  1. The above recycle bin would be my recommendation. If not restore from a backup (assuming you have one).
  2. What Changes Now the Queen's Died I didn't know Scotland had a different design for their post boxes! In just a short space of time there will be 4 different passport designs. Red with "European Union" on the front (they still issued these in 2020) Red without "European Union" on the front Blue with the "Her Majesty" on the inside Blue with the "His Majesty" on the inside
  3. I used one of these for a number of years in my old job. It's a great device!
  4. If things are so bad maybe look at a new architecture? Maybe Chromebooks are the way forward.
  5. Agree. This is my absolute bare minimum. The processor should be a minimum of 8th generation to support Windows 11. Plus a TPM 2.0 chip.
  6. I have seen some trolleys have sockets inside them, if yours does you could Laser printers and photocopiers use heaps of electricity on standby - I hear the equivalent to a 100w bulb . Cutting their power overnight and the weekend might be an idea. Do you have Vmware? You could look it migrating machines to a smaller pool of hosts and powering down servers out of hours. Also if you have physical terminal servers you could schedule startup and shutdown.

    Smart plugs

I think I could achieve this with the Google Home integration. It seems to have this in the Google Home app on my iPhone. I am thinking of keeping to Google instead of Apple homekit. I think the integration will allow additional controls? IKEA has a new bridge coming out very soon so might hold out for that.

    Smart plugs

    They do not
  9. Did you look at the sold listing on eBay (rather than the current for sale prices). That usually balances out the prices and gives a better indication of what the market will pay.
  10. It’s business as usual in Australia. Very few things to mark the death. The Sydney opera house looked superb though. A great touch. Lots of British Police Uniforms have ER on them. I wonder if they will change and how quickly.
  11. What switches are you running? If something like Cisco what SDM template are you running?
  12. It seems to be common to have the virtual machines running on a server and then issue a standard device.
  13. I have also used Barracuda. It does the job. The interface could do with some improvements though. This thread might be useful: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/229047-poll-office-365-backups.html
  14. Is it just the wired? Do you happen to have a network diagram to help please?
  15. What are you backing up?
  16. Is it a case of your internet connection being completely saturated? 700 Chromebooks (plus other bits and pieces) sharing an 800 meg connection doesn’t leave much breathing space. I am not sure form the OP of the internet connection is monitored and how utilised it is.

    Smart plugs

I am considering Philips now. Do they show power consumption please? I don't really want it at the moment but would be nice to have.

    Smart plugs

Over 200 servers at work so really don’t want anymore 🤣. In all seriousness I will have a look. I might also look at Philips as well. They might have the features I want. Thanks for the reply [emoji846]

    Smart plugs

I am considering IKEA. But struggling to find how functional they are. For example can they schedule lights on and off (and maybe automatically know when sunset is) as well as a physical switch to over ride. Do they work if the internet is off? Can you see how consumption on the plugs? If anyone has a good resource for the feature set (and maybe others) it would be good. Cheers.

Did you replace it with something else?

You could get a ZigBee USB adapter and plug directly into Home Assistant if you would like. I am avoid Home Assistant at the moment. The be honest I want something simple. I can't be bothered with it after dealing with servers and stuff at work!

    Smart plugs

It’s something I am looking at the moment. It’s not the plugs themselves I am not sure on, it’s the smart hub. There are plenty of Zigbee plugs out there, but I want a decent Zigbee hub to use with many vendors as i grow the stream.
  23. We have ours set to 25.
  24. You would power off specific ports, not the whole switch. Just don’t include ports used by CCTV cameras.
  25. Not always the case. Out of hours, I have configured VMware clusters to move Virtual Machines to small number of hosts and power down any unneeded server hardware. In the morning everything automatically goes back. I have also done this with physical terminal servers. Only a small number were needed during the night, the rest could be automatically powered down. I worked for bank in 2011 and they had hundreds of terminal servers. As a result they could power off hundreds overnight. Not quite to that scale in schools though! My current employer is 24x7 so not as easy to power everything off. Maybe this could be a feature of newer cabinets, power down after a number of hours (when everything is charged) to avoid waste. Thinking out loud here. Maybe setup a cron job on switches to shutdown (and re-enable) POE network ports for things like IP Phones. It would reduce the power consumption of the switch. Not sure by how much though, not sure if it is worth it. Devices to cut the power on laser printers and copier will save a heap. They consume lots of energy when in standby.
