  1. We moved to a new MIS that has a safeguarding module but it was found very quickly that the safeguarding module... Did not fulfill our needs... And the migration was cancelled and we are still using MyConcern 5 years later. Be *very* sure that what you are buying into fulfills your requirements.
  2. Our biggie is Notebook files. We're telling staff and students to check the file is visible in the OneDrive or Sharepoint website before logging off.
  3. Reg key: Key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Keyboard Layout\Preload Type: REG_SZ Name: 1 Value: 00000809
  4. I didn't get involved in it particularly besides setting the policy, but we trialled Swiggle for students enforced and it lasted a week before the computing lead asked me to switch it back to Google safe search. For context we also have Smoothwall removing most ads and monitoring/blocking searches and results. Our esafety auditors are happy with that.
  5. The Unifi stuff is fine, but it only currently supports 3rd party cameras that are ONVIF protocol and you lose all of their bells and whistles baked into the camera. If you are just after dumb cameras that just throw video at an NVR they'll do just fine. ONVIF cameras can be got really cheap online. One of my sites uses it like this - nice thing is you can back up to a cloud location which reduces the need for enormous HDD on premises.
  6. Make yourself an the owner of of the team if you aren't already, set the 'delete by owner' policy in teams admin centre, profit.
  7. I'm seeing this with a few users this morning. All M365 OWA so I think it's an MS issue. Clearing cache, trying a different browser or using a fresh machine or incognito mode doesn't seem to solve it.
  8. My wife has the Yealink A40 at her place and literally nobody uses it. They all turn up and just use their laptops and say it's too complicated, I wouldn't waste money on it.
  9. You say it won't boot into normal mode - have you tried a Ctrl+Alt+Del while the screen is black? Depending on where it fails sometimes you can initiate task manager - run new task or win+r to get something useful. If you can get a command prompt by one of those means you are off to the races, especially if the user is already a localadmin.
  10. We enable the bromcom teacher app for school devices. It works well enough for day to day things. We certainly don't encourage the use of the MIS or the app on personal devices. Their have been a couple of times, mainly for school trips where it has become necessary to access pupil data in an emergency and the staff know to do this via the website in incognito mode so the data is removed at the end of the session.
  11. I've been a 100% refurb guy for nearly 15 years now, but I'm seeing more and more issues with batteries and keyboards. Usually refusrbishers will only give 3 months on a battery, and it's still only 1yr on a new battery. I've got over 150 HP Elitebook 830,840, 850 G5&6 in circulation and the oldest are cracking on 5years old now and I'm seeing a steady stream of out of warranty battery faults. Fortunately I can still get quality branded batteries for this particular model but I'm replacing at least 1 battery a month at £40 a go, put this alongside replacing reprinted keyboards that staff have scuffed up at about £75 a time on about a quarter of them, it's taking the shine off the savings. With a bit of group buying power we can bring in a Latitude 3450 a shade over £500+vat & a base model Thinkbook 14 Gen7 at a shade over £300. Still 100% on refurb desktops.
  12. Redirect proxy in internet settings to 127.0.0.1? Lockdown proxy settings.
  13. It is... Don't worry, they put you away in a special room while you do the conferency bit.
  14. Bletchley park? https://issuu.com/bletchleypark/docs/bp_venuebrochure Or actually come somewhere near me out in the provinces for a change? https://www.science-park.co.uk/meetings-and-events/axis-conference-centre https://www.bic.co.uk/conferencing/conferences https://tankmuseum.org/services/venue-hire#1583236444160-fc789799-327f All with good transport links from London.
  15. Anyone else having issues with access or permissions on calendars? Everyone who has access via a security group seems to have lost access to a personal shared calendar. People who are shared to individually seem to be fine.
  16. We've seen it from time to time using the 6 digit codes but since we moved to the push notifications it's stopped.
  17. We've not had any instances of them going walkies but they do have a K lock slot.
  18. Call support and basically don't hang up until someone is actively looking at it for you.
  19. You can delve a bit deeper if you need to with wireshark, and it's a fun little experiment which might make you look like a network god in a dire emergency... https://unit42.paloaltonetworks.com/wireshark-tutorial-decrypting-https-traffic/
  20. Inspect the page and have a look, or use a device that's in an unfiltered, or lightly filtered group and see what it's calling out to in the reporting.

    2FA

One site is entirely 2fa for every login, no exceptions and we're issuing OTP C200 dongles to all of them, staff and Y6. My other 2 sites are both conditional access onsite to not require the 2fa onsite and we give dongles to staff who don't want to use personal devices offsite - therre's literally been 6 staff out of 150 who won't or can't. https://www.microcosm.co.uk/order/product.php?ProductID=396
  22. We've found the sense hat to be really useful with scratch because it's so immediate, you click something on the screen, something lights up, you shake something values change. Our favourite has been a cookie clicker game using the joystick made in scratch and a snake game initially using the joystick, but eventually modified to using the gyros so you tilt the whole Pi to direct the snake in Python. Snake game basic code: from sense_hat import SenseHat from time import sleep import random sense = SenseHat() sense.low_light = True GREEN = (0, 255, 0) RED = (255, 0, 0) YELLOW = (255, 255, 0) START_DELAY = 3 MATRIX_MIN_VALUE = 0 MATRIX_MAX_VALUE = 7 MATRIX_SIZE = 8 while True: gameOverFlag = False growSnakeFlag = False generateRandomFoodFlag = False snakeMovementDelay = 0.5 snakeMovementDelayDecrease = -0.02 score = 0 sense.clear() sense.show_message("SNAKE GAME") # Set default snake starting position (values are chosen by preference) snakePosX = [3] snakePosY = [6] # Generate random food position while True: foodPosX = random.randint(0, 7) foodPosY = random.randint(0, 7) if foodPosX != snakePosX[0] or foodPosY != snakePosY[0]: break # Set default snake starting direction (values are chosen by preference) movementX = 0 movementY = -1 while not gameOverFlag: # Check if snake eats food if foodPosX == snakePosX[0] and foodPosY == snakePosY[0]: growSnakeFlag = True generateRandomFoodFlag = True snakeMovementDelay += snakeMovementDelayDecrease score = score + 1 # Check if snake bites itself for i in range(1, len(snakePosX)): if snakePosX[i] == snakePosX[0] and snakePosY[i] == snakePosY[0]: gameOverFlag = True # Check if game-over if gameOverFlag: break # Check joystick events for event in sense.stick.get_events(): if event.direction == "left" and movementX != 1: movementX = -1 movementY = 0 elif event.direction == "right" and movementX != -1: movementX = 1 movementY = 0 elif event.direction == "up" and movementY != 1: movementY = -1 movementX = 0 elif event.direction == "down" and movementY != -1: movementY = 1 movementX = 0 # Grow snake if growSnakeFlag: growSnakeFlag = False snakePosX.append(0) snakePosY.append(0) # Move snake for i in range((len(snakePosX) - 1), 0, -1): snakePosX[i] = snakePosX[i - 1] snakePosY[i] = snakePosY[i - 1] snakePosX[0] += movementX snakePosY[0] += movementY # Check game borders if snakePosX[0] > MATRIX_MAX_VALUE: snakePosX[0] -= MATRIX_SIZE elif snakePosX[0] < MATRIX_MIN_VALUE: snakePosX[0] += MATRIX_SIZE if snakePosY[0] > MATRIX_MAX_VALUE: snakePosY[0] -= MATRIX_SIZE elif snakePosY[0] < MATRIX_MIN_VALUE: snakePosY[0] += MATRIX_SIZE # Spawn random food if generateRandomFoodFlag: generateRandomFoodFlag = False retryFlag = True while retryFlag: foodPosX = random.randint(0, 7) foodPosY = random.randint(0, 7) retryFlag = False for x, y in zip(snakePosX, snakePosY): if x == foodPosX and y == foodPosY: retryFlag = True break # Update matrix sense.clear() sense.set_pixel(foodPosX, foodPosY, RED) for x, y in zip(snakePosX, snakePosY): sense.set_pixel(x, y, GREEN) # Snake speed (game loop delay) sleep(snakeMovementDelay) # Blink the dead snake for loop in range (5): sense.clear() sense.set_pixel(foodPosX, foodPosY, RED) for x, y in zip(snakePosX, snakePosY): sense.set_pixel(x, y, RED) sleep(0.5) sense.clear() sense.set_pixel(foodPosX, foodPosY, RED) for x, y in zip(snakePosX, snakePosY): sense.set_pixel(x, y, GREEN) sleep(0.5) sense.clear() # Display score while score: sense.show_message("Score: {}".format(score), text_colour=YELLOW) # Press joystick middle button to play again for event in sense.stick.get_events(): if event.direction == "middle": score = 0 from: cytron.io
  23. We've had about 10 of these in use in meeting rooms and intervention spaces for over a year now. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006997234954.html Work fine with Miracast and the Win+K shortcut. Works with most android devices without an app just using the baked in 'cast' function but some devices without native cast need an app. Not tried it on iOS but works fine with Airplay on MacOS. There is a button push needed to move between cast modes so you can't just hide them up the back of the TV and forget about them. I have them stuck to the side or the bottom of the sreens with agressive sticky velcro with a label on the front to show where it is! I got a bulk deal and bought 15 and they were less than £2 each with a voucher. I also bought HDMI socket to plug extensions at the same time - these ones: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006873215403.html They do seem to take more power than they say on the box. They say a USB port with 500ma will be fine, but we found that plugged into the allegedly 500ma service port on the screen that they were unreliable - they powered on and displayed a home screen but often wouldn't connect, or worked for a bit and then flaked out. Plugging them into their own 2a USB mains adapter solved a lot of instability problems. One other thing to be aware of, half of them came with A-Micro USB cable, a few came without cables at all and 2 of them are USB-C power input not micro USB! They don't have great range is the only thing I would say - less than 10m, so you can't really wander around with your device.
  24. We've gone a bit more physical with my 9yo - standalone robot kit, robotic arm kit that we can then control with a scratch addon, Raspi with a sense hat, waveshare gamehat for raspi with Retropie, stripping down an old device from work to see all the components, build your own radio controlled boat out of plastic bottles kit etc.
  25. Is the device signed in to more than one account after a 'switch user' has been done? I've seen that message in that circumstance because Windows can't release files it needs because they're locked by another login?
