Tier 1 Online are my comparison quote for ICT Direct.

This is something I've been mulling over for a while. We get a bit of flack for "not always having every letter that was ever sent out via the registers ever" available to publicly download minutes after the kids are handed them. We need this to be achievable with no technical knowledge and accessible to staff. My thoughts so far... A sensible folder structure in a shared folder that is fixed and cannot be changed by staff into which they drop .docx or .pub files A powershell script to convert either file type to PDF and copy to a second identical structure and delete originals run multiple times a day A folder sync to somewhere - I'm thinking G Suite because Sharepoint Public sharing is cludgey. Ideas?

Insufficiently deep packet buffer on your switches? Ye Olde Broadcom network driver issue?

It's difficult to check on the price quoted like that as we are buying telephone hardware (70 phones) initial config plus support over a 3 year deal with unlimited calls (to 01,02,03,07 and 0800 and within the fair use policy) for a shade under 8k. After the 3 year deal expires we own the hardware (including the hosted PBX server) and it moves to a rolling £35 per extension per year with support and all calls, and a flat hosting fee of £500. I think that makes our ongoing costs after 3 years £2.91 per extension per month?

I trust the guys who are supplying these phones. They also supply our broadband and filtering too and the system is a value-add to it. I can't even do it myself for the price these guys are doing it for! I've done my due diligence and I can't find a downside, there are 25 other schools using the same system with the same supplier, I've spoken to 5 of them, they're all delighted. The central IT from our MAT can't get a quote close to them on price.

Came in on a Saturday, deployed and configured 8 new switches and 36 new (albeit preconfigured) phones. Can I just profess my love and adoration for the Link Layer Discovery Protocol... "Oh, I need to tag $Uplink to $VLAN but I can't remember what port I plugged it into, oh, wait, Hello LLDP tab, I plugged switch 'A Block, Cab D switch2' into port 41."
-
If you could that'd be great! I need to make it cheap, the BM at one of the schools is twitchy about the safeguarding implications of smartphones, she'll have a coronary if I tell her they're going to cost real money as well! 😂

We're looking into some new handsets... We'd need 5 of them, and they need to be £80 or less. Android 7 or better, 4g and 3000mah batts. Compatible with the 3CX app! We've got a vodafone contract, but it's sim only and our current iphone 5 and samsung non-smart candybars are not compatible with 3CX!

[1809, ou] Windows 10, moving away from using 3rd party AntiVirus software

SCCM licenses are cheaper than ESET and you get a whole heap more than just AV! -
Yeah, I'd go with that. Those B110 mice are bomb proof

Word not printing but only when you select a page range

I had this and it turned out to be a papercut issue that was never resolved on any of the versions we had available to us. -
B*gger. I'll add that to my list of things I need to recreate over the summer.

Does anyone know if SCCM plays nice with a domain rename?

So, a weird thing happened last week... loads of students got failed folder redirection and access to home drives - some students got asked for credentials every time they clicked a redirected something, some of those credential boxes said something like 'password expired' on them, some just got an unable to access message like the item didn't exist, not just that access was denied. I restarted all the machines involved and access to user folders and drives has all come back fine. As far as I'm aware nothing has changed server side - the server hasn't been restarted since christmas - it's due to be restarted next week for updates. What has not come back reliably is start menu redirection... The start menu literally just shows modern apps. I don't get it. There are no errors in GPresult, a session is opened to the server from the user to the start menu folder, the contents of the folder are copied to the users local start menu location, but it just doesn't get displayed - I can check this by changing the contents of the start menu and logging off and on again and watching the folder contents change. It's not replicable with any certainty which doesn't help tying it down. the ICT teacher reported 2 days of lessons where it was fine, and all other lessons at least 1 machine didn't display it. If the user logs off and back on, sometimes the result is the same, sometimes it fixes it. Anyone got any ideas?

Got impero? When it happens, try doing ctrl alt del and then just cancelling and seeing if it comes back to the desktop...

We've got a bought copy of MLS Junior Librarian from 2012 that works just fine and we're perfectly happy with, but we would like to put it on an additional computer. I've spoken to MLS (now part of Capita) this morning who have said that we are licensed to put it on as many PCs as we like, however... We can't find the installer and if you pick up the existing program folder and put it somewhere new it complains about requiring an update. Capita say they have neither the update or the original source installer as they only provide support for the librarian.net hosted version of the software which is A) eleventy billion pounds a year. B) slow. So... Does anyone have an installer for MLS Junior Librarian versions between 3.2.2.30 and 4.5?

Win + I gets you to the modern settings app if start menu or taskbar methods fail.
-
Perhaps I'm missing something... Just this morning I've deployed this by copying and pasting the created scratch directory into the C drive of a bunch of machines and it works fine. You could do it on a file creation GPO set to run once.

Consistently poor experience with EXA Networks
Oaktech replied to epoch_roots's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We don't have internet with them so I can't comment on them as an ISP, but they manage the DNS for one of our legacy domains and I've noticed the complete opposite. A couple of years ago it would take, maybe, 4 messages of: 'I want XXX change' 'No, not YYY change' 'No, really, just do XXX' 'No NOT that. Just type this into your box *type exact change as if I was doing it myself*' 'Finally, Thankyou!' To get a DNS change done, and they would accept change requests from anyone with the right email address. Now, they request verification of every change from me or my boss, changes take about 20 minutes and they're done right first time. If you aren't comfortable managing your own DNS then I would have no problem recommending them as an MSP for that. -

I understand the intent, but no. Even if I did have that level of monitoring, I would resist very hard any decision to use it. -
Apparently there is some sort of issue with Azure and WindowsCore today - MyConcern is unreachable and TargetTracker is very, very slow...

Yup. It was great.

It be borken and borken hard. all of our GA accounts use MFA as does my personal account and our BM's. We are reduced to email on phones because none of us are at our main sites today!
