Yeah i can and i will continue to do so. I just feel it misses out on that personal touch. If im walking through another school and see something or a question just pops up i can ask, on here i have to sign in check the board etc. I just think it will enhance the experience for both parties.

I was thinking more of what systems they use and any issues with them. I don't think we would be looking to purchase across multiple trusts or schools. If we were planning a system change it would be nice to speak with other trusts to help us reduce the number of potential options. I'll keep your'e thoughts in mind though.
  4. Hi, Is anyone interested in this idea? Ive struggled for years to get through to other IT managers at other Trusts. Sometimes its great but most of the time they don't want to know. So im pitching for buddy trusts. Is there a Trust in the West Midlands, Derby, Nottingham, Coventry, Tamworth interested in this? We would ideally like a couple of trusts we could talk with about IT and what they are using and what problems they face. We would like to visit the site, see things in action and vice versa have them visit us. Our Trust is quite small but is mixed primary, secondary and a sixth form centre so it wouldn't matter if you were a trust of just primary or just secondary. Moving forward i think it would be great to get other departments involved like finance and see how they can share ideas. If anyone is interested please let me know, i'll even provide biscuits when you visit us. Thanks
  5. Virtualbox is fine, my concern is that they want students to access github for education, in order to do that i have to unlock github as it uses the same resources in smoothwall. This means that the students that dont behave have access to standard github which is full of tools to hack virtualbox. Ive had to say no hence looking for an alternative.
  6. We do use virtual box already but the teacher wants to move away from it for some reason. So that makes me not want to press any further with it, although im not sure there is a realistic alternative that is not going to cost me a fortune.
  7. Hi, We have the issue of staff and students in computer science wanting to use websites and software that would normally be blocked on smoothwall or allow access to things (like github) that could cause damage to the network. I was thinking of using a hosted virtual desktop environment to push the risk off my systems. I know i can do some of this locally and believe me we do but im still asked for more as courses change. Has anyone done this? How easy was it and how much did it cost? I am constantly saying no to people and i need another way around the issue. I have looked at Azure but it seems way over complicated. Are there any easier platforms out there for education where this already exists? Thanks
  8. Really appreciate this response. We already have a backup internet connection but theres no way our teachers will use their own data to take a register it just wouldnt happen. Just wondered if you had gone as far as printing out contact details from sims and having paper registers ready just in case?
  9. Hi All, First post so if its in the wrong place please forgive me. We are looking to move to hosted sims. Have any secondaries done this already? What were the issues? What do you do if the internet goes down? Our safeguarding team are not happy about losing it if the internet goes off. I know we can stay on prem but the trust want to move to the cloud. Any help much appreciated.
