Hello all, Apart from the tech side of things I know little about how to use SIMS but wonder if it can be used to my benefit. My school is a great place to be however communication is just rubbish to the point where I get random people turning up, claiming to be the new teacher of something where I have not been told. Anyway I wonder if there is a report I can create which can tell me about new members staff and students who are entered into SIMS. Maybe a new since "X" or something? Any help would be so welcome as my day would just become so much easier if I knew just how many laptops I need in general. Thank you all

got a couple of offices next to my server room. One more as the face of the department with 1 tech in to do most the student walk ins and the other with me and my more techy tech in to work on projects. If it wasn't for the way I don't think sod all would get done if I wasn't there to moan about it I would ask to move to a little office miles away from other people.

We use Creo and have made an msi using Advanced Installer which talks back to the server. I remember it was a pain in the arse to do due to the size of the software so every mistake I had to revert and rerun the repackager. Anyway I seem to remember it took them ages to send the software through to me after my teacher sorted the course out.

I love my Dell stuff as the support I have received is just amazing however I have had quotes for the Hitachi stuff in the past and although it comes out more expensive I have been impressed with the promises it makes like apparently the SANS can email faults to its base so the engineer turns up with no involvement from you. Cant say it works that well in real life but that's what the people who tried to sell it to me claimed.

we just use the basic tools from the apple server app. A year ago I was happy to have just got it deploying a non-customised image but I have an apple wiz kid on staff now who has created an almost ZT deployment using it.

I would recommend uninstalling any AV you have on the server as that can cause issues. Also silly as it sounds maybe run the disk clean-up utility. Anyway for reasons best not to get me started on (grrrr SLG) I had to do an in place upgrade of my SIMS server from 2008 to 2012 using VMWare. I am lucky as I had space on my side so was able to create a clone of the VM, upgrade it off the network, switch the old one off and new one on. To be fair it worked bloody well and the server to this day is still ticking along perfectly.

lol I inherited a moodle when I started 3 years ago and made it perfectly clear I think I have never touched one before and feel it needs replacing with a different and modern solution so its still sitting there untouched by tech support. I guess its about 1.6 but to be honest I just hope the thing dies as I don't believe most staff use it anyway.

its annoying. The last update which went out stopped us being able to set which domains can log in. Sadly I find Chromebooks just work so well so if these cant be trusted I don't know what can.

thing is I set mine to not deploy as the last update bricked something else and it still pushes out! This is typical Google, "what there is a place outside of the USA?".

i found there was something in my filtering blocking a google service. Worst case thought the tethering system does seem to work if you need to get around it quickly.

if it makes you feel better I just pay a local tech company to sort out my certs. They charge a little on top of each one to just make it go away. Life is to short to be dicking about with things like certs.

DNS setup on a windows server. From there just right click away and set target permissions.

I suggest decent Windows based hardware (i5 min if you can afford it) or iPads for all but backed up with a great virtual remote apps system if you need SIMS or some windows software.

On your task sequence click on the OS info tab followed by "Edit Unattended.xml" (if you never done this before the first time can take a while). Now under answer file navigate to 7 oobesystem, amd64_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup_netral, display and in the horizontal and vertical resolutions put either a 1 to set it to its default largest settings (that's what I use here) or your desired resolution. Make sure you save the answer file afterwards. Not sure if you need to update the deployment after this. Don't think so but if it does not work then you know why.

I am 97.4%(ish) sure if you change the X and Y resolution to =1, it will set it to the max it finds.

I did not in the end. I found that they are just not made because in case of an emergency such as power outage or worse you would have a site wide black out of communications. At least radios would still work in this situation which makes scene I guess.

Sorry that I don't have an answer for you but that happens to me too. I was working on printer deployment anyway and worked out a crazy new way of deploying them. Add to that to a user policy which deletes every network printer and bob's your uncle, the problem stopped happening.

also creo demands write access to system 32 and its own directory in program files. Would love to meet the people who make this software and ask them what they were thinking.

I got one at home. Its great (silly as it sounds, two full sized browsers on screen at once is quite useful. However back to your OP... See if you can squeeze a surface pro 2 as the price is bound to drop. Either that or big monitors for your IT room (3x 27" screens here)

I believe you want the following in group policy... Computer configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/File System From there you can make security policies for certain folders and is useful if your software requires user access to a certain folder. I have it with some DT software called Creo where it simply wont work if it cant access a small folder in C! (if it asks you to make a default policy do so as it is just a basic template).

sometimes (about twice a year on average) we come in to Youtube Education being bricked. Lucky for me we get our Lightspeed filtering through the local council so it is their problem to sort out. I just sit back, drink coffee and relax.
