I can only imagine that the Lightspeed option 'forget it' does exactly that, but only as far as the Lightspeed MDM is concerned, however... I don't think this removes any profiles on the iPad, so it is still configured the same as it was previously. Not that it's much help now but removing all the profiles on it first (from within Lightspeed) or creating a new 'Test' OU for it and moving it there might have been a better 'first step'. I don't think you even need Lightspeed to 'forget it' as you can just use Lightspeed to reconfigure it (I learnt this lesson from Sophos when deleting a client from the portal without getting the anti-tamper settings removed)... Unless, there may be other settings that have 'remove profile if it falls out of scope', you might be out of luck... but it might also 're-register' itself after a restart or something? Can you reset the iPad (remove all contents and settings) or DFU it (hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along before you do anything that drastic)...

I had a similar experience with a 'scheme of work', if you could call it that... A few of years ago SLT purchased a set of books from 'Rising Stars' called... 'Switched on ICT' and these apparently sat in the cupboard until somebody thought we should actually get on and do the 'computing curriculum'... Anyway, they thought they could just do everything in the books straight of the bat without consulting me... turns out they couldn't because the books reference a huge array of 'free' software that needs to be installed. When it finally landed on my desk I started checking through some of the various software titles and found that versions had changed and instructions weren't correct, they were no longer free, needed licenses, or required accounts or a ridiculous amount of setting-up before they would work properly (permissions etc.) and then some of them just wouldn't... We ended up with Purple Mash, which is just colour by numbers computing and web based, but at least the teachers don't need to think!

To be fair they've lasted 4 years and only one or two have minor damage, but yeah... cheap and plastic nastiness... anyway as you know, we are slowly replacing with Elitebooks...

No tea spills that are obvious (a few other dubious stains though)... I'll see if I can get some silicone to spray on the hinges. Out of warranty for us I'm afraid. Well, I've ordered the dark grey one now, we will see. It's a bad design no doubt as the lid is flimsy plastic anyway (in fact most of the laptop is) but it is a weak point for sure. Where the inserts on the lid that hold the screws for the hinges go are only a few mm deep. But that's how it's done I guess, I remember some Acer laptops over 10 years ago having the same problem. Yeah, if they open the lid on one side instead of the centre you can see the whole lid bend (and the hinges are quite strong). If one of the screws goes it just puts more pressure on the others and there’s not much strength in any of them! Shame I've got to take the whole thing apart to get the hinge cover off and get at the screws that are still sitting in the hinge...

I can only imagine that was because they are somehow set-up as shared...? The main point of the MDM (for us) was that it didn't need any of that AppleID shenanigans to deploy apps... we did it that way about 6 years ago (with a different AppleID shared between each set of 5 iPads... we had 60 iPads... that was fun)... Lightspeed should be able to do what you want IIRC as we used it many years ago before Meraki. As others have said: Back-up as stated would be a DR thing and not a back-up you could dip in and out of for certain files. Storage space will be limited if you're using Apple shared iPad to 1-2GB per user (and it will allocate it automatically for x users (10?) before anyone even logs in. Good shout on the Device/User licensing from @DaveAshworth, but also as @Brimstone mentions it may be the pre-installed apps! Edit: I see you are on the right track with most of these issues now!

Yeah thanks, I have seen that mentioned a few times now and did exactly that! The Windows 10 install had most of the basic ones, but I went through and directed it to update the driver for anything that showed no driver and on each individual device afterwards that had a generic one from the copy. Bit of a pain as manually installing via USB, is there an easier way to get all the drivers updated at once (without SCCM/MDT)?

Not sure I follow... As far as the iPad goes they do not log-in at all, just push the 'Home Button' or swipe the screen (can't remember) and they are in. Any 'work' they do would be in Google and they sign into the Google apps (not any of the 'native' iPad apps) or the browser I think (therefore everything is saved in their Google Drive).

We don't have KMS, everything is MAK. Any reason for virtualisation on? I always turn that off on anything that won't be a virtual host... are there some necessary CPU extensions it enables or something? The action keys part, is this the setting that changes the need to use the Fn button? Everything here is manual, no MDT or PXE booting needed, so I'll try to remember to disable USB booting after I've finished... USB booting.

This... We have 30 iPads in each year group, they are mostly glorified web browsing devices each with 300 ridiculous selfies/wobbly videos of the floor/ceiling and not much else. They don't really do any 'work' on them, but there are some 'educational' apps and they can use all the web based educational portals etc. We use Cisco Meraki, so can't help you with the specifics of the MDM side, but there is no log-in to the iPads (if they use Google they sign-in to that), but that's all.

Anyone got a way to contact someone who would actually know what I'm talking about and get a straight answer quickly? Going round in circles on the HP support site... I'm 99% certain it would be ok, even the product picture on the HP site for HP 250 G6 shows the dark grey version, but...

Had a laptop brought to me this morning with the teacher saying she can't open the lid... She said she opened it and closed it as normal all day yesterday, but as she closed it at the end of the day she heard a cracking sound. Sure enough I managed to prise it open and I'm thinking hinges (these HP 250 G6 are a bit 'plastic' feeling) and I start taking it apart and looking up hinges on the HP Parts Store. Of course it would be the side with the display and antenna cable... But on further investigation it appears that it is actually the plastic mounts with little metal inserts (?) that have sheared off from the lid. Now I'm all for saving money and I will admit the first thought was super glue, but I know it won't hold and will make any future repair that much more difficult. So I start searching for a new lid (what a pain with all the re-routing of antenna, webcam etc. - where's that super glue?) but came across a problem with ordering from the HP Parts Store. We have the silver version and for some reason that lid isn't available to order, however the dark grey one is. I have looked at other options like ebay and Amazon, but they don't seem to show the shielding on the pictures and the price isn't really any better... So the question is, as it is listed for the same model on the HP Parts Store... is it an exact fit (just dark grey)? No pictures on the store... Sure thanks, that's OK I'm alright with that, but there's nothing in them that will affect the laptop? I doubt I will ever need to restore to factory, but I'm just a bit wary of deleting something that will come back to bite me... Can you elaborate on that? Is there any specific way I have to change it to a new version key? I've read about PID.TXT... so it's read during install.

Just received our HP 255 G7 laptops... not locked down in any way shape or form that I can see. Updated the bios and I'm now going to put our Windows version on them (comes with education Pro 20H2). 2 (probably silly) questions so far: 1. It has been a really (really) long time since we've had a brand new laptop... I'm just deleting all these partitions, right? 2. What's the deal with Windows serial keys being embedded in the bios (told you it had been a long time). If I try to install our preferred version of Windows is it going to automatically change it to Education or have some issues with activating with the key I put in or something...?

Our teachers take the register directly in the SIMS client as they all have laptops with it installed (not iPads). I'm pretty sure I've heard them ask for menu options so they must take a dinner register at the same time probably as above.

IMHO as far as I'm concerned (at least with the current batch of devices), as soon as they are delivered to the school, they become the property of the school and therefore it can do what it likes with them! It's possible there are a few schools that have not necessarily used them for the intended purpose, or have repurposed them now 'the pandemic is over' and school's aren't allowed to close (so less remote learning). Interested to hear other opinions...

Very true... I initially took it as a 'slightly' comedic rip-off of Star Trek, but even by the end of the first series (with a few of the slightly gritty scenes) started to warm to some of the characters/story lines and realised it wasn't just a straight up parody.
