Migrate from FirstClass to any other email client!
MicrodigitUK replied to mtillbrook's topic in Cloud Services
There are free tools that can migrate mail direct from one server to another using IMAP. One I have used in the past several times is IMAPcopy. IMAPcopy -
The other option is the com.apple.MCX.sidebar preference manifest. You can use smb:// URLs to your/their network home folder.
-
To do this from scratch: You will want to log in as a user who is going to get the managed preference, and manually configure the Sidebar. Then log into an Admin account and connect to that user's home folder (who has the configured Sidebar), open Workgroup Manager, and add this file... YourNetworkUser/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist ...to the managed preferences list for your User/Group/ComputerList. Putting these preferences under "Often" if you use "Always" it will brake as it can't merge with existing sidebar list.
-
Yes, I beleve this will also work under UserGroups.
-
I use GLPI - Gestionnaire libre de parc informatique and OCS plugin.
-
What I ended up doing was to use one computer to macke the home share visabul in sidebar copy the corect plist (com.apple.sidebarlists.plist) and then push out the changes via MCX. It’s not perfect but it works. Run the following in Terminal on your server using the attached Plist from the zip and changing the group to apply it to in WGM. dscl -u DIRADMIN -p /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 mcximport /ComputerGroups/YOURMACGROUP com.apple.sidebarlists.plist com.apple.sidebarlists.zip

@Admiral208 Are you talking about the House icon on the left? http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2012/10/12/PrivateNetworkShare4.png If so, this was automatic for networked home shares up until 10.7 when it was removed but you could still manuly make it visabull. Another Apple idea to make things simpler for your average user!!!! But that sead I do have a hack to bring it back via WGM for 10.7 and 10.8. I will try and export it next week from work and post what I did.

Windows 7, Office 2010, Moodle and credentials: help
MicrodigitUK replied to sonofsanta's topic in Windows 7
I think its the NTLM authentication?? Looking at the Smoothwall logs Office 2010 is trying to download the documents as the computer and not the user. But when user hits cancel it then gets downloaded by IE as the user. Using Kerberos authentication seems to let office 2010 authenticate with Smoothwall. But we can’t use Kerberos authentication because of issues with Java on websites and the Citrix Receiver. I’m now looking at scraping both NTLM and Kerberos auth to Smoothwall and trying out Ident authentication. -

Windows 7, Office 2010, Moodle and credentials: help
MicrodigitUK replied to sonofsanta's topic in Windows 7
Sorry to bring this thread back up. I have exactly the same issue with all Word and Excel links in IE. I am running IE10, Windows 7, Office2010 and Smoothwall proxy with NTLM authentication. Did you find a solution to this? -
How to set up a MAC server for 11 workstations in a school

Did you get this fixed? I set it up originally when it was on Live@Edu before O365. Give me a shout via PM if you haven't already fixed it.
-
Your proxy must support and be set to use 'Kerberos Proxy Authentication' for this to work.

We have a card printer but no software just for cards. We do have about 4 SIMS reports to print student and staff cards direct from SIMS.net. One report dose tutor group batches, another for individual student cards etc...Use cards for MFD print release, cashless catering and library cards.

Exchange Online IMAP migration failing for some users
MicrodigitUK replied to randle's topic in Cloud Services
In the past I have used this little application to move mailboxes via IMAP. Gives some good logs but you must know, or temporary set passwords on both source and destination for all accounts copied. http://home.arcor.de/armin.diehl/imapcopy/imapcopy.html -
Redirecting emails from old provider to Office 365
MicrodigitUK replied to themightymrp's topic in Cloud Services
The email will be rejected by Microsofts servers because it's not coming from the original senders servers or an accepted relay server. Security or you could pretend to be any email address. But mail from your old server with the old email address will get through because it is an excepted server to be sending from that particular email address. What you need to do is add the IP address of your old exchange server to the list of excepted mail relay servers allowed to relay all mail to your 365 setup. This I think is done as an admin in Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) as part of your 365 setup. -
RM are currently are reselling HP or EMC SANs. Personally I would go for the EMC VNXe SANs. Nice bits of kit and very fast. Perfect for a Secondary school and very expandable. But they are a bit more of an expenses compared to the HP range on offer from RM. Get RM to come out and advise if you have a CC4 contract. Cutter Project is where I got my 2 VNXe 3100s from. Cutter Project are on here somewhere and have given me relay good advice on SANs in the past.

PSA: DirSync & Password Sync now available for Office 365
MicrodigitUK replied to jamesbmarshall's topic in Cloud Services
Excellent news. About time and thanks for posting update on edugeek. Shame this wasn't ready last week when lots of people started live@edu migrations in the holidays. All we need now is the old live@edu 4.5 SSO kit extended for new Office365 customers and small schools (that can't do ADFS) will have a full solution. What are the possibilitys of that @jamesbmarshall ? It's a shame 4.5 SSO kit was only extended to December 2014. So still need to move to ADFS at some point before then. Mabey with a bit of luck Microsoft will extend that support and add in support for new educational 365 customers. Never say never. -
@FragglePete have a chat with Chris from Cutter Project @Duke . He knows his stuff when it comes to SAN's and unified storage. Also he is local to you...

Free help desk setup here. GLPI and OCS inventory. Only tricky part was configuring it for staff to understand. Stripping back the interface to basic input fields. GLPI dose also generate tickets via email by watching a mailbox. Has all the things a school needs like AD integration. But one downside is most oh the GLPI documentation is in French.

30 Dell Latitudes all on 2.4Ghz sounds high. Have you thought of using 5Ghz band. E.g my laptop trolley of 30 has one 7962 and the laptops are 50/50 split 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and works fine. Bit of a pain to get our Wi-Fi configurations script to split the two groups but once done you see the difference.

Office 365 with SSO availability question
MicrodigitUK replied to themightymrp's topic in Cloud Services
It was on the Education Partner Network. The Partner Readiness Guide October 2012. see link: https://www.mseducommunity.com/Products/Documents/Live@edu_O365_Upgrade_PartnerReadinessGuide_Final.docx.docx If it does work (supported or not), together with the new Live@edu SSO Toolkit for Office 365 we can finally have a smooth transition to Office365. Not exactly going to ring up Microsoft support if PCNS stop working! Worst case scenario is a reinstall of DirSync to put it back to the defaults to be supported. Anyway RM Unify has PCNS and is based on Windows Azure Active Directory just like Office 365. So if a Partner like RM is allowed to do it why can’t Microsoft support PCNS for end users? It’s not fair . If you know what you are doing why should we Pay people like RM for something we can do for free. We are rebuilding the school domain and main internal server infrastructure this summer, so didn’t want ADFS as it could get knocked out at any point. But will move to ADFS after September. Just needed a solution for the interim and now have one! -
Office 365 with SSO availability question
MicrodigitUK replied to themightymrp's topic in Cloud Services
Thanks for that. I found this in an official Microsoft document (for Office365 partners) that I think answers my question, regarding Password Change Notification Services. see screen shot from my Phone: Also regarding the old live@edu SSO kit, I found this very interesting. Single sign-on - Upgrade to Office 365 - Office 365 - Microsoft Office 365 Community Basically the old live@edu SSO kit has been extended until December 31, 2014 and modified to work with Office 365. BUT changes must be made to the SSO Toolkit to maintain single sign-on access. Just like they did back when the Legacy Live@edu SSO URL was shut down and people had to patch Live@Edu SSO with changes.
