I guess it depends. If the company just 'supplied and installed' and you have paid for the system, you now own it and if it is purely for the school's use then you are the only ones who need Admin access to the system. If you have some sort of maintenance/support contract whereby they need to deal with things, possibly on a remote basis and you are 'hands off' (just viewing recordings) it might be different. We are all aware what could happen if someone untrained suddenly gets admin access to systems like that.

Possibly because 'Live' video is not yet 'Live'...? You may only get the button to approve when the video starts... but if not it's too late then! I can't seem to find any more information on whether 'live' videos are filtered differently though. Maybe see if you can find a 'live' video and try?

Definitely something funky going on... We have our LGfL filtering and Google set to Strict restricted YouTube access, but with certain users able to approve. Although I can see the 'Set Reminder' landing page when logged in (and get a restricted page when not), there is also no button underneath for me to approve - because it says it is watchable in our domain...

This hasn't been referred to me as an issue here so I haven't paid it much attention, but I just looked at this and we see the same issue. I guess the thing is, it is practically impossible to be completely 'safe'. As discussed earlier there have been I'm sure, people wandering around in the full knowledge they have Covid and equally plenty of people who are spreading it unwittingly as they are asymptomatic (and not testing/wearing masks/keeping safe distance/washing hands). At its peak of over 200K infections per day (and this only being those that tested and reported), you can estimate a huge number were still being infected by those people, otherwise how do 200k people a day get infected (if everybody is taking precautions/testing and self-isolating)...? Because a lot of people weren't! I've read these figures (new infections) have to be treated as a very rough estimate in that it only represents those that have actually tested and reported (so plenty more are likely infected and by the same token reduced figures could just mean less people testing and reporting), meaning true infection figures can never be fully represented. I'm just trying to make the point that a lot of people have been spreading Covid anyway, even with testing, 'preventative' measures and laws. Yes, infections may well go up now the last of those are being removed (as those without even a modicum of common sense may well now feel they can go back 'down the pub'), but it is down to the individual concerned to determine how or if that will affect them. I'm lucky I am pretty much a hermit, I don't go shopping, I have no friends, I don't go out anywhere, don't go to concerts, don't go down the pub, I don't go on holidays or day trips, I don't go out to eat, I rarely visit family. At work, everybody knows not to come into the office and I won't be visiting classrooms with children in any time soon... Actually, this has nothing to do with the pandemic, I am just generally an introvert, with mild agoraphobia (oh, and I'm also a grumpy old git) and don't ever really feel the need to do those things so I haven't had to adjust my lifestyle at all (I've secretly been practising for this all my life - although I thought it would be a zombie apocalypse). .. So I am super low risk, right? Unfortunately, unless you are willing to go and live on a remote mountain/island and be completely secluded (I wish), there is no way to avoid what other people do (as in most other parts of life). The only thing you can do if at all possible, is reduce the risk, protect yourself however you choose and make the sacrifices of not seeing friends/family and not going out (unless absolutely necessary). I will continue to do so as it's actually my choice to live like that anyway, so I don't really get the whole getting back to 'normality' thing. My OH says "some people actually need to do 'normal' things and 'have a life' dear"... but I just choose to stay in (and in turn that protects my life - from Covid... as much as is reasonably possible, not from like a car accident, or a jet plane plane crashing into my house in the middle of the night apparently)... Yes, I thought it was that the legal requirement to isolate has been downgraded to just 'advice'. The trouble with advice, is it really will only be adhered to by those with the means and sense of propriety to do so... and they probably would have whether it was advice or a legal requirement. Most of those who don't, wouldn't have anyway regardless, because honestly though, did anyone ever get arrested for going outside when they had Covid? I remember some high profile cases of fines for breaking 'lockdown' as such, but none for breaking a 'quarantine'... and I'm guessing this also only applied to those who'd been told to isolate after taking an official PCR?

For various reasons I still have a few machines running LTSB (1607), for similar reasons I have .NET 3.5 on these machines. Updates are controlled by WSUS. Now, I'm aware that the mainstream support end date was Oct 12, 2021 - but I just recently noticed that the other Windows versions get CUs for .NET 3.5, 4.7.2 and 4.8. Looking through the WSUS updates, I have only ever had CUs for .NET 4.8 pulled down in WSUS for the 1607 machines. I have researched a little and found this on the Microsoft Update Catalog: 2022-02 Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.7.2 for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64 (KB5011329) https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb5011329 However, I have also found some articles that suggest this is just some sort of 'out of band' update, for a specific problem. So the question remains why am I not getting CUs for .NET 3.5 and 4.7.2 for LTSB/1607...? Maybe because .NET 3.5 isn't natively installed on a fresh copy of 1607, does this mean I will always have to manually search for these updates?

Are you sticking with 'shared iPads...? Thought the Mac caching server was recommended for that, but not much reason to if not... We have one setup left over from how we used to manage the iPads, it has AC2 on, but we don't use it and the 'caching' rarely gets used (only at iOS update times).

Well, I am having an absolute nightmare with this! Just after lunch on Friday, I found the lid had been delivered (it is the correct one - just dark grey). Now this didn't leave much time before the teachers left for the half-term, but I thought it would be possible to get it done. I removed the old lid removed all the screws from the plastic that had snapped off and took out the wi-fi, camera, screen, only to find the hinge covers are hiding two screws each side... This means pretty much taking the whole laptop apart! OK, this is a bit more work, but I still thought I could do it. So, undo the base enclosure a few more bits of plastic fall out, try undoing a couple of screw and they just turn without coming out... Eventually manage to get the wires out, the covers and hinges off and find 3 of the four are also sheared off from the plastic on the top cover... only being held on by the screw that goes through the bottom of the case. I had this sort of thing 15 years ago, why are they still designed like this!!! Well, OK so I am just going to have to get this part as well and I couldn't get it back to the teacher before the half-term.

Always handy to go around and make a list of any school 'site' equipment that is left on when not being used... I'm quite lucky I don't have this problem and I've made it quite clear the I.T. equipment is above his pay grade (and funnily enough mine too, but that's another story), he gets zero say in what happens to any of it. Do those WAPs just work as something like a Wi-Fi extender? Bit hard to get around the consumer terminology when searching, like WiFi Network Extender, Range Booster, Wi-Fi repeater, Wireless Range Extenders, some are what they say they are, some aren't... A while ago I had to get Wi-Fi to the end of the back garden and had an old Belkin 802.11g Wireless G Range Extender/Access Point - F5D7130uk, luckily I had a powerline adapter at the back of the house to plug in the ethernet, but it worked (just). There must be modern versions of this?

I once toyed with the idea of putting all the classroom devices on timers (speakers, projectors, visualisers, laptop trolleys etc.), but as above the risk of fire from the timers is probably greater, plus we're a small school so it only takes 10 minutes to walk through all the classrooms and turn everything like that off at the end of the day (how is that all dealt with at your site?). However for the OP, as mentioned, the out-of-hours server updates, remote access, off-site backups, off-site CCTV monitoring, component stress, means it's a no from me (except in some extreme circumstances). After a powercut once we found out that the last person to configure one of the WLC hadn't actually saved the config file... that was fun...

Are these all .exe. files or as in HP drivers SPXXXXX files that extract before they install? If so, run the .exe on a test machine and see if it extracts the .inf somewhere, copy that out and then cancel the install (it probably won't fully install anywhere if you don't have the hardware in the test machine anyway) Is it possible to find out the manufacturer of the chipset and see if you can find drivers that way instead of 'Lenovo' branded/packaged ones (they sometimes rewrite original manufacturer drivers, but more often don't).

Hi @garethedmondson, No worries, I've had a few other things to take my mind off it too. Honestly, for our small network and few devices I actually have no problem with WSUS and it works really well. I'm used to the interface and like the way I can control (hold, deploy or remove) updates and have quite a detailed view of what's happening. I just wondered if it was just going to be a case of configuring a couple of GPOs I might go for it. Just thought it would be good to remove another role from the server and also have updates still delivered when devices are off-site (as we have a couple of teachers off long-term - and what with isolating and such), but still have control over it.

No, I think they've removed the iPad from Lightspeed but the iPad still has the profile on it that 'maybe' won't allow them to reset/wipe it (also Lightspeed cannot reconnect to the iPad to configure it as it has 'forgotten' it). If that is the case, I'm surprised as to why the iPad isn't trying to reconnect back to Lightspeed though...
