  1. Try "escaping" it with a ^ in front of it... if not, have a google about escaping in batch files. I cant remember the batch file in question i escaped some symbols or i'd dig it out and see what i did. Here's something that may help explain more: http://www.robvanderwoude.com/escapechars.html
  2. could you not get the linux servers to sync with the source that you use for the win2k3 time server? [i know its not quite the answer but its a idea lol] Nath
  3. Should be same price I'd have thought depending on the LEA license... They may have changed the terminology since the last time i checked but used to be a Windows Professional OS license [was a while since I looked tho ]. You should be able to buy the vista licenses and use XP if you need to if you are not ready to roll out Vista remember. Nath.
  4. Probablly using some VLAN jiggery pokery it would be...we use vlans for that reason [well... one of them... well, it works out handy as a result lol]. Nath.
  5. moved here as its a site suggestion
  6. Add me good sir... thats two people for a online blast on COD4 lol
  7. How do u find the time Geoff? lol
  8. Thanks Alex... Added you Now... have you got any games i have? lol Nath
  9. I've got that... I really should carry on with that game [especially as i'm borrowing it lol] ...and with Zelda too Nath
  10. Looks pretty good... except for: I cant justify two monthly fees at the same time lol as i already play a MMORPG [FF Online]. Its what puts me off playing multiple games like this because a) dont have the time to play one let alone more than one lol and b) start adding up those £8.99 a month kinda prices and it becomes alot a month. If it was something like £3 a month then i'd do it.... *ends rant on subscription based MMORPG's lol* Nath
  11. Whoops... forgot about you Geoff My Wii number is: 4163 3553 1815 6872 and yes Tony, i never managed to register on the Nintendo Club site or get it to work at all. Have even emailed them about it ages ago, so if u've had any joy with that, let me know as i would like to sign up etc. Cheers Nath
  12. Updated my post and added a poll too! Anyone else out there?

There are settings in Group Policy other than using manditory profiles that wont save changes to the desktop when you log off etc. Cant remember exactly what or where they are but you should find them with a good route through the settings over a looong coffee.
  14. Solved - hopefully... resorted to renaming the TS profile dir and recreating from scratch [by getting the user to logon to *the TS server where the user had problems with IE*]. Copied the desktop shortcuts needed and favourites back to the new profile [My Docs set via GP to one of our NAS storage boxes so that needs no setup] and configured Outlook and done. IE working fine - internal and external, even when logging in and out of the server. The load balancer assigns the same server all day [oddly] so hopefully, as there is no traces of any of his old profiles [that the system will use], if he gets assigned a different server tomorrow, it should all work fine. Perhaps the profile that was recreated last time [around Dec i think] was done properly or something. Hard to know but all working so thats good Thought I mention what i did in case anyone else has the same problem and searches the forum for it. Thanks for the thoughts guys... always welcome. Nath.
  15. Meant to mention that too... checked on both of the two servers that the user has a problem on and there was no cached copy of his profile there for it to cause a problem.... so odd isn't it. Good point Gecko... I'll take a look at the Event Viewer of the server when i get back from lunch just in case there is something logged when he tries, but the odd thing is why does normal internal websites work when external ones dont? Is that something that would particularly be logged in the Event Viewer I wonder. Nath.
  16. Hi gecko He told me that before that he's had his profile recreated recently so effectively, its the same thing - plus other users in his department/OU/room using the same servers have no problem with this, and I dont believe his AD user object would have anything different to the others. Thanks for the suggestion though, it may be worth a try if nothing else can be found. Profile creation is a pain here, and i've got some big jobs on so could do without that. If it came to it, i can force the system to loadbalance him to use the one server that works for him, but wont be much help if that server is down for any long period of time lol Havent had any luck googling this issue, or finding anything on the MS KB articles - but my searching skills are a bit pants most of the time so feel free to look if your inquisitive hehe Cheers Nath.
  17. I did think of that but doesnt quite tally, as other users are fine, and although IE's proxy [and other] settings are deployed via GP, I remember seeing previously that the GP settings is set per machine over the per user settings [sorry... cant remember the setting offhand]. I've checked the user settings i.e. by looking at the IE properties and the proxy is all set in there and active so cant understand whats happening. [digress]hi again geoff - been a while - been so busy "learning the ropes" of this place too[/digress] Any other thoughts?
  18. Hi all I have a user that when he logs onto one of our Terminal services servers, IE works fine with internal and external sites - as you'd expect. But then when he is logged onto another of the TS servers [of the same group of TS servers i.e. same build etc], internal websites work but external websites i.e. google etc dont work and eventually he gets a page cannot be displayed. The user, like the majority of the users, has a TS roaming profile, so if it works on one, it should work on all I would have thought but doesnt seem to be the case. He uses three TS servers, and only one [and always the same one] works fine for him, but the other two dont. Of course, this wouldn't be a huge problem except that the system load balances so he doesnt choose the server. Any thoughts welcome cheers [except for things like "rebuild the servers" and stuff like that - fixing is required not cheating ]. Nath.
  19. wow!!! Comparing R2 to the equiv of Win ME... now that really is the height of blasphemy. R2 is effectively a addon to Server 2003, meaning you have little choice but to install it after 2003 is already installed. It adds several useful features and didnt [as far as i recall] cause any problems on the system when I upgraded it. I installed R2 sometime after Srv 2003 SP1 and before SP2, so cannot say about how happy [or not] it is when installing on top of SP2. Regards Nath.
  20. And if that doesnt work for you [tho i think it should], you could try removing SP2, installing R2, then putting SP2 back on again Nath.
  21. Not to play devils advocate, but watch out for the "its not bilingual" comments you'll undoubtably recieve if you're planning on creating the school website. Head told me to remove the last one after a single letter of complaint about it not being bilingual, rather than tackling it with a normal respose of "well has the person who complained got the time to spend making it bilingual". Of course, if youre plannin something internal, then that doesnt matter. Was always my intention to make that server into some sort of internal webserver i.e. a helpdesk style of website - but good luck in getting the folks to "help themselves"
  22. Thanks man... Looks like just the job, as we are going to have a play at setting one up from scratch as a test. At least we'll get a feel for it then. Gonna PM you a question btw Ta Nath.
  23. you would geoff ;) I dont have that option. The system is already setup - meaning i cant go and set it up again from scratch to learn about that part. It would be handy to know it tho [but not essential - as you show]. Because of what they have planned for it, I feel it would be very unprofessional to just "wing" it when its going to be so largely implemented. And when things go wrong after its all implemented - its going to be far better to know more stuff having been shown it and trained on it, than not know where to start. This is a huge install of it - multi servers - and i just dont feel comfortable trying to maintain it without some sort of training on it [i'm not saying i'm not prepared to learn off my own back, because i am - and i have with other aspects, only that as we've already got the go ahead to find training thats appropriate, it makes little sense not doing so ] Nath.
  24. That one looks great!! Hell of a lot covered in 4 days though it seems :S How did you find it? Do you think its what me & my colleague is after? If it covers various setup tasks, but more on maintainance and troubleshooting of the whole citrix system, then its what we are after i'm thinking. Does it cover the Citrix AACS / Secure Access Gateway at all? As this will become a core component here I'm told. Cheers Nath.
  25. Hi all Having not used citrix at all really, me and a colegue are looking into citrix training as we have a system that's been put in, but without knowing much about it, i fear that something that is intended to be *very* intergrated is going to need alot of knowledge known - rather than just dabbling in it. Can anyone suggest a good citrix course to go on - we were looking at the presentation server one, but i have been told that its very easy to use etc. [whether its easy to use when certain things start breaking is my worry] Is there any training courses that deal not only with certain setup aspects to it, but also ones that help you gain good troubleshooting abilities when using it? I believe that the plan is to use it as *the* desktop as opposed to a normal TS with Thin Clients, etc....but as you can see, my knowledge on the subject is far from good. Anyone with any info please leave a post or PM... thanks Nath.
