  1. I think if ex army types really wanted to work in schools they'd be doing teacher training. I think we need tougher punishments and less PC rubbish. However I think a lot of the problems stem from an increasing number of students being brought up by parents who are completly incapable of bringing them up properly. Particularly those who can't say no to their children.
  2. I've got a clean VM.
  3. I'm a bit stuck with WininstallLE. I'm trying to write a package from scratch, very simple, two reg entries and one file and I can't do either. I can add the file to the MSI but I can't work out how to set the target directory. Secondly when I look at the registry section and it shows the four HKEY doofers. How do I add keys further down the tree. If I use add key to recreate all the levels of the tree and get permissions errors when I try and run the MSI. I need to add one key to an existing tree.
  4. It's all Chrysler's fault.
  5. Very easy, just google for TFTP32. Just bare in mind it's got a built in DHCP server, which is enabled by default.
  6. We use terminal services, works fine. I actualy use a it a fair bit because I havn't got round to installing sims on my workstation.
  7. We've got loads, they're really good. Just set them up and forget about them. I havn't even had to reset one in the last year.
  8. One tip, after you've uploaded the gallery content to a folder on the server make it read only (even for administrators). Other wise you'll find your clipart will disappear if you uninstall Smartboard on a workstation.
  9. That's quite impressive.
  10. Another vote for offline password editor here. It's on Ultimate Boot disk.
  11. The chances are if you've got no network connection the script isn't even running so adding a line to detect the presence of a network will be pointless. I think there's a setting in group policy to adjust the length of the time out.
  12. Maybe the dissident wing of Edugeek is already planning a simultaneous strike on Becta, Edd Balls and RM. Viva la revolution.
  13. Read the documentation for NetBootDisk, it mentions that it can't access shares on 2003 servers (and I think 2000) without making adjustments. Or make a boot CD with ghost.exe on it.
  14. You need to add ghost.exe, sadly there isn't room on the disk. You have a few options. 1. Set up an Linux sever that'll host ghost.exe which you can connect to from netboot disk. You might also be able to adjust your severs so you can connect. 2. Burn net boot disk to a bootable CD and then add ghost.exe. This means o have to enable CDROM support in netbootisk. 3. Create a 2.88 floppy image with netboot disk and ghost. Burn this image to a bootable CD rom. This has two advantages, one you can place ghost.exe in the directory that gets automaticaly coppied to the NBD ram drive and two you don't have enable CD ROM support. This is the option I took, I can't remeber exactly how I did it and I'm not back in the office till Thursday. If this thread isn't resolved by then I'll have a look. 4. Put ghost.exe on a second disk, swap disks once NBD has loaded. 5. If you're uisng ghost 8 or later ignore NBD and use BartPE. 6. PXE Do you know how to use a command prompt?

    BSF ?

Have you looked here yet? EDIT: Ignore, the post has been moved.
  16. It could be worse, we've got some Digimate TFTs. Just RMAed my 13th out of 21 today and they're less then 6 months old.

    More BSF Delays

Good call, especialy since we probably won't have labour in 'charge' after the next election.
  18. Gotta love education, in any other industry who ever used the equipment would be responsible for switching it off. I use PSSHUTDOWN, works very well. We share a DT block with another school, who do turn off their ring mains at night. Probably something to do with the old DT block converting it's self into a smoldering mess.
  19. Another option to consider might be running a virtual server with Linux on it.
  20. I had a Linksys AP that was bloomin dangerous, I plugged it in and it started smoking.
  21. If your going to put the clipart on a server set the permissions to read only even for administrators. Otherwise if you uninstall it on one work station you can wipe the lot (oops).
  22. The worst think is when they relise how much it's costing them to run they'll probably ban anyone from using it with outsigned permission (in triplicate) from the head, net result headers will all head to the ICT suites when they need to print 100s of worksheets.
  23. Get some of those 5cm mini CDrs.
  24. I'm in Gloucestershire,
  25. Because of the unique way our network is setup I need to disable DHCP in Xubuntu. I'm finding if I set the DNS server manualy it's dumps the setting I give it and goes back to the one the DHCP server dishes out. Thanks
