Video Conferencing
K.C.Leblanc replied to K.C.Leblanc's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
Basicaly, Gave the VC doofer a static IP. Register with SEGfLVideo Conferencing Service an setup and endpoint. Bunged all the h323 settings from the SWGfL portal (in the usualy haphazard way that happens when two companies use different terminology). Eventaly it said it had registered with the gatekeeper, so I assumed it was either sorted or a portal to Zool had emerged in our old library and I needed to call Ghostbusters. I then setup a PC with netmeeting in the same fashion for some test calls. -
Hi, Just had a Video Conferencing system installed, it seems to be working with the SWGfL portal however I'm not gettig any joy out of the SWGfL loopback test. At the moment the only testing I can do is with netmeeting, which seems to work. I'd like to see how well it works conferencing with people who've got decent kit, any one up for a VC?

I'm happy with what I get, however I think it should go further. My beef is with the government and not my employers, who are ironically the government.

Just run the normal install with the /a switch. That should give you the MSI, there's a switch for Notebook only.

HP 6720s + Network ONLY in certain areas...
K.C.Leblanc replied to Nick_Parker's topic in Wireless Networks
Is the laptop gigabit (and the machine that worked in the staff room 100mb), gigabit uses all four pairs so it can show up cabling faults that aren't apparent when using 100mb. Might be worth setting the laptop to 100mb instead of auto negotiate, this can also help if you get compatibility issues between switches and a particular piece of kit. -
Yes, I do it quite often. I tend to have an autoit script that'll run a silent install and then do any of the icon moving, reg hacking, whatever I require. EDIT: This is what I use. I then use this script to run it on several machines. Just bunch the name of the PCs in between the bracket. The echo bits arn't required, I just use them to keep track of what I've done. EDIT EDIT: Just remember to use full UNC paths back to your sever in the autoit script or it won't work.

I use this method a fair bit. If you post up the AutoIT script and the other scripts you use to evoke it, I'll have a look.

Olympus make voice recorders, some of which I think record straight to MP3.

P4 3ghz dual core But slow at the moment because I've only got 1gb ram (VM ware is painful), I did have two but I needed some DDR2 in a hurry. Also got a P4 1.7 RM laptop, I've managed to womble some extra RAM and a good battery for it. It's not bad considering it's ancient and RM. EDIT: And a basic Nokia cell phone.

Smartboards here, considering the number of them we have they cause hardly any trouble. I've always felt Smart is the way to go unless you can forsee furniture being bounced off boards.

How much are you spending on a car? If it's under a grand you might be better off going 3rd party.
-
Try Bell Direct, Liverpool Victoria and Tesco. Might be worth getting a car mag (dare I say Max Power) and looking through some of the adds at the back. You might stumble across some less well known company who specialise in younger drivers.

How about any easy method for altering settings in any profile, not just the one for the current account. Yes I know you can use GPOs, but sometimes you get a one of situation where it's over kill. Oh and make it so when a user moves a shortcut from the start menu to their desktop it doesn't move from the all users profile to their own profile.

Is that a bad thing, putty is handy for configuring switches.

I know, but I expect it'll get very busy at the start of Sepember.I expect to see one of the following topics within 4 days. Laptops for Lunchtime Supervisors. How can an educated person accidentally put a laptop in the oven While I'm at it, shall I shove a broom up my #######.

Get a Canon Lide, great scanners. So small that students can just move them to whichever machine they're working on. Oh and the basic driver is a silent install.
