Is anybody having problems logging in to Leicestershire's eis (http://eis.leics.gov.uk/)? We can log in using RM's transparent proxy proxy.rmplc.co.uk but it's very intermittent via our elderly RM smartcache. Not a browser issue, IE & FF both show same symptoms. Ta, Mat

I bought a big box of earplugs (100? 200? no idea) from a tool supplier years ago and use them for noisy diy jobs. They cost peanuts in bulk and are well worth it. Toolstation / screwfix are probably worth a look.

If it's Switched On Computing, it'll be Year 3 / 3.4 We are Network Engineers (!) and they'll be after ping, nslookup and traceroute commands. I gave them a link to putty which auto connected (ssh) to an old linux box with their username pre-entered so they just had to stick a password in. Staff / children just copied text from the putty box into a document for evidence. It also introduced them to the concept of operating a computer without being sat in front of it.

We've got some of the easi-headphones which are good but one or two pairs now have a very soft socket on the headphone itself - consistent with being knocked with a cable plugged in. One day I'll open a pair up and see how replaceable the sockets are.

That's interesting. I have a Smart UF75 with random black & white pixels on the display. They stay there regardless of source too. It's just out of it's 2 year warranty - I'm hoping they'll take pity on us, especially if it's a known fault.

In case anybody is searching for google classroom tips, here are mine (apols for any thread hijacking) - you need to be a member of a group in order to invite a groups members into a classroom. - groups are administered from both the admin console (admin.google.com) and the groups console (groups.google.com). To create groups and assign permissions, you need the admin console. To accept / reject join requests, it's the groups console. I think some functionality overlaps. There is no logic or order to this. I've yet to demo it to staff but classroom does look quite good.

Radio 4, Radio 4 followed by more Radio 4. Unless there's a play or some navel-gazing arts program (or anything featuring John Shuttleworth) on in which case it's Classic FM or Radio 3. I have become my Dad.

FTTC is great if you have a good connection from your street cabinet. If you like too far away (and "too far" is a variable variable used by telcos) or your copper connection to the cab is otherwise poor, you'll get mediocre speeds and no chance of anybody sorting it out. That's just my experience.

I agree, I am responsible for my driving. However, you don't have to spend long on the roads to see that there are a significant number of drivers with the mental capacity of a peanut and I don't think they do appreciate the nuances you describe. It's a drip-drip-drip of entitled damn-everybody-else attitude which does get through to people who don't care much for the consequences of their actions or the safety of others. Watch any police camera action show if you don't believe me. Sadly, I'm not sure there's much of a show in "Look how well I anticipate the situation ahead of me. I managed X miles per gallon on this trip and nobody was endangered by my actions" motoring.

I think somebody with the reach Clarkson has normalising the "I'm in a car so I should be able to drive as fast as I like, where I like - get out of my way" attitude doesn't help though. Along with the demonising of anybody not in a (preferably expensive) car - he's a godsend to the car industry.

What's the fault you're trying to fix? I ask as somebody with a UF75 with b&w speckles on the image - and it's out of warranty.

Looks rather like Scratch4Arduino to me. With slightly easier connections but without the Open Sores schematics & goodness.

You've got to keep pressing it if it doesn't work.

Today I learnt that 8Gb Kingston Datatraveller encrypted USB sticks have 2Gb of unencrypted space plus 6Gb encrypted. No prizes for guessing which part the teacher was using. I have had to explain to a number of people that if you don't have to enter a password to use it, it's not encrypted.

You might try running a penetration tester against your site - something like Owasp Zap. It should give you some idea where the vulnerabilities lie - and it's probably the kind of thing your attackers use.

I just had to whitelist office.com to get rid of the popups (in addition to the urls above).

I think Bosworth is one of those areas where anybody in a blue rosette gets voted in - Tredinnick has been mp there since 1987.

One more thing - your local Richer Sounds is likely to be staffed by people who study TVs like we study pc hardware. Always impressed by the service and knowledge levels in the Leicester branch.
