First hope this is in the right place, I have very little to do with SIMS as it is maintained by the LEA. However we have got 2 new servers in one is a DC for the curriculum and another which is dedicated to office staff. On the office server I have 2012R2 installed as a hyper-V then I have a VM that again has 2012R2 installed. All I have done is give it a static IP set its name and made to partitions one for the office shared files and one for SIMS. We are getting them in to install SIMS and update the client PC's next week. I have been asked to change some firewall settings Define inbound port exceptions. 52965:TCP:*:Enabled:SOLUS 3 Deployment Server 52966:TCP:*:Enabled:SOLUS 3 Agent 8739:TCP:*:Enabled:SOLUS 3 Agent Notifier UI Allow inbound remote administration exception. Enter: C:\Windows\System32\wbem\unsecapp.exe:Enabled:.NET Proxy for DCOM (WMI). Sorry for been a bit thick but is this done on the SIM's VM the host or the client PC's ? The client PC's are a workgroup so I would have to do this individually

End user experience... See there's services that are offered that will appeal to both businesses and schools like 'network support' but which are irrelevant to home users along the same line of 'after school code club' is of no use to businesses. So is it better to say if your this sector click here and go to like a sub-site that is relevant just for them Schools would get a list of :Code club , Network support, e-learning etc. Home users would get: Computer repair, Virus removal etc Or like the second one list everything. I'm torn as I can see the merits in both

I asked on another forum but didn't get any replies so will ask here. Is it best to have the home page with a bit of info then for example 3 column content section (similar to Foundation Template | Orbit Home ) with each of them been for a certain sector like home, business , education. So that the user can click on there type and then see the services available to them OR List everything you do on the homepage with links to read more a little bit similar to TRAVIS NEILSON .COM @ TN What's your thoughts?

Someone on here must have done this. I am trying to kill two birds with one stone. Our current email is a bit of a mess we have [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Which is an absolute nightmare when trying to give out peoples emails. So we have had enough also the school.lea makes it a really long domain so we have purchased a school.org.uk ending . I have spoken to Google and we can add this new domain as a secondary domain then change it to be the primary domain. Has anyone done this and is there any thing to be careful of Cheers Matt

Have a new Lenovo thinkpad edge that has been out to a teacher for maybe 2 weeks to be returned, When ever any key on the QWERTYUIOP line is pressed lots of random q's are outputted. Had the key off and squirted it with compressed air, any simple fixes before I start a warranty claim Cheers

So over Summer we transferred our Curriculum server to a new physical server running server 2012R2 and Hyper V so now our curriculum is a VM ( its also the DC ) I am fine and happy with that. Currently I am backing it up with Veeam Back up and Replicate 8 FREE edition which as I now understand it just backs up the VM I can't granularly restore anything... its back up the entire VM and Restore the entire VM?? So if the VM becomes corrupt I take it this would be a good back up... but not if teachers want to get lost files ect else I would have to revert everything to the day before? I have a copy of accronis 11 somewhere from the old server. Also I have another physical server with 2012R2 installed ... this one is to be used for admin to host Sims and the office files. So just a file share and a Sims share. Currently the office staff just log on to the their pc's locally and are not part of the domain. I would like to keep this the same with the new set up. Would you create a VM on this server to do all that so I could use Veeam free to back up or would you just leave it as a physical server? Then what would be your back up plan. Sims we would have backed up offsite with oakford and the files are not that large. Cheers

It is however Ranger creates them?? how would you go about re-sharing the folder? The way I have tried is right click properties sharing > advanced sharing Tick in share this folder. Permissions remove everybody and added the new username with allow all. This works However if i go in to start and search i can type \\dc\newuser and the folder appears in the search ( I cant get access unless im that person) but none of the other folders appear in the search. I can go in properties and hide the folder BUT none of the other home Drives are hidden on the server ( but yet dont appear in the search)

Normally when someone gets married they are happy with just there log on and display name been changed there not to fussed about their home drive. However the head wants there homedrive changing to reflect their name. I have gone in to AD renamed them changed the display name and log in. This is fine. I have then found the home drive right clicked and renamed ... then in home Folder connect H: \\dc\%username% I get the error. The home folder could not be created because : The network name cannot be found ? Do I need to do anything with sharing? I have also gone in and set the connect h: \\dc\hardcodedusername and no luck. Im trying this on a test account to start with

As Anthony said... Great themes can get pulled to bits and look rubbish if the content is not right. Half my battle is getting content from people then you get the other argument of well the school colour is Red ( its nearly always a god awful primary colour) so the site has to be that colour.

I do web design and used wordpress for all the schools I have done... Its easy for them to then update and do what the like with. I use Vidahost for hosting the site its not that expensive and saves all the hassle of internal hosting. PM Incoming

Thanks both, Looking back I have only ever shared stuff from the server before which has worked no problem. Just checked @Steve21 in the Target path I have a space above is a typo as I typed it all out. Changed it from desktop to startmenu will see if that has any effect/

Am I been really thick here. Been on a hour trying to share a shortcut to desktop. Currently all the computers have scratch installed but there is no shortcut on the desktop should be simple? GP > user config > Preferences > windows settings > shortcuts > new shortcut Action set to create Name: Scratch Target type : File System object Location: Desktop Target path: C:\Program Files(x86)\Scratch\Scratch.exe Arguments: (empty) Start in : C:\Program Files\Scratch Shortcut Key: None Run: Normal Window Comment: (empty) not working GpResult gives Result:Failure (error Code: 0x80070002) I have done similar to deploy things to the start menu

I have a staff iPad that they want some photos taking off. Easy enough ? Plug it in a computer, trust then open the folder and away we go? No This worked last week I have been told but today the ipad in not showing the trust/dont trust pop up on any computer. Id did appear in my computer as ipad and then let you click on internal storage >and then the DCIM but it said the folder was empty 0 bytes. It clearly isnt. I have updated the ipad to 8.4.1 still no help only this time i only get Apple ipad > Internal Storage no DCIM folder Any ideas?

Scenario is Admin and head computers are standalone in a workgroup and they log on locally. And we have a curriculum server that the rest of the school use. I need to put a folder on the server that I can share with the heads computer and only the head... just so its in the proper backup task. How would I go about this. as the head logs on to their computer local and doesnt have a domain user account. Is it a case of creating a folder sharing it with admin then going to her computer and just mapping a drive or is there a better way

Just installing this now on both my host and hyper-v server is there any exclusions I need to add its just a vanilla network and no Sims on there yet. Am I Ok just using the default template but turning off deepscan

Hi I am not using a managed desktop yet, just letting the users, use the default desktop for now. However I need to share 2 shortcuts with all users one is a internet page and the other is a shortcut to the sherston megapack that is located on the server. Whats the correct way of doing this? Slightly confused as not done this for ages... I have gone in to sysvol/mydomain and created a folder called PolicyDefinitions in there I have the windows 10 admx stuff, which is getting picked up by Group policy management. I have downloaded the files for office 2010 and done the same but when it comes to adding a new template its only picking up the adm files not the admx files ??

Processors was set to 1... I think I have 24 if i click above 12 it says i this virtual machine is configured with the following Sockets:2 NUMA nodes per socket:1 Virtual processors per NUMA node: 12 Memory per NUMA node :22824MB Any ideas *first time at virtualisation

Host Server DNS is set to BT's DNS server. Virstual server is using itself as the DNS and alternative is BT's Clients are set to pick up automatically. I have a feeling it could be somethig to do with the virtual switch

Cheers, restarted server and it seams to be slightly quicker. I know the first time they log in will take longer due to creating the profile but what would should it be after that? I only have GP redirecting Documents,Downloads,Favorites,Music,Pictures and videos Cheers

Just put in a server 2012R2 as the only server so Domain controller its running in hyper-v When clients come to log on it it takes an age... Where should I start looking first?
