Hi all, Been tasked to look into upgrading & updating our local storage systems. currently have a 2x Dell 2950/NF500 Powervaults which are due for replacement 1x NX3200 (purchased within the last 2 years) currently just using them for "flat file & share storage" Thinking that a JBOD Unit would attached to the NX3200 + storage spaces would be the way to go for flexibility cost and performance, there are some old thread relating to people using such a set up so looking for information on: Hardware Used Environment it is used in Pro's and Cons on what you have used and experiences. feel free to PM me if you wish. thanks

we use it on 2012r2 and i have done some testing on w10 clients and it does work, start menu behavior is a little odd on the 1st login when it populates the menu in front of you. not a massive issue imo and most people wouldnt notice but for 2012r2 and 7 its fine.

if the product still works for you why the need to change (unless there is a security issue with the product), the features that you describe we also like but are moving alot of the security controls over to GPO but still using the realtime monitoring etc.

i had this issue on a stand alone laptop when manually mapping drives, fine in command prompt not showing in Explorer.. weird issue on a surface running 10 pro 1607

so just signing up for an Azure account is all that is required and then create accounts for people to login to the store

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice, we are getting increasing numbers of Windows based devices which in the past we have setup on our domain and then linked a microsoft account to (which was created with an email alias username@schoolemailaddress, which give them access to Windows Store for the specific application that they have been brought for. This has been fine however recently Windows 8 and 10 prevent you from registering new accounts with "a business or education address" which is a move to force the use of O365 etc. We already use O365 to provide licenses for software for staff and students but nothing else as email is provided via exchange Doing some reading around the issue it looks like our problems would be solved by Using Windows Store for business / education, my rough idea of how this works is Local AD selected Users --> Azure AD -->O365 --> Store The process they describe on the Site for it all looks nice and straight forward but we dont have any infrastructure in the cloud as such at the moment advice & pointers welcome

i had something similar where i disabled SNMP on the printer and my 2008r2 printer server insisted the print Q was offline, i believe the print Q default communication is SNMP apparently, enabled SNMP and the Q's woke up. i didnt investigate the issue further as didnt have time at the time

i would have assumed the 2012r2 for windows 10 would have done the trick regardless of LTSB version date unless they are mucking about with it, apologies if i came across as telling you to suck eggs

No i have one KMS host key installed which at the time is / was Server2012R2&windows 10. this is a class B key iirc which means it will activate 2012R2 Windows 10 and versions of windows below that to a point. the Windows 10 LTSB KMS key will only activate Windows 10 clients (possibly only LTSB without looking at the specifics of that key) and ones below it like 8.1 8 7 which is how KMS always used to work and in my experience is still the case MS published a document which explains what the different KMS key types activate (at the time THIS was what i referred to )

I have a server 2012R2 & Windows 10 KMS key installed on my 2008 KMS server and it activates for our domain laptops& computers ok. for workgroup stuff you might need to manually set the KMS host and port using SLMGR.VBS on the laptop if it doesnt pick up the service location from DNS.

i install certain bits of software in my image before capturing like Office and a couple of core applications, i just navigate to the share on my server where the install media is and authenticate (using a domain account) and install as needed. other options would be GPO or adding applications as part of the deployment process in MDT (using selection profile would spring to mind its not something i have used to install applications with) In my experience adobe CS products dont like the sysprep process much anyway?

we are still using 15K mechanical drives, id suggest running some performance logging to see if you are hitting "100%" anywhere before sinking money into something which might not make alot of difference at the user end

we are in a school which uses SIMS alot and have other bits plugging into it and to be honest it isnt really CPU taxed (using 16GB RAM 6.5GB MDF) this is where x64 OS's start to make sense for things like SQL. what type of storage is it running on

for the version i am running its not a role/feature WDS is, MDT installs like a "normal" application

well it sounds like MDT is being used to me from what you have described. assume you have a screen which looks like MDT while a little work gives you more flexibility if you have different machines and software config's over WDS imo

in the deployment workbench (on the sever with MDT on which is likely the same as your WDS) in the task sequences you can enable and disable which ones are view able in the lite-touch deployment section. I would agree with you assumption the WDS section is just being used to handle PXE booting and sending the MDT boot file to the clients as needed. what version of MDT are you running?

updates i found when downloading them directly from windows update required the proxy to be set and the winhttp proxy to be set otherwise it says you have updates but then fails to download them. change the winhttp proxy value and it springs into life. but for WSUS enabled clients i dont see this being as issue unless the client still insists on checking something with MS 1st

maybe remove the built in driver from the image so it has no choice but to use the driver you are selecting?

could you not use a selection profile in MDT to point at the specific driver for that machine rather than relying on PnP selection? something i have been looking at to get over some annoying realtek sound driver issues...

Stone computers sell PSU's for their cases which look very much like that. the newer versions done have the bit on the end sticking out.

raised a ticket with capita but thought i would put this here to see if others have feedback as i just get this feeling that something isnt quite right. Have a query regarding discover updating process. we are currently running the Summer 2016 release for SIMS & Discover (SIMS 7.170 & Discover 7.170.5) A machine which had a problem with Discover was redeployed (from the check for update button on the client) SOLUS has installed a later version of Discover (the Autumn release) How is it doing this if I have not deployed the Autumn release update to the server (the autumn update has been downloaded to the server but not deployed) As I understand an update can be downloaded via solus but it is not available to clients until I have triggered the update process as we have auto upgrades turned off am i getting the wrong end of the stick?
