We have a 2 node/SAN setup which was initially 2012(HP DL380e x2 and a HP P2000 iSCSI), I recently took the decision to redo the disks and changed the setup with the SAN storage when I was upgrading both of our Server OS to 2012 R2, so in essence it was a fresh installation for us. There is no straight over the top upgrade pre-2012R2 I am told, though now its a different ballgame with R2 I basically exported all the machines off the cluster onto our lesser quality server and kept the basic essentials running here (printing, exams, successmaker (our domain is LEA provision as is our main file server) (we could live without spiceworks and WSUS for a day or two) I then destroyed the cluster and nuked both nodes, reconfigured the SAN storage for the cluster in its management and rebuilt it all from the ground up including updates, took a little over 2 working days to complete, including the importing back of VMs onto the system, only taking that long because the servers are fairly slow to reboot here and I made sure both were updated to as high as possible (in excess of about 5 minutes a time rebooting). I have a list somewhere of what I actually did in the process if you want, it may help with giving a rough guide of the procedure I followed.

We didnt have the rotten eggs smell, what we had instead was a UPS failure and the batteries inside all split bar one in a rackmount unit. That was unusual but thankfully they are dry batteries so no horrible acid problems

We use 2013 and on whole it's fine, some staff prefer 2010 and don't like new tech but it's been fine on the whole, I like it and use it although I don't love it's superwhiteness and the way outlook behaves with replying by default making things into "conversations" but you can change all that to suit your needs

VPP is worth setting up and it isn't really from doing it here, depends how much you rely on MDM, we are setup for it, its a bit of rigmarole, in that they will want to speak to your HT at the school to confirm your authorisation to order apple products for the school and so on, once your setup it pretty much doesnt do much. In terms of the main thing though that people seek it out for - the price breaks - though most apps that do offer an app only offer it on volume of 20 or more, which when you want a single copy of iMovie doesnt become effective.

you can have both setup for your users with no costs and they can use them both if needs be (if your an EES School or your LEA have EES with O365 if you want to include faculty I understand, though dont quote me on licensing - I dont know where in south you are here, feel free to pm if you want to) We have both of them, though I understand where you are coming from with Hwb, thats being pushed out at the moment here as well.

You sound like you possibly need the raid controller drivers to add in during installation for windows to see the drive there, search for the raid controller drivers on hp website Our hp dl380e gen 8 had to have the drivers on a usb for 2012r2 to recognise the drive for installation

I like Fassbender as an actor and him and Rogen look good in that trailer, all in all though it doesnt seem that interesting to me subject wise, lots of its already been covered

iOS 8.4 Quietly Disables Home Sharing for Music I know this was an issue, its been disabled "for now" it appears. Might be tied in with that ?

Our server room just had the AC replaced and upgraded after it broke with a more powerful unit that blasts the room with 18 degrees air, I had to image some ipads this morning and it was too cold to stay that long in now. It could house penguins or a polar bear at a push. Our classrooms are different altogether and can be uncomfortable with the heat even with windows open, especially after the kids run around for lunch now.

That is insane there, the mountain zooming out was jaw dropping stuff.

I am paying around £53 with VM a month for 152meg broadband and a house phone (which we have really for incoming calls only or the odd 0845 which mobiles rip you off on. Sky is £40 with movies and multiroom (I wont do VM TV as I like Sky Atlantic and I remember when they fell out and I lost Sky1 and all the TV I loved before)

I have 2 chromecasts, their decent and controllable from a phone/ipad when your using netflix, I have had more in free credit from google than both of them cost here, (both of them cost £35 between them and I have had about £45 back in free credit and movies. Also decent that you can cast tabs and have web screens thrown up there from chrome on any OS that will run it, thats how I play stuff from itv player from there when we moved and were living like cavement and didnt have sky TV installed

Had two inspections here with Estyn so far, one where I was in fully employed in role and they never spoke to me in any capacity other than technical, in the run up to it, it was nuts really with a fair amount of work getting things ready and swapped out as needed. When they attended, the only thing I was involved in was getting their laptops onto Guest WiFi and one of the inspection team had a failure on their brand new HP laptop and it was stuck going through the repair function for Windows 8.1 and doing a file/disk check, which one of the SLT thought was something to get me involved in, though I wouldn't touch another schools equipment and just gave advice there. Other than that I was just on call and it was eerily calm for that week when they were in

Personally I will be going to it on my home machines as soon as possible it seems very decent from the Beta's, will be a wipe and restore job (loving the fact these days that all my docs and stuff are cloud based, makes for wiping easily without backing stuff up) I have a couple of worries - 8 when it landed was awful with lots of issues and broken things i.e. poor driver support and things were broken like dual monitors which I used, though I think this is better prepared this time around. Work - maybe my machine when theres a release so I can get used to it, as long as it runs RSAT I will be happy so I can admin from my machine.

lol the days of 14.4k and 28.8k live again ! Good old USR ruling the roost there when I first went online. Our school at the time had a 28.8k USR that our IT teacher had a line for in his room

We use acrobat and office2013 here too, tables are the main pita with them I see. Also onenote can be used for ocr and works ok

That was a little bit disappointing for the smaller sites like ours reading that, were a 2host/SAN setup here. I imagine having to shoot for 10gb cards for servers as a minimum then to handle the internetworking to not smash performance, which is again expensive stuff.

We use the GPP Section and would recommend using that if you can, it makes it a bit easier to specify the mappings and you can elect one of them to be a default then.

tbh this area has never made clear sense, my reading of the second bit of that website means you would be ok to drive it if you charged pupils and it was for educational use regarding the permit. I think this whole bit was a combined government/DSA ripoff anyway for the motorist, as you can essentially drive a same sized vehicle as a minibus without a further test, provided it doesn't have seats in it or weigh too much.

That and Java are both welcome to disappear as far as I am concerned. Had mega issues a while back with a flash update taking out abilities to play youtube, that was traumatic enough, followed then by a stupid issue with Java refusing to work on a PC for label printing regardless of anything I would do, only thing that righted it in the end was a newer version of java which uninstalled completely the old version (even the uninstaller tool didnt do that properly)

I recall the thread, some schools were saying that they required people to be registered companies as of a certain date. Personally if it was me I wouldnt do it as a sole trader, its not worth the risks financially and a company offers a lot more protection to you as an individual. Just got around to watching Django Unchained here, dont know what to make of it in all honesty, enjoyed it, though I think Dr King Schultz made the film for me

I am working towards mine at the moment under self study, its not super easy the theory side and quite dry, I have both of Wendell Odoms books, I am going to do the two seperate exams route for the CCENT and CCNA, I have been told by lots that the combined exam is extra horrible and I am in no super rush. The codes for the current ones are :- 100-101 - ICND1 200-101 - ICND2 Combined is :- 200-120 The old exams start with 640, so be careful if your buying materials as they could be the older ones and some stuff has changed. Local uni here offers it as their a Cisco academy, but its just over £1000 to do it in 6 months.
