What's the difference, are there some features left out of the 'home' version? If not, I don't think Microsoft are that interested in a single user on a Mac though.... Is it for a business supplied laptop or something as your second post seemed to indicate a 'Home' setup?

I'm afraid I don't know if Papercut directly affects the driver settings, or if Server 2019 has changed anything in the print server role (although I doubt it). But essentially the settings look like this... Only on a server restart, they look like this... Just to check, these are Type 3 x 64 - User Mode drivers...? Are there any other drivers for these printers on the server, any other print queues using these printers? What do you have in the 'Sharing' tab in 'render print jobs on client computers'? Is 'bidirectional support' ticked in the Ports tab? In the 'Security' tab, do only the Administrators have 'manage this printer' permissions? Just another thought, is there any reason the other printers aren't set to 'print directly', or do you mean all the printers are and just these ones reset? I'm not sure why this would mean they don't print when it is reset... we have all our printers both to 'render on client' (Sharing tab) and 'print directly' (Advanced tab), but I wouldn't expect them not to print if I reset it to spool... EDIT: I used to have a problem with server settings changing, years and years ago (so I can't remember the exact issue or fix) but it was something to do with the fact we use Windows Job accounting from the driver and we had an issue with a printer install on a client. I manually installed it as Administrator, somehow the settings on the client changed the Job Accounting settings on the server, so every time they printed it stopped everyone else...

Ah, maybe I have a fundamental misunderstanding of LEA child funding then (not suprisingly)... I thought Pupil Premium was mentioned, but this is definitely a LAC 'thing' so I'm unsure if there is an overlap here. We don't have many LAC pupils or FSM and this is the first I've had to deal with providing a device for.

So, as far as I can work out... The 'Pupil Premium' is paid to us and 'absorbed' into our budget (we are an LEA school). Not only a head scratcher, but quite possibly way over my pay-grade to worry about (and I don't actually know why I am).

Not got Papercut or Server 2019 here, so I don't know if either of those things would affect this issue specifically, but possibly going to depend on the set-up, how the printers are deployed to clients (GPO/GPP/Manually installed drivers) if there are differences to how they and are set on the server, also driver version etc. If you can look on a client machine and the drivers on the server side-by-side as it were and go through the settings, you may find one is overriding the other. EDIT: Actually looking at your OP, do you mean the settings in the driver on the server are being reset or the settings at the client end?

Why wouldn't I believe China...? Unfortunately this is the internet and I can't tell if you're being serious or not... A lot depends on what you believe about the origins of the disease and who 'started' it and why. Also if you believe the Chinese population are largely subjugated or not and if you think the Chinese govt. are doing this 'for' their people or because it is better for other geo-political/economic reasons and for the appearance that they 'have it under control' and not wanting to appear weak (harking back to 'Sick Man of Asia' possibly). However, on the other hand a lot of Eastern countries are well-known for mask wearing in crowded places generally and being fairly obedient regarding regulations, this may well mean the spread is naturally curtailed via their normal/natural behaviours anyway. There is a well-known phenomenon amongst the population (UK is well known for it), mainly for knee-jerk reactions to things, but also to be quite contrary when it comes to 'civil liberties'... Just watching the news at times shows this inequality of behaviours as one interviewee eschews mask wearing whilst another says the restrictions aren't tough enough. The very 'average' Brit, who spends their time bemoaning the fact that they are being 'told what to do', also on their deathbed exclaims 'why didn't they tell us what to do, it was so confusing?!'... Pretty much those that believe it is safe to go out with no precautions now, because there aren't any restrictions and so it must be safe apparently to 'return to normal'... Like 'oh, I can go down the pub now, because they said I can' and those who can think for themselves and decide their own fate, are able to curtail their behaviours and can perceive not only their own risk factors, but those of others, will generally be OK. Not so much the 'oh great we don't need to do a test or fill in tiresome forms anymore, let's all go on holiday' brigade... It doesn't affect me luckily, but recently I have heard of a few cases where people have caught Covid and on further explanation reveal they 'only went for a coffee', or 'only went to the pub' or 'only went round a friends house'... I see the logic behind this, as in at what point is 'Pupil Premium' money given to a school used to buy a personal device for a child and if it is why give the money to the school. Therefore the presumption is that it will be a 'school device'? If not why doesn't the LEA just keep on supplying the laptops? This is essence what I am trying to get my head round... I don't want to get too caught up in the DfE device or lockdown scenario, as this is completely separate although it seems this device will be going home with the child, even though we do minimal online teaching/homework. Pupil Premium money is given to the school for 'assisting the education' of the child (in general?), then the LEA tell us that out of that money a laptop is to be provided. Now we 'provide' the device and this is where it starts to get murky... As usual everybody seems to have their own take on what it means... The Pupil Premium money is given to us, for us to decide what to do with it, but now (we are told) a portion of that money must be used to buy a laptop. I'm trying to drill down into at what point does 'provided' become 'responsible'..? But essentially you believe the money is more for the 'lease' of a device (managed by the school and to be used for 'education') that is returned to the school as it is the school's property (not owned by the child as the 'Pupil Premium money is actually given to the school for their education whilst at the school)? Sorry for the necro, but this is the first thread I found about the subject... And I'm in a massive quandary... I've done all the work and tested as much as I can and we now have (to the best of my ability and available resources) a fully locked down laptop available for home use by a (possibly vulnerable) child in my opinion. But I just asked the question (maybe I should have asked first, but we've never done this before) about the grey area of who owns the laptop (who is responsible for repairs etc.) and how responsible we are for its use (locking down and filtering etc.) and the answer was.... We don't know! This is a 'looked after child' (LAC) and the laptop is being provided with 'Pupil Premium' money, apparently it isn't a lockdown or work from home laptop as far as I can tell. Other 'looked after' children who came from a different school apparently have a laptop, an iPad and a Kindle... I'm not sure what exactly for, it doesn't appear to be for any kind of home working as such, but that they do need access to an 'online portal' of some sort. I've read this thread, but it raises as many questions and appears no less 'grey'... I wish there was a simple black & white answer/guidance to these things. Taking some of these answers though about licensing, it would mean even the Windows 10 OS version I have installed (after wiping the original bloated home version of course) is licensed to the school and isn't for 'personal' devices... The Office version, the Sophos AV, Malwarebytes, the Meraki SM, even joining to the Domain and enforcing restrictions (yes, even the wallpaper) on Windows and Chrome, refining the GPOs to be as 'home' friendly as I can, seems to have been a massive waste of time.... I don't even really understand why it is funded through the school, if the laptop doesn't actually have anything to do with the school (apart from the channel is set-up this way) and the fact that we will actually purchase a laptop with the money. Is 'Authenticated Users' the recommended way to share these days (haven't had to create a proper share for years), I was always told: Share Permissions = Everyone NTFS Permissions = '(specify users/groups here to allow access)' Anyway, the solution I found (and I've seen repeated in a few places, but only parrot fashion as it seems a limited set of circumstances produce the issue) is to change (on the SHARE) 'Everyone' permission from 'Full Control' to 'Modify'. Problem is this affected folder is in the shared staff drive (the actual root share), to change permissions on this would affect hundreds of folders and thousands of files on a prod server and I really don't want to mess that up... The other issue that I have is that this folder does not inherit permissions (I presume neither share or NTFS), because it is a 'sensitive' folder. SLT have full control along with admin, staff have read and then all sub folders inherit this and then have the staff member with full access on their own folder (however all folders without this specific permission are hidden with 'Access Control').

Got a bit bogged down with other things, simply adding it to the children's OU creates so many restrictions (including redirected folders!) that I will have to look at separating this user and laptop to their own OU. Looked at Sophos yesterday but didn't have time to dig any deeper... Anyway, I never really looked into the Sophos solution before and everybody is pretty much on the basic policy settings (which you can modify - but that affects everyone). The thing is I can't really tell how to only apply a modified policy and not a base setting (or if I apply both how to ensure the modified one takes precedence)...

Bit of a long shot here really (and not really much help to you - sorry)... Just looking at my iPhone DCIM folder and sorted by 'Modified' dates (see screenshot below) it appears a vast amount of phots/videos were modified at exactly the same date and time. I would expect this to therefore be some sort of internal iPhone function (because I certainly didn't 'modify' all those files at that time - possibly one or two, but not all of those), it's the only way I can think of explaining it. A bit like how some Anti-Virus modifies the NTUSER.DAT file of a user profile?

No, I think you're correct. The (visible) plane is actually on the ground. There is a plane out of shot (above casting a shadow). The sun I would therefore presume is pretty much overhead... ish. EDIT: Beaten to it (and actually the explanation by @6Foot2 makes even more sense).
