Better to come in guns blazin' and mellow out, than start off weak and let them expect it. It's easier for staff to accept that you've relaxed, than accept that there are new rules... as you now know.

Just agree with them. "Yes, it IS my way or no way. I'm the Network Manager and I'm fixing problems the old guy created. One of those fixes is removing permissions that you shouldn't have."

Leave the echo and input requests visible, output the commands. For the things that just output "command completed", redirect a custom echo saying what it is as well. From the sounds of it, you don't need the echos in the logfile any way.

This is dumb... Google is just full of people asking how to use .AV files. Why use a file format you can't use? Best bet is to try the camera manufacturers and see what they say.
