We use both... 8+ devices uses DirectAccess, everyone else uses RDP. The general consensus is that most people prefer the RDP feeling of working on 'a real computer'. We had a 3rd party remote app solution (medhurst dashboard) which was wildly unpopular. Some of our staff still get in a muddle with DA and use the RDP option instead.

Just to add to what @Axel has said, you will need to licence each server instance you create, that was around £75 per server for us x4. You also have to licence each connected terminal as this is not included in your core cals, at around £4-15 depending on your subscription and if you use SCCM to manage the servers and provide SCEP antivirus you also have to licence the management CAL at around £10 per server. You also need to consider flexibility, USB clients are obviously limited by the 10m confines of the USB protocol, what happens if you need a terminal outside this? VGA clients are even more restricted. If you have ethernet everywhere already I would use a ethernet client every time. You can pretty much run 10/100mb ethernet down a piece of wet string. I'm sure you can see why the use-case for WMS is very very situation specific, and it is a debate that needs to be had whether the thin cleint route is the saving you thought it was going to be when it's going to cost £75 a year to run the server and up to £150 for each client, compared to some refurbished machines at less £100 each which have a windows licence included forever and CALs included in your core bundle if you have OVS. You are unlikely to get superior performance, particularly graphically, from a terminal compared to say, a 3ghz core 2 duo.

Likewise, my email for flash took around 12 hours to arrive. My Reader licence took longer, maybe 72 hours, but I got an 'apologies there is a delay in processig your application' email after 24 hours.

What is confusing you? The Axel thin client is a dedicated terminal to connect to an ethernet connected multipoint instance.

That's weird... We've got 2 very complex nationwide mortgages and we've never been asked to do that. Nationwide provide their own insurance product which has proven to be very cost effective, why not get a quote off them directly and see if they can fulfill their own requirements?

Or you can invest in a metric:censored:ton of cable ties and if it moves, put a cable tie round it. Disable power buttons, get an electrician to provide fused spurs for every computer not plug tops, tie cable to PCs so they can't be unplugged. It won't stop wanton vandalism, but it'll stop the bored fingers from fiddling with stuff.

Be really careful with USB connected clients, we had ncomputing usb clients and if someone wiggled a USB lead all 10 USB connected clients crashed and required a push button restart of the server.

I had a very successful trial of an @Axel Model 80 WMS thin client. Eventually we decided the licensing of 4x multipoint servers and the associated Client ALs and System Center management ALs was more hassle than it was worth and just bought a suite of 35 refurb desktops at £85 each from @ICTDirect_Dave This is the link to the Axel offering Axel: AX3000 Models 80WMS

It's also available in prefs, control panel settings, IE 10 (or 8/9) advanced, multimedia. If you enable one and the other is disabled you'll get inconsistent results.

Glad you've got it fixed, but just for future reference before you try too many things, I've had significant success with replication issue firstly by using the command dcdiag /showrepl from each DC which can often give a more helpful error than the one that gets logged in events. I've then run an error check on the drive containing sysvol (which I set as a separate drive so it'll run while the server is still live). Sometimes this is enough to fix it. I've also run an SFC /scannow, but I'm uncertain how useful this is. I've also then previously rebooted the server into either safe mode with CMD or recovery console, and run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Occasionally I've had to do a force replication Force sysvol replication – windowstricks.in The secret with this is to make sure the source is your working DC. It sounds like you may have rep'd a broken/blank sysvol and then restored it from a backup which then successfully rep'd. Looking at the matrix, it would suggest that you can fresh install downgrade to 7 enterprise or fresh install to 10 enterprise under your software assurance rights. It does not look like you can go 10 home -> 10 Pro but I don't understand why you would want to if you have 10 Enterprise available to you.

I expect it depends on what your subscription is, but my OVS allows me to put whatever I have in my software assurance on whatever I like provided it is owned by the school and had a pre-existing licence of some sort.

Provided they aren't asking you to do each other's jobs, I wouldn't see too much of an issue with it. My last place IT and MIS both reported to the same deputy head and it was no problem.

We've got about 50 pairs of them and I've replaced 12 in 3 years. So I'm pretty happy with them. The only issues I've seen with them in normal use is twisting the cable repeatedly breaks the fabric cover. The only time kids have been able to break them deliberately has been standing on the cable and yanking the headphones to rip the cables out.

Indeed. There is a small conspiracy theory part of me that wonders if some of these issues are built in to force reboots to apply updates to servers that could otherwise be left upright for months!

Mine does that too. I've just set my WSUS server to restart at 4am on Friday mornings and it hasn't keeled for a couple of weeks. It's no biggie as it only does WSUS and WDS.

NM... Termtime plus 5 days. Overtime was choice pay/TOIL but has now gone to TOIL only unless I apply for overtime to achieve a specific task.

You haven't got a proxy wormed it's way into the clients somehow? can you run netsh winhttp show proxy and check that?
