  1. Moderately nefarious.
  2. It's the grater of two evils.
  3. Most likely related to the JANET DDOS.
  4. We use LiveRegister as well for our Sixth Form, and very happy with it.
  5. Aside from the very obvious and concerning safeguarding issues here... I did rather scratch my head at this bit however: Surely the answer here then is to behave appropriately, not complain that you've been caught doing something you know you shouldn't! I don't think this would work in later life, "Well, Your Honour, I don't feel the issue here is that I was caught on camera committing the crime, even though I knew the cameras were there, I believe the real problem is that the cameras impinged on my right to commit the crime without being caught".
  6. Delegate permissions and distribute Reset Student User Password Free Tool for Schools, Business and Education - Burconix
  7. Pick have shown a couple this year - They're a Sky company, so do it to try to drum up business. Just a shame the commentary is rubbish on Sky - If only they'd hire Mike Carlson! I'm more college football than NFL (having lived just outside a US Uni campus once, it's infectious!), and the Spartans lost their first game this weekend, and as a nominal Lions fan, I might as well give up on the NFL anyway!
  8. We've got a Climate CM-2 here, rack mount, CM-2, The Original Climate MonitorÂ::ÂÂ::ÂThe Climate Quite a few sensors built in, plus an add-on water sensor. Fairly reasonably priced as I remember.
  9. VMware vSphere Essentials I believe - Essentially VMware asked them to stop supporting the free version. Veeam and Free ESXi – it’s official now
  10. Hmm... I suppose putting a monetary value on them does help... Same as when we make staff pay for damage to equipment from their departmental budget... all of a sudden they take more care where they couldn't before. Would have just been better if the supermarkets could have managed the situation on there own, without the state intervening - my Libertarian leanings showing through - the nanny state immediately gets my heckles up! Though I don't agree that VED or tax on cigarettes is anything to do with trying to change our behaviour, it's about raking in the tax pounds - if everyone suddenly stopped smoking, the Government would put up taxes elsewhere. I did just get to walk around Waitroses with Sainsburys bags though, much to the looks of some of the staff, so there's another advantage!
  11. Well, firstly you're making the assumption I was being sarcastic in my statement... Others have said that people can't be trusted to look after the environment, so the statement would stand. Anyway, my point isn't that we shouldn't help the environment, or that plastic bags are great - my point is the Government does these things like it's going to have some hugely major impact... the sort of people who throw plastic bags in hedgerows probably aren't going to give two-hoots about this, and those of us that do care, already re-use bags where we can, or use "proper" bags. It seems like a gimmick to me to help the Government appear eco-friendly (when no Government really is) by throwing the Green lobby a bone... I'd be much more interested to see them clamping down on CO2 emissions, industry flouting restrictions, etc. How about making it mandatory for supermarkets to offer bag recycling facilities? A couple of my local supermarkets do this, and it makes sense. The Government is there to deal with the things the people can't, Kyoto etc., rather than nanny-stating us by charging 5p for a bag... If you can't convince people that saving the planet is a good thing other than by charging them 5p a bag, we're really on a hiding to nothing anyway... There are many things people can do at home to help the planet, and the people that already are trying their best, are the people who already re-use bags, and the people that don't care, still don't care. You improve things and people's habits by winning the argument, not forcing people.
  12. I, for one, am glad the Government is concentrating on the important matters, like how I carry my shopping, rather than the minor things like poverty, the economy, terrorism, and world conflict. I wouldn't be able to be a responsible citizen and look after the environment without the Government telling me how to do it.
  13. I've found this occuring with existing backup chains in the past, and ended up having to start a new one.
  14. It's an additional OS, on a new type of device, with an eco-system that doesn't integrate easily with enterprise systems - it's exactly the sort of system I'd recommend insisting on training on before deploying. Half the problem in the past that School's ICT Departments have been accused of (rightly or wrongly) is winging things without proper training and due process. If the CPD Co-ordinator laughs at that sort of proposal for training, then they've made their choice re: the importance of the product. The big deal is a consumer product is being forced into enterprise environments with the attitude that ICT will just "magically" make it all work.
  15. If you login to the Support Portal and search the KB for "Single Sign On", the guide is the top hit. We use it here, it requires a seperate license (of course!). You have to extend your AD schema which adds a CCM-PortalUsername and CCM-PortalPassword field to your users schema. You then configure AD under Server Settings on the Facility Controller, and match AD to ePortal accounts under Server --> Login Name Table --> Single Sign On logins. As for the security side of things - It's a difficult balancing act - Security is only as good as the user, and they have access to a lot of information under their logins anyway, e-mails with confidential data, SharePoint with confidential data... At the end of the day, they have to be responsible professionals and protect the data they have access too, short of us forcing them to enter a password each and every time they want to access a peice of data, they have to take some responsibility. All they ever did before SSO was save the password in their browser anyway... you take that facility away, and they just tack it on a post-it note... Technology is not a panacea.
  16. Happy birthday mate... Have a great day!

  18. We're eagerly looking into getting HAP in place for September, but seem to have run into a strange problem during initial configuration. When entering our Active Directory details on the configuration page, we're informed that "There is something wrong connecting to your AD infrastructure". Our UPN is correct, and the account used is a member of Domain Admins. We've tried changing the user to the DN etc., but still to no avail. Any help gratefully received. We're using 10.5 on Server 2008 R2. Some threads on here seem to have some similarities, but not quite! Many thanks.
  19. O2 Joggler... used for all of about 2 hours! MD was great!

  21. As above, if not written into Articles of Association - and I've never known them to be - you can't really. The Governing Board isn't responsible to staff or parents, they're responsible to the DfE, and effectively implemented via OFSTED. If the School is failing, or their has been gross negligence, then that may trigger an emergency inspection however, which could lead to the Board being replaced. Boards can't just be replaced because the decisions they make aren't liked by staff/parents.
