I made this toolkit in python. There's also the instructions on how to get the data out of purview using keyql browolf/Subject-Access-Requests-from-Microsoft-Copilot-365: Describes how to reliably extract and redact data from Microsoft Purview

so in the end. SWGFL said their discount price is only available for SW schools. I guess that is the same deal that Lancashire originally had. Also because we already had a quote from a different vendor, Phoenix could not give us a quote. However then it transpired because we are in an academy trust we can get an academy pricing quote which isn't quite as good as the Education Authority price but was still half the cost of the original quote. We have gone forward with that through Phoenix

I have downloads music and videos redirected to the old pupil server but no storage limit - we're using so little of the san now that it doesn't matter...oh apparently it takes up 42GB - might have a looksee with fileseek 😅

We just got this because the ico cybersecurity audit we had requires some kind of patch management. Actually pretty reasonable about 950 for 220 devices. We're only putting it on servers and staff machines Easy enough to deploy. I made a better powershell install script that logs events Roboshadow/install.ps1 at main · lsahighITsupport/Roboshadow

Subject Access Request Emails
browolf replied to Bankesy's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
i used pff-tools to extract the pst and then made some python scripts to handle redaction. In metadata you can easily just remove from/to lines and any other email address. The last part is the data officer has to look through the message files for any other names that need redacting and add them to file and run a word redaction script but I can probably automate that to some degree with a lookup file of names. I wrote all the instructions and files at https://github.com/browolf/Subject-Access-Requests-from-Microsoft-Copilot-365/tree/main -
Been looking at bitdefender which is similar but the price is per device and doesn't distinguish servers. I like the portal.
-
Turns out this one is only valid for the south west of england. I guess they have the same terms as LCC had, for their region.
-
I'm in this situation because Lancashire are dropping sophos for the basic defender!
-
I emailed them on friday but not heard back yet.
-
We originally had it through LCC with a massive discount but they are switching to defender and we want to stick with Sophos or an alternative. The SEGfL price is pretty similar to what we've already been quoted but the company want us to either pay 3 years upfront or lease them through another party - is that the same everywhere?

it's probably a good time to seriously look at offloading server functions into the cloud. After the last server refresh we insisted all staff data needs to go in onedrive so although we still have a lot of VMs they're all services and little data so much so we're now only using 16% of the san 😳 We're on 2 nodes but have more types of backups but in the future a new SAN definitely won't be worth it

we're using 4matrix for things relating to exams - maybe it does what you want too

Microsoft: We’re deprecating Office A1 Plus EDU licenses
browolf replied to chazzy2501's topic in Cloud Services
There was some weirdness over half term where some people's A1 plus licenses were de-assigned but it let me put them back. We have 75% on A3 licenses. I made sure everyone else has the A1 and the A1 Plus license assigned. I haven't been reading the Microsoft notices for a while so I haven't seen any updates. What does it mean by reactived -
check out this forecast of ai progress https://ai-2027.com/

ours are still there -
Anyone know how much this costs? We're looking into it - it looks decent for managing critical incidents - but nowhere on the website does it mention the cost.

Single Central Record Ltd- Data Breach
browolf replied to AndyCrow's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
The company that our school have a contract with is "Single central record Ltd". They use another company called "Access Personal Checking Services (APCS)" to do the actual DBS checks. But many news articles only mention APCS and the software they use made by Intradev was where the breach happened reportedly. https://www.theregister.com/2025/08/22/apcs_breach/ -
Microsoft: We’re deprecating Office A1 Plus EDU licenses

I only found out last week from a 365 update message. I read somewhere they were being discontinued on the 2nd September but they're still there in our tenant at the moment. I've had to rearrange a bunch of people onto a1 as we only have 150 a3 licenses for 220 staff.... -

just seen this on reddit as well 😧 -
People don't use sims much directly as we have Synergy but I think they still use it for reports. Since the last sims update, staff are coming to me with the classic error "incompatible database" but they have the solus client that is no longer connected to the server. I found this error on the server: "warning - an unknown agent on this machine has attempted contact". anyone seen this before? I couldn't find it on the ess now parentpay site.

1 dual processor hpe server with 240Gb ram, the old datto server with 64Gb ram. A xeon workstation with 64Gb ram & an nvidia GPU. Ollama installs for whatever is available but the xeon workstation is fastest on responses because of the GPU.
-
I built ourselves an ai cluster on old servers. Partly as a challenge and also so ICT can teach ai without worrying that platforms change or limit access ruining their lessons. It uses Open web ui and nginx as a reverse proxy to 3 servers running llama3.2:1b on ollama.
-
Apparently it's a condensed version of Deepseek that people are running themselves. Also with the llama 1b model you can expect approx 3Gb ram use per user or various quantized versions that use less ram
-
I don't think it would need too much power to run a useful GPT for a few staff and that way you don't have to worry about GDPR issues. I have ollama and open web Ui running on an old server with 1Bill param model and it's not terrible for chat and administrators can view chats. https://community.hetzner.com/tutorials/ai-chatbot-with-ollama-and-open-webui If you could afford a xeon workstation with a few GPUs from @ictdirect I reckon it might even stretch to Deepseek. (i heard you can run it on an 7 mac mini EXO cluster) https://github.com/exo-explore/exo
