I bought myself a nice big desk from Ikea, large table top and a set of legs (all are seperates), came to about 30 at the time iirc, also just bought a monitor shelf for it in Ikea recently and that was about £15, even bought one of their cheaper chairs and thats nice and comfortable too

I think that is the divide though and now it seems to have tipped towards highlighting the bad and tarring everyone with the same brush, we all know the difference I think between the genuine unemployed and the "lifestyle" unemployed, I doubt many people have a problem with the genuine unemployed in this country who want to work and are trying to get work, its just the cases of people on "lifestyle" who bring the bad name too it.

Thats the sad thing, your never going to get any sort of realism with the people in government for the majority I think, they seem to live in such a microcosm, detached from the working/under classes as its long since they have been at that level of living/ some have never lived at that level and below of income.

amusing watching George on bbc news this morning before I left the house, people putting it to him how the recession is affecting him directly, response of "hes taken a pay cut in his role" sums a lot of it up about this multi millionaire government, no other struggling for him during this time. Agree on the Liberals though, they have sold their souls here and endorsed and propped up a conservative government I still like the saying that was banded about in the US elections though, "The lesser of two evils when voting, is still an evil choice overall" I honestly think that the political system in this country is knackered though

we have two networks here side by side (admin and curriculum) and our LEA run our sims on curriculum via an admin side share without much fuss from what I can tell.

I just couldnt handle metro when I tried it, wife went beserk too when I stuck it on her laptop for a try, the non-permanence of the start menu also is VERY frustrating and the "hover on part of the screen and hope that the menus display", we are also using Server 2012 as a test on one machine here and RDP is a royal pain in the a*se because of the vanishing "will it, wont it appear" start menu icon on it. I really do not get who the hell thought that this was such a great idea at M$ to do that to the interface, it is a shame, because the OS does have some other neat features, such as proper ISO integration, which people will skip over I reckon because of that god awful interface. Glad I am using Fedora/Win7Pro at home

Black ice on the roads here this morning, made it a bit hairy driving along my usual route, especially when the car was sliding about at low speeds (spent most of the journey at about 25 mph after the black ice started)

At this point in time/line in the sand, I would not say that our processing requirements are massive, as I said earlier, our app usage is pretty low across the board, high end stuff is run by our LEA as I said earlier, stuff with us is spread out over the existing hardware we have quite widely, some are one process a server(not ideal), some are two(not much better imo), but looking forward, our school is expanding slowly and surely and I think that myself and @garethedmondson both want a solid base we can build upon and scale upwards/forwards eventually, I think if we go down the VM route (which I think is best for us, SAN or not, we can move our servers around without much hassle when their virtualised, at least as far as what I envisage) Its been a case of revisiting our plans and evaluating the road we were going down here, as we head towards the new year, I see the good points and the bad that you have all raised so far, so thanks for the input all so far, much appreciated and a lot to consider still.

most of the systems we are thinking of virtualising are not heavy duty as far as I would categorise them, as our LEA manage the major things at this time (AD/Exchange/anti-virus protection/SIMS) (also view to moving some stuff to cloud based services in the future possibly) though we are looking to replace 9 year old RM hardware in some of the cases, as its on its last legs, 3 most major things at the moment we run are our impero server, printer server (pcounter) and our rebuilding machine - WDS/MDT box lot of the other stuff we run at the moment are fairly small applications mostly on 1/2 per box maximum (obviously on the old RM kit the hard disks are fairly small as well)

Hello, I am due to lose my man cave shortly, birth of our son is fast approaching (1st March) and I need to clear out my desk from my own home office, so to speak, lol Anyhow I am basically looking to move my machine into the wife and I's bedroom, whereas I had virgin at installation run a 25 metre long cable internally to get the cable up into the back bedroom of our house, obviously there isnt enough cable to get into our main bedroom and the wife doesnt want me running any new cabling within the house, so I am thinking get a hold of some powerline adapters, as they seem to be all the rage and will fix the problem, as I can just relocate the virgin hub to the main installation point and cable accordingly (dont fancy the wireless hub being left in the babies room obviously) So, I ask, What should I look for in a powerline adapter ? I primarily use my PC for online gaming - WoW and FPS games atm, though obviously am thinking of streaming films and such going forward. Do they cause any issues with things like online gaming or do they "just work" to borrow that phrase from a well known evil corporation ? I am looking to spend about £40 or thereabouts. training and an interest in actually using technology is usually the two main issues needed for it to be used well, at least from what I have seen personally, we have some departments in the school I am in that use technology expertly such as the IWB, moodle and pretty much anything available, though you do get some that use it as an OHP or powerpoint board though. Though I will say the new teachers I see training are very impressive when it comes to the technology side of things, they have a very good grasp of things before they start with us, like the IWBs and moodle and online learning.

Thanks for your responses here, I was wondering regarding the public places bit, I agree with the definition, but I will mention it to the SMT here as a matter of course. Helped clear up a fair bit of stuff for us, we dont have any of the cameras as PTZ ones, their all fixed here, but obviously as we have only just installed them, we are keen to get the legalities of it all spot on. Hello All, Our school has just had a rather minimal CCTV system installed onto the premises and obviously as its all cameras and computers it falls to the tech savvy (IT department) to monitor them / control them, I have had a look on the ICO website about them and the code of practice relating to them and it has thrown up a few questions, especially the bit regarding public spaces. Does the school I work in now require a public space surveillance licence ? 9.4 of the CCTV code of practice ? Obviously the followup being about SIA licensing then if we are deemed to be a public space ? Are there any other sources of information regarding CCTV and its use within Wales, I have been through the ICO guidelines and have obviously looked at them, but I am now looking for as much information as possible, so I can notify the SMT here of any concerns I may have prior to commencement of it going live within the school.

I think whoever wins, doesn't really matter, America is in big trouble economically, their debt isn't really serviceable and America seems too divided over it all to come up with any sort of creditable solution, because their senate / representative houses basically counteract one another at the moment. It seemed all along that they conspired to make it hard for Obama from the moment he was voted into office, It would be interesting if he got a bit more of a majority this time around when those houses get voted for, to see if he can actually make more effective change. Obama seems more ideal to me personally than Romney though
