Please do frazer - the only reason me and my mate lost the enjoyment online was because of the cheaters, but all the official servers are being turned into the XWIS servers [links on my mirrir site above] or something like that so once again, you'll be able to chat on the online section, and so on. We stopped playing it ages ago....then started playing it again and were on it solidly for a good 3 months, mainly local lan against the cpu using the mods etc, but then stopped again [as we were having dreams of C&C lol] But with the online side of things being sorted out, maybe we'll be back. I will at any rate If u luv the game but got bored of it, give the mods a blast - they are the cause of many months of continual play again lol [sound like a advert dont i? lol] Cheers N.

You have time for novelty features like that? lol Have a look here and throughout the site - they are more switched on to this sorta thing than me lol ...tho I'd imagine it would be modifying resource files to do it, which of course, is against the EULA of XP.....*whistles to himself*....so I personally wouldnt bother lol N.

me too At least, I will do when I allow RDP in the firewall properly lol VNC is fine tho anyhow N.

Hi all Just wondering if any of you good people still enjoy a blast on C&C at all? For those that are interested, look up my mirror page for the C-Gen C&C community of modders [notice the rather familiar outlay *winks at his own sig*] at: http://www.tarquel.net/cgen/ Think I'm tarquel69 [dont laugh now lol] on C&C:RA2 or C&C:YR - its been a while, and i keep forgetting my password and/or handle lol Get me on MSN / xfire first as i dont play it often at the moment but with some decent non-cheating players, it should a good laugh again Looking forward to this: http://www.eagames.com/official/cc/generals/us/home.jsp - C&C: The First Decade [pack of 12!! titles and bonus DVD] Bit of a cash in but theres a good few i havent got - odd considering how much of a fan i am lol - and they are reworking them all alledgedly - the installs and stuff i think, but also for XP compatibility. Hopefully they'll ditch the IPX part for lan games and make them all IP-friendly like C&C:Generals is hehe Nath

lol @ Geoff ;) Also Jane, if the actual memory modules have just been added to the server, then you might want to check them too just wanted to add that. Is there anything in the Event Log Viewer indicating anything to why it froze etc? Cheers and please let us know how you get on N.

You have to jump through a lot of hoops with MS Tech Support though. Firstly unless you have a support contract with them directly they will insist on having your credit card details upfront before they even talk to you. Secondly its up to the support agent to determine if the problem is their fault and is fixed by a hotfix. If it is then yes you'll get your $50 back. Unfortunatly not all Support Agents are created equal. Unless they've started cracking down on it, i've never had a problem in getting them in the past, but I always explain the problem straight after saying who i am. They never insisted anything lol Reading the last bit of your quote, then maybe they have changed it then Typical lol

and *back on topic* [ ;)]...... Although not new and fragerant [or being able to spell either], I'd like to introduce myself too: I'm ...er.... "IT dogsbody" in the good old way of "do this... do that... we dont need external companies to do it - you are the resident genius so you can do it all" type job description [maybe thats what it should be hehe] I have a ICT co-ordinator above me who is also the deputy head and [bless him] got thrown into the IT role many moons back so I cant blame him from knowing little on IT [but not knowing what a IP address is was hilariously amusing lol]. As i'm only classed as ICT Support Officer [i think - on some things it still says IT Technician] I do 100% more than my job is lol network managing, setting up, yada yada yada.... We havent had a external company do anything IT-wise in years - muggins has [more-or-less] done the lot I'm in the heart of wales [yes, countries do have hearts ok? lol] - u can see my sig/location for whereabouts - and have been in this job for 8 years it must be - its been so long that i forget lol Side projects and spare time - when not talking to mark about work on msn lol - would be application repackaging, website stuff, repairing/building/condemning pc's outside of work, various development type things, [online] gaming,....and oh yes, watching films with my g/f / partner and going out on the 'lash' [when i can be bothered lol] Did i mention moderating boards on edugeek? hehe and being active in a few other forums too *Phew* well thats my life for you all on a silver platter lol Cheers N.

For us, theshirt hit the nail on the head with what he said, but i for one wud embrace linux/opensource in the backend of thing like sql/webserver's - its just having the time to learn thats the problem. Although everything is running quite nicely so far so i can work on it soon [as a s start, gonna have a dual boot - xp & linux - machine at home and get to work learning it ] Cheers, N.

When you say change management system...um....what do you mean exactly? *sorry if im thick lol* Post again with more details please Nath

Regarding the hotfix: You should get the hotfix no problem as you want it because of a problem with their OS, NOT a problem of how to do something. Remember to point this out when ringing if they give you stick. Cheers N.

I quote from your link: That doesn't mean "Windows Messenger" of course, as that isnt a service lol but the "Messenger" service within Windows XP SP2 is disabled by default, so take a look at the service list first to make sure that it is running. I've just noticed mine is disabled too [annoyingy] - i wonder, can services be enabled/disabled via GP anyone?? Cheers N.

Hope you pointed out to him that although its a great idea - the MS School's Agreement thing - its just not practical with smaller/underfunded [iT budget-wise ] schools, as alot of us have old hardware that our SMT's wont let us chuck because its not xp-able [as it still works] and that we just cant afford a yearly cost each year - even if we do have the latest version of the OS or server OS etc. Sorry - that was a long point lol If you speak to him again, suggest that he [or someone else in the same team] joins in on a edugeek conferance next year [preferably one that I'm allowed to go to lol] and gives us a Q&A session or something so we can explain why its just not feasiable for alot of us ....unless they change it. And if he wouldnt mind bringing us a copy of the Vista beta each out of goodwill too ;) Cheers N.

thats how i have it on the old 98 policy setup [just out of interest] - deny all except.... but like Paul [kingswood] says, the shit will hit the fan pretty quick like that without testing it first. I havent tried this with XP & the AD / GP system but i imagine the effect is the same. Those damn hp scaner drivers were a big prob on 98 - so many dependant exe's to add to the exclusion list that it was really difficult, though it should be easier in the GP setup What Paul decribes sounds good although I havent had to use software retension yet tho oddly - think i've adjusted some oher settings lol Cheers N.

lol - no i was serious but i was just wondering if you run it from the pen drive on other machines? If so and it works then I assume it doesnt require anything other than the directory you install it to i.e. it doesnt install anything to the windows directory or make registry changes/additions? Thats all i was wondering hehe N.

not seen this yet with my setup. lol geoff - u saying it was the image or the switch ....or both? tosca925 - jpg or bmp? if bmp, then try it as a jpg [or vice versa ] Try saving with lower settings if jpg to reduce the file size - not sure what size mine is Regards N.
