Also got offered a hob nob by I think @Little-Miss but she seamed shy?

Is there any free of cheep software that I could run that would map my network for me or is it a case of walk around with a clipboard and sketch whats attached to each switch? How would I go about connecting to the HP Switches I cant seam to find there ip's and I dont know how to connect to the console is there some management software that would make it easier? Basically Im trying to take the network I inherited ( which works ) and start to make it bend to my will Thanks in advance

@fiza I have it in both my schools, got it when I didn't know much about networking but to move the schools away from the clutches of RM, then Ranger got bought out a few months after We to are looking at moving to a vanilla network. Ranger proves that you dont need CC3/4 to work and I think the next logical step is to move to just windows

I have the following .bat file that I run at start up. It SHOULD monitor LANRanger , restart it if its crashed/not running and report to a log file. ( I have tested it only by quitting lanranger it works) but i cant simulate a crash as they happen very infrequently but when they do no one can log on. I have noticed that on both my servers the scrip runs fine. Then after a time the window has disappeared. Any ideas? echo[/mention] OFF REM 1. Call DOS tasklist and extract the EXE (image) names and then FIND taskmgr.exe in that list. REM ** YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPECIFY THE FULL PATH/FILENAME OF THE EXE HERE. tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq LanRanger.exe" 2>NUL | find /I /N "LanRanger.exe">NUL REM 2. IF taskmgr.exe is running then just echo that it is running to the console app (you can remove this line if you prefer). if "%ERRORLEVEL%"=="0" echo Lan Ranger is running REM 3. IF taskmgr.exe is NOT running then start it. REM ** YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SPECIFY THE FULL PATH/FILENAME OF THE EXE HERE IN ORDER FOR IT TO START. if %ERRORLEVEL% GEQ 1 @echo The Program Lan Ranger>> RANGERFAILLOG.txt if %ERRORLEVEL% GEQ 1 @echo FAILED AT %TIME% , %DATE% >> RANGERFAILLOG.txt if %ERRORLEVEL% GEQ 1 START "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranger\LanRanger.exe" REM 4. We now invoke PING against the local machine loopback IP (127.0.0.1) a few times to provide a simply delay mechanism between EXE checks. PING 127.0.0.1 -n 15>NUL REM 5. Repeat the process from the beginning. CALL ProcessMonitor.bat

Just wondered if anyone used Jade for making websites, not web apps just static sites? Is it made to cut down on like zen coding (emmit?) or have i got it wrong? Also is it a case of making a jade file then running it through the processor and using the output html as the production version or do you use the jade file? Cheers

Been thinking about this for a while. I look after 2 schools and have remote desktop connection running in both of them. I also have a Remote Utilities installed at home and on my work pc's at both places so in theory I can use Remote Utility to get on to my work pc then from there I can use remote desktop connection to connect to and work pc or server. Now Remote Utilities allows you to connect with full control, execute a command, open up terminal do an inventory, file transfer, remote registry and RDC. It allows 10 remote computers for free, so my question is even if i get more schools on-board I could install it the same there so I can get into the network from the outside then use RDC inside. I cant see really when you would use the extra features. Or to put it a different way what would I not be able to do with the way I have it set up now, am I missing something?

Basically its going to be a fresh start. so 2 boxes 4 servers for everything.
-
Im assuming htis is the right place to put this. Looking for some views on this. I am in possession of 2 servers both identical specs. I am going to visualise them got licencing for 2 copies of server 2012 which entitles me to 2 virtual servers per box. At the moment we have 1 Server that does everything DHCP/DNS/AD and File storage. And a local pc that we run SIM's on. Plan is to take Sims off the pc and put it on a server. So would you you keep one box for education and one box for admin/sims or how would you do it. scenario 1 BOX 1 vm1 = Sims vm2 = SCCM or WDP/WUD BOX 2 vm1 = education AD/DHCP/DNS Fileserver vm2 = clone of VM1 Scenario 2 vm1 = sims vm2 = copy of sims BOX 2 vm1 = AD/DHCP/DNS Filesever all for STAFF vm2 = Split AD etc for STUDENTS or something like Scenario 3 Box 1 vm 1 = AD/DHCP/DNS vm2 Sims Box 2 vm1 = AD/DHCP/DNS vm2 = something else
