  1. I'm not quite sure what you mean here: RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled was a manual (GPP) reg entry for us. Not sure if it was necessary but I did it on both the server and the clients (WIN 10 clients, yes we have a 2012R2 print server but the change is to every edition I thought). 2. Unfortunately these are sent as .WAV files. I'll check if it's an option, but I imagine the phone system produces .WAV files natively and wouldn't be able to convert them into .mp3.
  3. Had a call from one of our reception staff complaining about this... Obviously we've been transitioning from I.E. 11 and now they open their email in Chrome (3rd party email provider but web based using 'outlook.office.com'). they are saying that previously voice mail messages that would be emailed to them (once opened in I.E. 11) would have an audio file which they just clicked on and it played (in Media Player I presume). Now when opening the email in Chrome, the attachment has only 2 options, 'Download or Save to OneDrive'... I'd rather not start messing around with extensions if possible, so is there a native way to get these to play from within an email in the Chrome browser?
  4. Can anyone tell me what the original OS was on these (I didn't even start one up, just wiped with our own image)?: HP 245 G8 - 14" - Athlon Silver 3050U - 4 GB RAM - 128 GB SSD I've looked on the Computacentre site and it says 'Operating System - Win 10 Pro 64-bit National Academic' (so, Windows 10 Education?)... Also, will it automagically activate?
  5. I do seem to remember an email... I also remember something about it being mentioned on here, but only in context of a URL change and to make sure that wasn't blocked by filtering/firewall. EDIT: I've found one from almost exactly A YEAR AGO (nothing about SOLUS itself needing an update or it won't work anymore)!!!! We hope you are well. We wanted to provide with some important information relating to an issue with SOLUS3. What is the current situation? As ESS continue to progress through the programme of separation activities from Capita, a significant amount of work is required in the rebranding workstream to remove all references to our former owner. This is a formal requirement with a completion deadline as defined in the terms and conditions of the sale agreement. The work involved impacts graphics in our software and documentation through to items such as web addresses and support URLs. One specific requirement is to change the service URL for our SOLUS3 platform. • The old URL was http://s3dl.capitasolus.co.uk • The new URL is http://s3dl.ess-solus.co.uk What is the impact for users of SOLUS3? The downloading of patches and updates via SOLUS3 may fail if the new URL is not approved for access via internet filtering systems. We are therefore recommending that customers add the new URL http://s3dl.ess-solus.co.uk to their whitelist. Once this has been added, downloads from SOLUS3 will continue to be processed as expected. Please accept our apologies for implementing this change to SOLUS3 with very little prior notification. We are reviewing our internal processes to ensure this does not happen in future.
  6. Thanks! Strange thing is, it hadn't stopped SOLUS downloading any updates (latest one is a SIMS patch dated 04/04/2022)... Anyway, bit confusing as the SOLUS database doesn't appear to have updated, it went through all the motions but tells me the database is still out of date (everything else seems to have updated OK)! If I try to run the SOLUS update from within SOLUS it gives me an error (below) if I try to run the manual installer again, it asks me if I want to uninstall it... EDIT: Well I thought I'd just go for it and try to start the SIMS updates and it seems to be pushing them out OK... EDIT 2: Even more confusing is that after doing the manual install the instructions suggest running the SOLUS update from within SOLUS, however I don't seem to be able to do that... Instructions For schools who are not on SOLUS 3.12.59 and are looking to update, please download the installers from the below link and install. Please run the database, service and UI installers in that order. After updating, please open SOLUS and go to Settings | SOLUS 3 | Updates and 'Get All Updates' from the last 3 months, then download and deploy the SOLUS update to allow the SOLUS 3 Agents to be updated. I guess I'll find out tomorrow... when nobody can log in as the server/database for SIMS has been updated.
  7. Trying to get this done today (Sunday) as it's the only time I can guarantee nobody is on the network (or in SIMS)... plus the Bursar wants to do Year-End in FMS on Monday! Anyway, I get an error telling me it can't access a URL and I seem to remember reading somewhere it has to be changed now it's ESS. Now I find out that it has to be automagically changed via a SOLUS update, but SOLUS won't update (saying it isn't on the correct version) even though it is... Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this, as I'm not looking forward to going through all the hassle of finding out who I need to speak to in Capita/ESS these days.
  8. I think it might be that I had "en-gb" in mine and you seem to have "en-us" as your selected language. As it uses the XML for both download and install, I wonder if somehow it misses something it needs in one or the other (or are all the languages in the download)? EDIT: Anyway, first of many hurdles I'm sure...
  9. Thanks, seems I've fixed it (well it has got further than before and looks like it's installing)... Tried your trick on using en-us and en-gb (couldn't add en-gb as a proofing language if that's what you meant, only a second full language) but it still failed. But it put me on the right track I hope... someone else had posted an XML that states '' This could be something to do with having the English 'International' (yeah, right!) ISO downloaded for our Windows 10 installs, or the fact that it had an uninstall of a previous Office 2016... Seems to have sorted it out, so thanks again!
  10. Well, looks like it's time to give up! Seemed to be going fine, at least it managed to uninstall Office 2016 OK (which means it could see the share and read the XML)... Then either this: Or this: Depending on which setup.exe I used, could be filtering but I can't find anything in the firewall logs that is blocked this time so...
  11. Yeah, that's a good shout, but unfortunately I have only one school and one server, that was new about 8 years ago maybe (there is zero budget here unfortunately and looking worse every year)... But the one it replaced could only manage Server 2003 due to hardware limitations, I kept it for a bit but had to scrap it eventually as there really was no point keeping it. EDIT: For a minute I thought this was about patch Tuesday! I hadn't seen anyone ranting on here so did mine last night... I thought just my luck there's an issue been found now! EDIT 2: Still would love a sticky at the top of each OS forum...
  12. Also, if it is a startup batch file, how do you only get it to run once or use an 'if exist'...? I've seen one on here that says 'If EXIST "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16" goto :FINISHED' but we currently have Office 2016 installed so it does exist and obviously exits...
  13. Well.... I didn't know that... I just presumed that as 5 teachers were doing it and the request came via official school email it was legit school business... not just a 'can you do me a personal favour' kind of discussion in the corridor... I spoke to a teacher who I remembered did it a few years ago... I thought it strange as she said that as she had a Mac at home she couldn't do it back then as whoever was the service provider didn't have Mac software, but now it has changed to Capita... All starting to make sense!
  14. Is that a batch file startup script? Yeah, I have seen a few posts on here about issues running the deployment/install from a UNC, not so much the download though (maybe it's just 'one of those things' and everybody just got on with it and did what we ended up doing). No SCCM unfortunately.
  15. Obviously I'm completely in the dark about all of this, so I'm just trying to find out who needs what and why. Also need to see the specs from the PAG, although I'm hoping there won't be anything that needs more than a basic modern laptop to run it. If they download any software I doubt they'd be able to install it on their machines, so that's going to be an issue to start with...
  16. Not really sure where to put this, but here goes... Pretty busy at the moment so I'm hoping EDUGEEK can save from a few rabbit holes this morning! I just received an email from a teacher: "5 teachers are marking SATs this year and wanted to check we have the software on our laptops." Then a copy/paste of what looks like some sort of instructions... And that's it.... I guess the rest is up to me, so I just wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge of Adobe Connect (instead of just using Teams, Meet or even $deity forbid... Zoom)... Also if anyone knows what the Primary Assessment Gateway is and how to access it, that would be grand... EDIT: Unless the teacher is reading this incorrectly and only 'supervisors' need Adobe Connect...? Because it looks like a 'paid for' application so far...
  17. OK, so a little bit further and more issues... Got the Office Deployment Tools to extract the setup.exe and example XMLs on a share on the server. Sorted out the XML I want to use and did the CMD to download the install files... ERROR! Tried on my own PC and.... ERROR! Went through the XML trying to see what could be stopping it removing a line and retrying and found out that if you specify a 'Source Path' location (network or local) for the deployment install files in the XML it stops the download... Made a copy of the XML called 'download' removing that and it download on my PC, so I tried it on the server. Unfortunately it only downloaded half the required files and... ERROR! Looked through the firewall logs and it seems we are blocking "https://config.edge.skype.com" on the server IP and as this was denied something wasn't downloaded (I did try unblocking it, but it still didn't work and I couldn't be bothered to spend the rest of the day poking holes in the firewall so copied across what downloaded to my PC). So, now I have deployment share with all the required files downloaded and a 'deployment' XML... just need to work out how I actually deploy it now... but I've had enough for today!
  18. Thanks for that, good to have some reassurance! I was editing my post when you replied, but I think I had already convinced myself that it wasn't going to apply to the Office 2019 licensing/install (in fact I now don't think either of those lines apply). Pity MS couldn't have made that clearer by greying out that section if you choose an install product that doesn't require those in the XML... EDIT: We don't use KMS and I chose MAK in the XML generator, so I'm hoping there is a line in there that explains that to the install and it goes off to activate on the internet (although I can't see one)...
  19. Hi @kennysarmy Not dealing with O365/M365 apps, but having trouble with the opposite as I am trying to get Office 2019 installed... MS just making things complicated as always! Anyway, just noticed this whilst creating a deployment XML on the website: https://config.office.com/ Seems like it's an option to set-up the token roaming right from the deployment set-up. Anyway, hope you got it sorted!
  20. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work that way.... However, I have found that I might be overthinking it (or MS have made a complete hash of explaining it and have written a tool that doesn't actually make sense)! It seems that the only way I can get the other two options to be selectable is if I choose the 'Product' Office Suite - 'Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise' this is the only time I can change to Device Based or Shared Computer... this possibly makes sense as this is when you WOULD need to specify depending on your use case scenario and licensing of M365 apps (but I don't want to install M365 apps, I want Office 2019)..... If however you are installing Office 2019, it should automatically activate with the key provided AND be licenced to the 'computer' and not a 'user'... I guess my confusion here stems from the fact that if I have chosen Office Pro Plus 2019 as the 'product' then it should automatically grey out ALL of those choices as there is no need to make a choice there.... EDIT: I also noticed the line which I guess must take the included MAK key and activate and hopefully ignore the other lines about 'shared computer' or 'device based' licensing as it isn't a O365/M365 apps install and they only pertain to that... or maybe I can just remove those lines from the XML in that case?
  21. Interested in this too... Just gone to create my deployment configuration xml on the Office Customisation Tool website and it will not let me choose 'Device Based Activation'... in fact it is greyed out! I guess I can edit the config.xml but why won't it let me choose it in the tool, what am I missing here?
  22. This is for Office 2019 though not O365, still the same process? Thanks, that saved me a fair amount of potentially wasted time wondering why it wasn't working! WOW! Well done MS, this all seems so much simpler and easier than downloading and deploying an MSi...
  23. Actually looking at it I'm not exactly sure what I've downloaded It says it is 'SW_DVD5_Office_Professional_Plus_64Bit_English_-6_OfficeOnlineSvr_MLF_X21-90444.ISO'.... Office Online Server? Where am I supposed to install that, on a server share? Who is doing the 'Click-to-Run' part...? The user? It was my initial understanding that it uses its own 'special' internet channel for updates (or you can configure a share and manage them manually), but again there is the WSUS entry (so what exactly does that do?) and apparently WUfB so...?
  24. Out of idle curiosity ('training' day today) I decided to toy with the idea of getting our estate on to Office 2019 (currently Office 2016). I thought I'd jump on MVLSC and download the MSI to give it a quick blast on a test machine.... Well, that escalated quickly and now I find myself in a world of 'Click-to-Run', Deployment XMLs, Office Deployment Tools and the Office Content Delivery Network (CDN)... What the actual heck is going on here....? I feel like an old man having been transported to 2259 and also like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car at the same time. As usual, my research has left me with more questions than answers, not helped by the usual MS 'help' docs being less then helpful! From reading this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployOffice/office2019/deploy I gather that apart from being 'Click-to-Run' (whatever that means - per user license?), I can't deploy it by the usual MSI or manual methods or type in a serial key (MAK) to activate it, or use WSUS to control updates to it... it has to get install files and updates from the CDN (although I can create more work and download them to the network - what happens if they click to run whilst at home?) and I have to get all the above set-up before I can even deploy it to one machine to test it... However, MVLSC does have an ISO available (and the ODT): Also WSUS does have the product listed: Anyone got a really simple way to explain all this (otherwise I'm sticking to 2016 until 2025)? EDIT: Just to note we don't have SCCM or anything like that for deployment...
  25. Thanks all, I will have a look at the Anker one, it's worth trying at that price. Good to know, although I never use wireless mice actually. I don't know, maybe it's a hang-over from gaming and a bit old school and still have concerns about battery life and the old ones used to be a bit heavier...
