If I execute "find ${ocpath}/ -type f -print0" without first defining ocpath, find returns everything. You are then chmod'ing everything to 640 which makes all your commands non-executable. When you then try to use sudo (or chmod or chown), none of these are executable. There are a load of files which need to be made executable for the system to run - this will be a major job. If your /home drive is on a separate partition, it might be better to re-install. Good luck!

I'd suggest it's not worth the hassle of having a webserver at home. Go to digital ocean / aws / any one of a million providers and enjoy the greater reliability, connectivity and uptime of a proper server. Only a few £ pm now.

I'm still loving having to install a client program for a cloud based thing. Web interface? Nah, far too complex a job.

My schools both use it. It's ok bar - the bit where they want a command prompt to ping a few hosts. I direct them to putty (ssh) into a linux VM and use that. Gives them a nice little primer on networked computing too. - the year 6 stuff is bunk. Creating apps on mobile devices is waaaay beyond the capabilities of the kids and the apps / websites suggested are nowhere near good enough. Even if it was simplified enough, we don't have a load of mobile devices to use. Junior Computer Science | is worth a look.

Just publicising this because RM didn't bother. If your smartcache is using unfiltered.proxy.rmplc.co.uk or adslcache.proxy.rmplc.co.uk you may have noticed that your connection is filtered (at the 'child' level) regardless of what sites you've unblocked on your smartcache (eg youtube). To fix this, you need to change the upstream proxy on your smartcache to smartcache.proxy.rmplc.co.uk This is done by changing your smartcache.xml file and rebooting the smartcache. RM - try telling us about changes like this next time.

You're a bit off with your numbers. A quick play with excel suggests that 300 watts (on the high side, I know) * 8 hours per day * 5 days per week * 40 weeks per year = £72 at 15p / kWh. 24 hours per day comes out at £216 so there's a saving to be made, just not what you initially suggested. EDIT - unless you're talking about a school's worth of machines of course.

I have logged a call with RM asking them to get our smartcache to bypass its' cache for requests to https://lcceis.inthehive.net/ . I suspect there's groaning and straws being handed round in the support team right now.

That sounds like the same problem we have. Testing now, you can log in after a few attempts, and you stay logged in (I didn't try loads of pages). This is better than before, where you were logged out on pretty well every page request. When I finally got to speak to somebody knowledgeable at Capita (who host and maintain eis), they denied any knowledge of changes which may have caused this problem. Leicestershire CC direct you to Capita. We got around it by using the RM transparent proxy (proxy.rmplc.co.uk) which is unaffected. I suspect RM may have changed something but it'll be nigh impossible to prove it. May I ask who your isp is and which filtering system you're using?

Boards are hard work and easy to fall off. Buggys are easy and hard to fall out of. A 3m kite will be fun in moderate winds - and the hornet is buggyable. I hadn't noticed them getting so spendy though - nearly £400 inc lines & handles!

If your employer requires stuff moved between sites, why are you expected to buy them a car??

I built a kite buggy a few years ago and used it to tear up & down beaches in Lincolnshire and in big local parks. My 3m Flexi Blade was good but made too much lift for a buggy kite. I had 2.2m, 3.2 and 4.2m Peter Lynn C-Quads (still got the 4.2 I think) which were superb buggy kites, really fast and very responsive. Got over 40mph on a the 2.2 on a wild day at Pendine, Wales - it feels more like double that when your backside is about 6in from the sand. Get a buggy and some traction kites, it's ace fun.

Question for casio projector owners (just in case we manage to find the £s) - some of the Epson projectors have a great keystone adjustment where you just pull the corners of the image to the corners of the projection surface. Do the fancy Casio projectors have anything similar? Due to crummy cages which are offset relative to the screen, wonky images are the bane of my life here. Thanks Mat
