I have been doing this since at least 2009, they close down at 6pm ish. I use a scheduled task that executes a batch file stored on a network share. The batch file contains: shutdown -s -f -t 0 I could also stop the shutdown by renaming the batch file. Useful for events such as a parents evening. Using this instead of something like LanSchool, NetSupport etc meant that you didn't have to remember to do it manually and covered computers that didn't have it installed. Regular shutdowns also helped cut down the tickets! It also ensured the computers are properly patched. I also had automatic boot. You can set it in the BIOS of many vendors. WOL is also an option.

I could work. But I would spin up a cloud instance of Spiceworks instead. It’s free and simple and is designed for the job. It will make it much easier to manage.

This was my first thought. But they why wouldn’t the old owners be cooperating?

If you have a backup connection why would teachers use their own data and why would this be an issue in the first place please? Unless I have missed something?

Could you make a batch file and run it as a scheduled task from a server? (Assuming you have one).

I don’t work in education and we backup Office 365.

Going off what has been said here I agree that this new equipment is likely a red herring. There is an issue somewhere else.

It should be obvious but sometimes it’s needed! We shipped out a laptop at work and they took the laptop out of the box and binned the rest including the charger [emoji849]

We looked at it and decided against it for a few of reasons Limited supported SIP providers (might be better in the UK) The cost! Quite a few missing features that are standard on other phone systems. We went with 3CX instead.

It’s not just the OS. 7-Zip and Adobe PDF recently had an issue that allows you to elevate to admin. Both fairly common applications.

I have made my own tools using Powershell. However, in the past I have used the above and it was great. I used it to move thousands of users from one domain to another. It was a god send!

What if you put the file on the local C drive and ping the GPO to that?

We buy these from Costco. Also their roast chicken is cheaper than buying a raw one and cooking it yourself!
