  2. Here's a skeleton of the vbs script we use with Group Policy: on Error Resume Next Set wshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") Printer1="\\server_name\printer_share_name" 'Deletes all network printers Set clPrinters = WshNetwork.EnumPrinterConnections On Error Resume Next For i = 0 to clPrinters.Count - 1 Step 2 wshNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection clPrinters.Item(i+1), true Next 'Sets up printers WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection Printer1 WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter Printer1 For the odd PC that needs to print to the same printer but can't be a member of the same group, we just put a shortcut to the script (stored on a server) into the "All Users->Programs->Startup" folder. This script should only delete and add network printers. Any local printers should not be affected. Script will also work with printers shared on PC's. For the laptops, the simplest option is probably to put a link on the All Users desktop to each VBS script. There are other, fancier selection options such as using DOS, VBS InputBox function or creating an HTA app with buttons. If you wish to use the machine name to decide which printers to connect to, then the script you found should give you pointers on how to go about it with VBS.
  3. One of our users has a strange sync problem with Outlook 2007 (on Exchange), latest ActiveSync and an iPaq. When he logs-in everything works, unread e-mails are sync'ed, but after that it doesn't. You can see the sync icon go on the iPaq but it doesn't retreive any new e-mails. I thought I'd fixed it by getting Outlook to recreate the OST file, and it worked for a while, new e-mails were sync'ed fine. But I've just had an e-mail from him saying it's stopped working again! Can anyone help? Thanks.

    USB Autorun

Have you tried: [autorun] open=filename.ppsx or if that doesn't work: [autorun] open="c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\POWERPNT.exe" /O File filename.ppsx Command-line switches for PowerPoint 2007 and the PowerPoint Viewer 2007

    Smartboard 660

I would've thought underneath the pen tray or on the back. There should be a sticker with model number and serial number. If the sticker is missing try the diagnostic tool. If I remember correctly, you open the smartboard control panel and then go to About/Tools (or something similar).
  7. Best Screencasting Tool: CamStudio - Screencast - Lifehacker
  8. To be on the safe side I would say no MP3/WMA etc should be stored on the network as you can't tell what's legit or not. An alternative is they use music under the Creative Commons licence: creative commons music - Google Search
  9. @jamesreedersmith: Crazy talk looks cool, I'll pass it on to the laptop owner see what they think of it. @Dom_: Just given it a go, but the Dell Webcam Center won't work with this laptop (Compaq). Though it looks quite good...
  10. Can anyone suggest any fun webcam software/websites for kids? Preferably free... I've been given a laptop with built-in webcam and asked if I can do something for an after-school club. Thanks.
  11. Sounds like Dr Seuss.
  12. On a side note: Scroll Clock Might need to run in compatability mode with IE8.

  14. Reasons why CD/DVD drives won't open: 1. No power 2. Data cable not plugged-in correctly 3. No rubber belt around the pulleys that open tray 4. Some little has shoved some coins in there If you use the paper clip, manually open tray and encounter resistance, then it's likely the belt has slipped. If there's no resistance, belt has completely come off the pulleys and has either been pinched or is sitting inside the drive. I've pulled a few drives to bits lately - quite easy to open really, as long as you open the tray first. If it's unfixable then I suggest you try removing the lens: Turn a DVD Lens into a Cellphone Macro Lens - Cameraphone - Lifehacker
  15. Sorry, should've pointed out that it's not for work. My sister needs a new laptop so Mom, Pops and I are going to chip-in for an early Xmas present.
  16. Looking for a decent Windows 7 capable laptop for around the £400 mark. Anyone got any suggestions?
  17. Not tried running setup.exe yet. Just checking if all the files have been "expanded", because I don't want to start installing and then just before the end find I have a file(s) missing! Can anyone who's succesfully expanded the Digital River download confirm how many files there should be?
  18. I've purchased Win7 through the academic offer, received the e-mails and downloaded the files. But whenever I try to expand the files I get the attached message. I've tried multiple times and re-downloaded the files. I have full rights on my PC, and the folder is definately not read only. I end up with an "expandedSetup" folder, details of which are: Size: 3.01 GB (3,239,836,668 bytes) Size on disk: 3.01 GB (3,241,648,128 bytes) Contains: 874 Files, 199 Folders Does this look correct? It may be that the files have completed expanding...
  19. One of my suggestions at the time to the party in question was publish to PDF then print. Should've posted that the guy phoned back later in the day to say he'd managed to sort it out. I didn't ask what he did, but he probably either printed from PDF or one of the things from the list below... Usual Office fixes I can remember doing in the past are: copy the contents of the document and paste into a new one delete Normal.dot change printer driver if all else fails, repair the installation I was going to do start doing the above if nobody had any ideas what was going on.
  20. How about this: WG ScreenSaver Creator Version 1.0 English language It's pretty basic, you can use images in a slideshow or flash. Only supports original size or stretch for images, which can be a bit of a pain with different monitor sizes.
  21. I'll see your portaloo, and raise you with mine! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPu5okuLEbY]YouTube - Japanese Toilet Prank[/ame] rad: to embed video, just use the "Insert Link" button and paste in the youtube URL. Preview to check it works.
  22. I think iTALC is your best bet for open source. I've never set it up as we have AB Tutor here, but search Edugeek - I think there's probably quite a few threads about it and possibly something in the Wiki.
  23. I've seen this problem on a board or two. For some strange reason, putting the eraser on it's side in the tray works...
  24. We have a few 2600n's running off our 2003 print server. Trick is to disable "Bidirectional Support", otherwise they won't print anything.
