  1. Ha ha, yes great idea on both counts!
  2. So been asked to setop CPOMS in school and we have to setup a SIMS link with them. As we are now hot on paper trails and procedures, amongst all of the many procdures and policies we have in place I dont have one for allowing SIMS link (our most sensitive data...)to said company. How do you do this in you school? I know the head will allow this access, as the head has asked me to set it up, but I need a paper trail to cover my setting up the link.
  3. MendIT | The UK's No1 Fully Authorised Computer Repair Specialist Used these in the past, good service!
  4. We use XMA, been great for years, DEP sorted straight away and have knowlegable education people.
  5. Amazes me that an engineer would not know that, I spent a few years being a 'disaster recovery' engineer (a long time ago though) and RAID should not be taken lightly, especially on somebody elses system. Luckily the school had backups etc, but the hassle it caused was huge.
  6. In the techie at the schools defence, he is quite new to the role and expected the 'branded' engineer to know his stuff and the engineer just did what he did, with no time to question it. Not a great experience for the techie but gets the worst one out the way early in the career.
  7. Not naming which of the big brands and it did not happen at my school, but..... so called 'experienced' engineer, walks into school, pulls a drive out and replaces with a newe one while system is live, then waits ten minutes pulls out another and replaces it with a new one on a a Raid 5, wonders why its all collapses..... he did all this then calmly walks away!
  8. We have Zoixi, very well thought out, cable management is as good as it can get compared to other brands, we love em!
  9. Our Easymail to Office 365 just completed by RM, migaration of mail was easy, the AD sync works and all I had to do was check over a spreadsheet to verify it was correct. Once nearly ready I logged into 5 random accounts to have a nosy if all was looking o.k then they completed the migration. We are using Unify and the staff really like it so far, it works for us and the migration was worth every penny it did not cost us.
  10. Would like to hear if anyone is using one of these and what they think?
  11. Do check in installed programs for two versions of smart handwriting being installed, this cure our problems.
  12. Whole school Smart 4065,s really pleased so far. We had different boards from most of the top players in school for a week trial and with feedback etc form staff we chose the Smart product.
  13. We had the gaps issue, drove me mad spoke to Smart very helpful but figured it out on my own in the end. After a software update Smart handwriting got installed twice, no idea why, removed one version and solved the gaps issue. Paul
  14. Could be many things that cause this. What method do you use to connect to the shared drives? Does it affect all users, some, or is there a pattern of user affected? Time of day, is it random, or a ceratin times? Have you checked logs on server and client station, this may give better idea of problem. If GPO assigned, have you checked GPResult etc? Do you have any DNS issues, master browser issues can cause this also. Did the problem arise after a server restart for example. Just a few to start with lol
  15. I does sound like something is a mismatch somewhere.
  16. Can you try a fibre patch lead between the two switches on a desk i.e next to each other to see if the connect then?
  17. Lots of things it could be, a few questions.... Do you get a link light when all connected on the fibre modules at both ends? Do you have any spare cores on the fibre to try instead, a link light does not mean a good connection. What fibre, I presume its multimode? What terminations at the fibre panel (presuming there is one) i.e ST LC, then what fibre leads are you using i.e ST to LC. Have you got the same brand/model switches at both ends and same fibre modules? Are they managed switches and configured with IP etc Some switches have an ethernet port that if used will knock out the fibre port or the other way round. Are the fibre ends in good condition, without dust etc. Paul
  18. +1 we are pleased with ours too!!
  19. We have 4065,s and the remote has a freeze button!
  20. + GPO n scheduled task! I set the suite to 6pm and for near on a year I did not realise that some of the meetings ran till 7pm, till a staff member asked why the pc at the fron kept shutting down on its own lol
  21. Genee 8100 here, staff adore them, we tried goose neck jobbies and they were irritating to the user. They get used heavily here and are part of everyday class life. The genee has a great zoom facility and many other features, we differeing models for about 5 years and just kitted the new build out with them so can recommend them highly. We have had one go back to genee but this was dead easy so cant complain. Only real issue was the software was a bit clunky so staff just use it as a visualiser, we even have one in the hall for assembly use. We are a primary school by the way!
