely hear anything my mum played - but on the way to see my sister - always I wonder if it is mum telling her girls that she is still around
