As you have gone through the process of running cables and purchasing a PoE switch have you considered getting some Unifi access points. They do some in wall access points from around £80 pound each and even have Ethernet ports built in and look pretty cool, I've never used these type myself but have been running a couple of Unifi UAP-AC-PROs at home for around 3 years now. So you could disable the WiFi on the BT Router and use the Unifi instead. The other option is to use an extender as as previously mentioned but it just seems a waste to me after the effort you already put in.

I'm guessing that you have services/roles on the 2003 box as is the reason why you have not migrated across to a new server yet. If it is just hosting shares these can quite easily be moved to be honest, I've done this in the past at a college with thousands of users with out too much difficulty. If it is user home folders the AD object can be modified on mass within Active Directory Users and Computers. The only slight issue you may have doing this way is if user home folders are individually/hidden shared, you may need to script that.

Ignore that stupid yellow exclamation mark and just make sure users have assess to shared drives, internet and email etc. It is just a service that runs in the background and tries to establish connectivity with certain external servers.

I have 5 SamSung SM863 SATA SSDs in my DS1517+ at home with a 10Gb dedicated connection to my desktop, to be honest I have never tried editing videos directly from that as I treat it as a fast backup only for the videos and raw footage, NFS storage for a few VMs and NAS storage. If you had multiple editors needing access there may be a valid reason but to be honest I'd just copy the video files to local SSDs for editing as you intend to do :-) Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel might be worth a look as he does much on the video editing storage side of things :-)

Any + model with 5bays minimum would be my choice. When you say Videos, is this going to be just storage i.e. no editing from the NAS? Always used SHR for a plain old NAS I don't think it should not matter SHR gives you some flexibility https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/Storage/What_is_Synology_Hybrid_RAID_SHR I have before now easily upgraded an SHR by swapping disks for higher capacity one by one. Saves having to move the data off then back on again. I'd still recommend a backup of the data if it cannot easily be sourced again however.

+1 for Synology. Will give you some good features including MFA, RAID, easily expandable, Active Directory authentication etc. plus a whole load of extra possibilities. I have 2 at home now and cannot fault them.

Seems to be common place for VOIP providers to use this sort of setup. It does mean that you do not have to worry about setting up DHCP options i.e. TFTP .

Keep the VOIP vlan as layer 2 to their router. I.e. just present to their router as either untagged or tagged on the core switch that connects to it and do not have an IP address on your core.

In 2010 I pushed out Live@EDU at the secondary school I worked, replacing RM Easymail. Roll on a few years and then pushed out O365 at a college, I think the drive for O365 at the time was that we had exchange and it just made sense as had built many PowerShell scripts for account creation. Home drive is different from redirection, I've worked in orgs where nothing was re-directed. Redirection is simply re-directing Pictures, Documents etc to an alternative location, that normally being a home drive. You can have a home drive without any re-direction, it does not defeat the purpose. Personally I'm not a fan of roaming profiles since RM experiences many years back i.e. CC3 but have had better results from folder redirection.

You should not need to do any config on the phone if things are setup correctly which is not too hard to do. Have you configured voice vlan on the switch, does the switch support lldp-med? Even at home I have set it up so I can plug a VOIP phone in with default settings and it does not need any manual config of the phone at all. I had to put some settings in on the DHCP server options on the dhcp scope, think they were tftp but might differ in your setup, at work we use option 43 for our mitel setup. Btt we still need to make sure the vlan we use for phones is enabled for voice and tagged for the voice vlan but that is all we have to do along with the DHCP options when creating new vlans used for voip.

Whilst in Campus/University type networks it would be beneficial to move layer3 more to the edge switch I would keep layer 3 at the core in smaller orgs. A couple of HP or other switches that could be stacked for resilience would be my choice in secondary/college sized org. Each edge switch or top of stack switch having a trunk/LAG link to each member of the stack giving resilience/load balancing with out the need for complicated spanning tree setups. In your case, if you are replacing the layer 3 switches you will need to move the Intervlan routing of the vlans to the core, are they all static routes on your core to your satellite L3 switches or dynamic routing protocols?

I never done Item level targeting for deploying printers. I did have a lot of success with Windows 7 using Group Policy Preferences. Created a group policy assigned to a room OU (i.e. Desktop OU), this had loopback processing mode to set merge and in the user preferences created a shared printer. This worked extremely well.

To be honest, but why does that matter, the machine belongs to the organisation not the user For me dealing with the issues caused by a member accidently naming a PC in conflict with another PC on site is far more aggro. And you can always use BG-Info to give the users the info they need on the desktop i.e. PC name, IP address etc. that is what I have done in the past 3 school environments I have worked in.

If you are trying to backup VMs on a Hyper Visor then I don't think there is any better than Veeam. There may well be cheaper but none better in my opinion. I upgraded previous employment from 6.1 to 9.5 in the time I was there and had experience with restoring AD accounts the old fashioned way of a Virtual lab with the VM isolated. Are there any other backup solutions that allow you to test your backups in the same way as Veeam i.e. spin up the VM and test by pinging, smtp, etc?

Can you not use a cert from a CA signing authority and then all you need to make sure is that the root certificate from that authority is in the users devices cert store. These root certs generally last a whole lot longer. We replaced our Radius appliance last year and this is the what we did but I am no expert on certs.
