Thanks guys. The motion sensor isn’t a bad idea. The possums might set it off though! I’m curious if the Google Home app could control it outside the WIFI? I would be fiddly and not as slick as the sensor. Someone is selling a cheap Nest Mini Gen 2 (sealed) on Facebook. Tempted to pick that up as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of using my phone to turn on the doorstep light so I can see the lock. Otherwise I wouldn’t use it. Maybe I could use Google Home to turn it on remotely please? Thanks.

It's funny you should post this. We was talking about this in the office this week. I was showing someone the circles on the note that prevent them from being copied. Adobe Photoshop won't open images of bank notes either.

Hello, I am looking at some smart home stuff (again after not doing anything about it for 2 years!). Philips Hue seems to have lots of options (both physical and software) but the price is quite high! Philips Hue Plug = $64.95 Ikea TRÅDFRI Plug = $20 Philips Hue Colour Bulb = $99.95 Ikea TRÅDFRI Colour Bulb = $30 Philips Hue Bridge = $99.95 Ikea TRÅDFRI Gateway = $59 I don't think you can access the Ikea gateway outside the house natively without something like Google Home. I believe this is possible with Philips Hue natively. I don't really want to get into Home Assistant. It's tempting to get the Philips Hue bridge with Ikea parts. Although there is a new Ikea Gateway coming soon so might be improve it? What are peoples thoughts please? Has anyone used both? If so what did you think? Thanks

Hello and welcome back! Is the internet connection stable? It could be the cause of it dropping but the VPN should automatically reconnect itself once the internet is restored.

As others have said you have a security issue. Potential loss of personal data being a big issue. Also certain functions or the whole device might stop functioning without warning. For example, they might change the way they login and this requires a software update on the device. The lifecycle of all devices is planned in advance and are removed from service before they reach end of life.

It should work. Do you use RADIUS? It might behave differently with a PSK. You can also use GPO to block them connecting to the guest SSID.

We set the WIFI settings by group policy and then they can’t forget the SSID.

These would make nice Chromebooks with ChromeOS Flex!

I don’t work in education but we did the team site route. Works really well for us! Especially as a new starter my resources are in one place and they can be easily accessed on a tablet / phone.

We also have a break glass account. A randomly generated password. Sealed in an envelope that is signed by IT staff. Then it’s laminated so it’s sealed around each side to make it tamper proof. Then it’s placed in the safe. We also have notifications if that account is used.

We would like to get back to the begging when they have finished. If they can't close it would it be stuck on page of the last visitor? Plus we still need something for applications that aren't browser based. EDIT: with Edge, I have figured out how to restart back to the begging when idle so that should work. But the original question still stands as I need to address this for non browser based apps. The script in post 2 (Thanks @dhicks !) works but we can see the command line. Maybe there is a way to hide this?

I just gave it a go in Edge. But it keeps re-opening multiple tabs. This seem to work though msedge.exe --kiosk http://www.contoso.com --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen Cheers EDIT: Correction.

Thanks for the reply! It's Edge but it should work? I will try it out. I believe this is similar to the current setup "chrome --kiosk --app https://domain.goes.here/url/goes/here.html". However, this is an example of many. We do have others that aren't browser based so it wouldn't work with them.

I saw a similar set up in a school but they populated it by pulling the names from DHCP. Although it wouldn't be simple to seperate them out by department.

In the past we had a batch file hosted on a server with the command and then the scheduled task would call that. If you wanted to stop it just empty the file. Both our methods work should work well though. I am curious how you populated the scripts with the computer names? Was this automatic?

You could run the command on the actual PC from the task scheduler. Group policy will help create the task. Shutdown -s -f -t 0 It will shutdown all the same time.

Hello, We have some computers that are a kiosk. They automatically open a browser on startup. However, the user closes the browser when they have finished and it has caused confusion for those who aren't very good with computers. I have seen an application in the past, you prefix the application .exe in a shortcut (in our case a browser link that is in the startup folder to auto launch). When it is ran it opens as normal. But when the browser is closed it will automatically reopen. Can anyone remind me of this application please? If not maybe someone can suggest an alternative please? Thanks

Who is the registrar? I would usually use their DNS service.
