The resources appear fine in the task manager, in addition our monitoring application doesn’t pickup any issues. It isn’t tanking the CPU or RAM. The server is slow booting on the Windows logo splash screen, when it has actually booted its fine and doesn’t feel sluggish. Does anyone else have any thoughts please? Thanks.

To be honest, if there is a weakness I would probably say it’s the smart product you’re integrating with.

In 2022 wouldn’t it be a good idea to have a redundant connections. I’m sure an on premise server would have redundancy?

Regardless of the usage it always goes via the VPN. Once that device is connected there is risk of attack.

You can’t expect someone to work for free for their old employer.

All our devices have a always on VPN. Whenever you content to a network it is automatically on in the background. The end user has no idea.m it’s even there.

Every network I have managed switches have always had their own dedicated VLAN and IP Range.

Have you configured a new subnet for the VPN? Maybe it needs adding somewhere in Smoothwall?

Is this an issue with some vlans or all of them? Do the same vlans work on the upstream Cisco switch the Netgear is connected to? Can you post a config of the uplink port on the Cisco please? Cheers.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't had too much time to look into this. However, I ran the below to reset the WMI repository. It fixed the search but everything else remains present. Winmgmt /resetrepository I will pick it up again next week. Thanks

Do you block informational websites in regards to other crimes such as car theft, fraud, cattle rustling just incase the kids decide they want to partake? If not then DDOS information shouldn’t be blocked either. In my opinion they should be all treated equally. If someone really wanted to do this, they would look it up on their own devices or at home. Blocking these sites might draw the attention that the IT teams aren’t fond of this topic…

My partner was impacted and she hasn’t been a customer of theirs for many years. What really gets me with this is that they weren’t hacked. They had made an API that was wide open to the internet with No Authentication!

It's not quite so simple. The server is running very specialist software, we are 1 of 5 in the country using it. Then the server will have to built to replicate (as much as possible) the live environment. I hadn't looked at it today, but I will look further using some of these suggestions. Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I have shifted the VM onto a completely different cluster on a completely different SAN at the other end of the city. Still no change. We have over 200 servers, I should image we would see bigger issues if there were issues with the storage. The 2 servers were built at the same time, it makes me steer more towards a software issue.

Hello, I have a strange issue that is impacting 2 2016 servers. I was hoping someone could advise. Issues we are seeing Very slow boot time, around 30 minutes being stuck on the Windows splash screen - The SAN it lives on is full of SSD's. Search doesn't work. Windows Updates do not install and fail. After being booted for a few days you cannot login with an error that the user profile service not running (although it is). A reboot clears it for a few days. Any command issued using PSexec from a remote computer results in "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service". Also install an industry specific application fails and throws the same error in it's installation log. LAPS won't install "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908." The server doesn't have any resource issues, plenty of disk space, CPU and RAM. The event log doesn't really show anything to note. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas please? Luckily the server is in a test environment so it's not causing too much disruption (only to testing). But it's going to a pain to simply rebuild it. Thanks

If you have a working device you can use this Powershell command to extract the drivers. Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination "C:\Folder"

You shouldn't be using the browser at all on a server. Best security is to have the internet blocked completely on a server. The exception is a terminal server.
