Found it! If you have "Remove common program groups from Start Menu" enabled in group policy, it prevents the tiles appearing.

I'm using a domain admin account to create the XML file. I'm then logging on using a test student account. I've removed everything from it now except anything to do with Office and it's just coming up blank. I am deleting the test student profile from the machine everytime I change something so that it has to re-create it all.

Thanks, but no difference.

Like so many people on here and everywhere I am struggling with the Windows 10 Start Menu. I have; Logged in as a user Set the Start Menu to how I want it to be run 'Export-StartLayout -Path ".\startlayout.xml"' Copied that file to a share which everyone has read access to Pointed to its UNC in GP -> User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Start Layout When I log in as any user who has that group policy assigned to them, the only thing which appears in the Start Menu is the calculator, which is detailed completely differently from everything else in the XML file. I don't redirect the Start Menu. There are no errors in a GP Results wizard. I've spent ages Googling and am struggling to find much. I don't want to go down the Classic Shell route. My xml looks like this; Has anyone got any suggestions please? Thank you Stuart

Does it include any updates which then offer a Windows 10 upgrade?

Chrome Keeps Crashing When Using Edugeek Website
Jawloms replied to JATSO's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
Running latest Chrome here no problems. What OS? I'm on W10. -
looks like chrome wont support flash in the new year
Jawloms replied to sted's topic in General Chat
According to the linked article it isn't that it isn't supported, it's blocked by default and can be unblocked on a site-by-site basis so there is no reason for the companies to convert their flash content, or for teachers to move on and find a different site. Shame -
2GB, apart from SLT who are unrestricted.

Our business manager wants to change a ledger code. Apparently we can purchase a tool from Capita which will do it, but obviously the word "purchase" implies spending money, which none of us like doing. Does anyone know of any way of doing it? Has anyone made a free tool to do it which others have had success with? Or does anyone know how much Capita's tool is? Thank you Stuart

And setting the file permissions correctly on where you're redirecting to. I have been in places where students rename things on a redirected desktop/start menu and it then appears on everybodies.

It's not just the cost of hardware repairs of fried kit, it's also the downtime for teachers and students, and the (wo)man hours of rebuilding and restoring a server which has had an improper shutdown and killed the RAID/OS/whatever. I think the real discussion should be how many UPSs do you want? We have dual power supplies on all our servers and two UPSs. Each server is then fed from both UPSs and each UPS is powered from a different electrical circuit. I believe this is fairly standard?
-
That's irrelevant as the UPS should come with software which will safely shutdown the servers for just such a situation. It also saves you a load of headache if the power cut lasts five minutes. Sounds like the head needs to do his job and let you do yours. If only we could get away with saying things like that to them eh?

Microsoft to move out of the education market?
Jawloms replied to Dave_O's topic in Licensing Questions
You've never needed to include staff who don't have regular access to a PC, like site (in some cases), kitchen, cleaners...... -
Hi all, I am backing up my Virtual Servers using a script running free Veeam. It has been working for ages but has recently started randomly failing. I've had a look and at the exact moment it fails I also have this in my event log; Information - VSS - 8224 The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout. I have of course Googled this and found this which says under resolve "This is a normal condition. No further action is required." I beg to differ as it's making my backups fail! Has anyone got any suggestions please? Thank you Stuart

My school is in the middle of a field in Suffolk. The biggest company near me is the Co-op, followed by a hardware shop and a couple of pubs. Good plan though. We have kids from well funded backgrounds so it's worth a shot. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Does anyone know where I can look for grants I could apply for on behalf of the school for IT kit? I've tried Googling, but the only results I can find are grants I could apply for as a parent from a school. I'm not sure what to search for. Thank you Stuart
