My first question would be why do the school want to switch to the fibre for two cabs across a corridor, when all that link is doing is facilitating the Internet connection by the looks of it. You say it's a small school, so the copper link should be more than sufficient I'd have thought. If they must go that way, certainly avoid converters as has been said, a new router is your best option. An alternative (albeit still adding another hop), is to buy a cheap 8-port switch with SFP capability, and effectively use that as a glorified converter - it would also give you a bit of flexibility if you did want to run anything else into Room 1 - e.g. a Aruba 1930 Switch (JL680A)

So many will ask for all the SIMS permissions going for their sync tools. We have put our foot down and said they need to detail exactly what data they need to export, we'd check it was appropriate, and would tailor their permissions accordingly. Just to be slightly different to consensus on here... We use Xmind (mind maps) for our general tasks and planning. Free version is good, although we have the Pro version as you can add task info to this, and it has an Gantt chart. Great way to see tasks in different formats. Although we do use GanttProject to plan out our summer schedule and bigger projects as this creates a better overview. Teams & Planner are something we are starting to look at for general helpdesk jobs though.

I'm no expert here, but I'm fairly sure there is no requirement to use a Tender Framework. If you school was a member of the CPC, your BM would know about it for a start. CentOS isn't the immediate issue, but RHEL is based on Fedora upstream, and a large part of the financial and staffing support for Fedora comes from RH. It seems IBM is more interested in their cloud portfolio than the OS market. It could well see support for Fedora being cut as a part of a lack of focus on RHEL. It's frightening... Universities by their nature are supposed to be places of intellectual rigour and open-mindedness, the regressive authoritarianism that has taken hold in the US, and increasingly here, makes me fear for the future. A dangerous minority of vocal students who believe that it is more important to not be exposed to opinions they don't like, than it is to have truth and intelligence. This is a world of "safe spaces", "no platforming", and "trigger warnings" - when you start scratching the surface it almost seems unbelievable.
