  1. First of sorry if this is in the wrong section. I had a 30GB Dynamically expanding volume that was causing me space issues. So i converted it to a "fixed" 60gb volume and the VM booted as expected. The volume is still 30GB, but in disk manager (on the VM) i can see the extra un-allocated 30GB space. I wanted to "expand" the partition of the c:, but i can't as its a "boot" volume. Any ideas? I wasn't expecting it to be so much of an issue. cheers all.
  2. You sooooooo just jinxed that!
  3. cool cheers guys\gals
  4. Does anybody use office x64 instead of x86? We're still using a 32bit build here (2013) and was thinking of making the jump to 64bit (when we go win10). We use SIMs as our MIS. Should i stay with 32bit? Any feedback will be appreciated. cheers
  5. Have you been able to reconfigure this so it fits in more with a schools IT asset needs? Would you be able to share a screenshot if you have please? I've had a look at the online demo but still unsure if it can be adapted to better fit our requirements. Struggling to get it working on Ubuntu, but happy to go hosted if it's suitable.
  6. We currently have 4 HP A5500-ei-24-sfp core switches. These each have 16 sfp 1Gb Fibre transceivers installed that connect to each of our edge switches. (1gb from each core to each edge, so every edge is connected to every core switch 4 x 1gb via sfp fibre) We're doing a mid life update on these, so that we can connect our hyper-v cluster\replica via 10gb at the core. (the switches have an expansion bay at the rear to add up to 2x 10gb sfp+ modules to each switch, so 8 in total) However moving forwards (road mapping), a core and edge refresh is on the cards. (edge switches are hp v1910 with 4 x 1gb uplinks) At the moment it kinda feels it's overkill going 10gb uplink from the edges. My plan would be to reduce the number of core switches from 4 to 2 (24 port to 48 port) and have each edge connected as 2 x 10gb sfp+ as opposed to 4 x 1gb sfp. I'm not very good a CLi so browser based config would be best. I had to enable this feature on our current switches. Stacking, lacp, and 48x 10gb sfp+ ports would be needed. Dual PSU. Just feeling i'm "over engineering" this, but at the same time need it to be future proof. Do any of you guys have edge switches that uplink to the core via 10gb agg links? Which edge and core switches are you using? Only one i've seen so far is the dell n series. Not sure if thats cli or browser based config. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Here's a simplified network diagram of our core\edge setup;

  8. My plan is to set them up totally standalone. However i'm not sure if these laptops qualify as school owned devices and as such can use our office ees agreement. (kms activation would be another issue here). Microsoft office is normally provided as a key only and a download is required. However..... you need a MS account to do that. I can't create a new MS account for the end user and accept the license on their behalf...... and i certainly don't want their username and password for any existing personal accounts!
  9. How do you guys manage pupil premium laptops? Specifically, initial setups that include standalone MS office installs and "servicing" if a software issue rears its head. I'm more concerned about the data that could be on this laptop once it's left the premises. Not doubt it's been used by all their parent\guardians\friends (i'm assuming of course). If i nuke it because it has a virus etc, should i be responsible for backing it's data up first? My mind set is, "here's your (sealed) laptop (from PC Planet) and a download only version of office, and a download version of antivirus version X, have fun"...... If there are any hardware issues, should it come back to us or pc planet? should we be correcting software issues created by the user..... or should they have to take it too a 3rd party repairer? I suppose what i'm asking is; are we (the schools tech team (ME) ) responsible for the installation and maintenance of off site, off domain unrestricted use laptops from pupil premium? Just curious. Cheers
  10. And that disaster recovery plan top work as i've said before!
  11. yes there is, we use this function to allow only school based google accounts. It needs HTTPS decrypt and scan enabled to work.
  12. Thanks for the reply, However that would have a huge knock on effect with the reset of the google services we use. its the domain explicitly used for chromeos logins i need. That being said the link you provided is one i didn't find, so i'll have a read of that. cheers
  13. Ok so i've enabled decrypt and scan on our Student WIFI (chromebooks) and have deployed the https cert from the utm (that all works fine). The issue i'm having is that when you start the chromebooks you should get a "enter your email address and password" to sign in screen. Since enabling https scanning i've had exclude "accounts.google.com" from https scanning which gets me a step closer to the Google login page......however.... Once i enter valid account details, i just get a spinning screen....... If i disable https scanning it works fine. (this isn't an option). And i can't exclude the google.com domain from https as we block personal gmail accounts and certain file extensions from google drive. (as well as blocking Google sites but allowing our own official google site page). I've looked on the utm logs for any blocks on web filter\intrusion prevention against the chromebook ip with no luck. Guess i'm asking if anybody knows which urls and domain chromebooks use to login. So i can exclude them from https scanning assuming there's no knock on effect. Googling i have only found "accounts.google.com", but im obviously missing something. At the moment i've made fort out of 80 chromebooks....which is kinda cool.... Thanks in advance for any help or info anybody has.
  14. Is there a page that you know if the lists some of this wizardry? Cheers
  15. I forgot how painful it was to configure Windows 7 GPOs in it's early days. After finally updating the servers and AD to be able to cater for 2016\10, i've sat down to have a look at configuring some GPOs for Windows 10. I added the 1607 templates into our central store, created a fresh 1607 (EDU) install from an ISO and dropped it into a test OU that has our current "test" Win7 gpos assigned. Logged in as a student and was surprised how much our current 7 policies lock it down. The issues i'm having however are with features that weren't around when we configured Windows 7 GPOs the first time around. I seem to be unable to "lock down" or disable areas of the ribbon in the file explorer for example. Do we have a Windows 10 Gotchas/Tips/FYI (like the older one) anywhere? cheers
  16. I couldn't make it this year Just wanted to know if anybody had a chat with the reps there. Future developments like chromebooks\android implementation in v8 or even v9. I love the product, but i fear i'm going to have to move to a competitor with this functionality. I've submitted this as a feature request. (you have to be a member to view) https://www.abtutor.com/suggestion/30/show cheers in advance.
  17. Ok i'm confused here.... nobody is wearing glasses of any kind and it's a very bright room.... after effects rights? EDIT:just seen the link
  18. I've upgraded our hyper-v replica and dcs to 2016 in prep for 10. So far all ok (except the not updating via wsus issue which is now resolved)
  19. Awesome articles from Microsoft here: Fault Tolerance: https://technet.microsoft.com/windows-server-docs/storage/storage-spaces/storage-spaces-fault-tolerance Understanding Cache: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/storage/storage-spaces/understand-the-cache How it stores your data: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2016/11/21/deep-dive-pool-in-spaces-direct/ Storage spaces storage calculator: Storage Spaces Direct Calculator
  20. from what i understand, only from a storage standpoint.
  21. Server 2016?... Storage replica.
  22. We'll be looking at recon dell 730XDs with 24 front 2.5" and two rear mounted 2.5" for the server OS also S2d this might be an issue with this server... unless a firmware update resolves it. Even when set to Jbod, it fails the s2d compatibility test. However the thread below says there's a "workaround" http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19660614
  23. Is this in Ad under "Delegation"? I thought it might have been a Kerberos issues as i had somethings missing. However i'm still having the issue. trying "Use any auth protocol" also doesn't work. thanks for the reply.
  24. Did you manage to get this working? I'm seeing afew live migration issues on server 2016 pop up online. I've also got this issue after updating. Just trying something else now, hope it works.
  25. Hi Fez, I have a question if that ok. Are you using any ssd as cache disk for the s2d or are they all mechanical? I was under the impression that at least two cache drives (ssd) were needed for a s2d volume. cheers
