I got segmentation errors with rdesktop on a 2g eee bizarely only when connecting to a server 2003, it was fine when I connected to XP. The only way I could resolve it was going over to eeeXubuntu (which then had other issues). There is a front end for rdesktop (it does VNC aswell which is neat) but it doesn't fit on the eee's screen.

Unmanaged switchs should just work. What sort of switches are they (make and model)? Do they have uplink ports (is a it switchable or a separate port?)? Are you using a cross wired cable connect between them? Have you tried just connecting the new switch the old switch and then gradualy adding stuff, it's possible that some you're connected to is causing it to malfunction.

I did once encounder a student stupid enough to sit at a computer with a teacher's logon name entered and then ask what said teacher's wife's names was. At the same school but a few years later there was know minimum password age, so although teachers couldn't use there last 6 passwords some would just change them 6 times so they could have the old one.

When I was in industry I remember a good few morons being sent to stores for a 'Long Weight/Wait'. Luckily they were so short staffed when I started nothing like that happened.

If your connection requires a proxy server and you've used GPO to define the proxy address create a second OU without proxy settings. Works well here. NetOP has been replaced by a product called SchoolVue.

School where I used to work was closed for the day by the GMB strike after the caretaker said he wasn't prepared to cross a picket. I don't think we even had half a doven GMB members.

Simple really, if they think they're hard done by because they earn less then someone in the private sector, they should get out of teaching and get a private sector job.

The MS books are fine, althought there are other good ones. If you look on amazon their are loads of reveiws. Some MS books come with vouchers for money off exam fees. One problem with MS quals is that some of them are linked to particular OSs, once those OSs are out of date the qualification becomes worthless. It might be worth waiting for the Vista and Server 2008 courses to come online to give your MSCE a longer life span. It'll also be an excuse to learn new technology. Exams can be booked on Vue.com or prometric.com . Other certifications too look into a Cisco certifications (I.P. networks and routing) or CompTIA.

I've had trouble using network installs of escience with Java 6, was fine once I'd rolled back to 5.

Sorry to be so negative in my first post, the school were I used to work had some very vindictive staff. They also had no training policy so they had lots of staff who had 0 confidence in IT. We had 90 day password changes with your last 6 passwords not permitted. We however had no restricton on how often you could change your password. Net result was some teachers when asked to change their password would then change it 6 times so they could change it back to te one they had before.

Nope, I know if this carries on by the time I can afford a proper car they'll be illegal. I just think you can get something as good as a Prius for much less if your prepared to forego the gimicry. Or for the price of a Prius you can get some very nice cars.

He does know that the area where they mine the ores and minerals for the batteries in those things is now such barron waste land that Nasa use it to test moon buggies. Most people are expecting a Hybrid to last about 7 years, about half the life or a normal car. So basicaly the environmental impact of creating and disposing of it has to be considered to be twice that of a normal car. That's before we get onto the particular problems presented by the batteries. Then we have to consider that the car is built in japan and shipped in a smog belching ship half way round the world (oh and that nasty hole in the ground I mentioned is in the US, the the batteries have done a three quarter circuit of the earth). Slap him repeatedly until he sees sense and buys a sensible, simple, european car. If he really wants to buy into this carbon crap he should give up flying, or buying anything imported from outside europe. Cars are actualy one of the most enviromentaly forms of transport.

Bare in mind in a school if you make it too complicated you'll have two problems. A. No one will like you. B. A phenomial number of people won't take passwords seriousely. You'll get loads writen down or told to all an sundry. Make sure you have SLT on side and make sure they're aware of the potential pit falls.
