Need to plum in a new interactive projector and got this trunking could I get the connectors to fit in there or would it be better just putting it in a box above?

@bossman I'm guessing this is doable. Is it possible to remove Eset from some computers and install Avast on them, while running Eset on the remainder as a trial, thats not going to break things? Also how does the updates work? Does each client have to connect to the internet, download the update then install or is it like Eset ( should work if set up correctly ) that it down loads somewhere on the server and then gets deployed locally ( so just using local bandwidth?)

Avast Business?!? I trialled Vipre a year or so ago it looked good, but it was a bit of a pain to get running with Ranger, if it had worked then Id have gone with it. Ended up wit ESET in the end,

[Hosting] Let me know if any questions - Vidahost
MattDLEA replied to vidahost's topic in Web Development
I'm no way affiliated with Vidahost. I do however use them for all my hosting of websites and have found them to be very reliable and really quick with tech support -
Im busy spec'ing out a new server set up for us, I'm busy getting hardware costs etc. But I was talking to my mate who works as a software dev and he was saying the company he works for is moving everything to the cloud and how it works for them. So has anyone moved there set up totally into the cloud. AWS or Azure? From what I can see the school currently is over spec'ed but on aging hardware so an upgrade is needed. There will be 1000 users but only 150 clients in school at one time and I'm guessing normal useage will be about 60-70 and maybe peak at 100. As we are a primary there is now much we do to be honest. Basically I think we would need a DC , a File server with lots of space and a MIS system so as anyone done this? We have a 100Mb line. Other then the line going down is there any draw backs?

Sims could be visualized but the LEA do that so it would be me provisining a server and letting them get on with it. Its more of how many servers do i need how do i spec cpu's and Ram etc

I have been asked to look at installing a network from fresh. So new curriculum servers, etc. Is there a dummies guide to of how to do this? I Know the number of users. I know the number of clients Pc and I know the number of devices that could connect via wifi. I will be wanting to go the hyper-v route. Im thinking 2 or 3 physical servers. 1 for Sims then the other 2 to do all the curriculum stuff What do I need to know and think about before going back?

I have been handed an iPad that just brings up the apple logo for 10-15 seconds then goes black then repeats. Had a google about but holding down the volume button does nothing (youtube clips). I have managed to plug into mac and get it to look like it can be restored, but I dont want to do that yet if theres a way to get it done with out loosing the data. Anyone else had this problem?

Can I ask a question of Impero users here. I have just looked at their website, watched the trailer and read a few articles. But I'm unsure over its value. Is it supposed to replace CC3/4 Ranger etc? Basically the filtering and e-safety is done by smoothwall for us. - so not really needed Computer usage / print usage / power usage is not important in the grand scheme of things. - not needed Packages I tend to deploy via GP and msi. User creation I can do in AD So is there any real worth in this product for our situation? I can see how remote monitoring may be useful but not really for our kids. What I think im asking is from a Network manager / tech point is there any benefits ? Cheers

Yeah thats what it was kind of described as. Kind of like they could go in and get the data without changing things like timestamps etc. But there was a specific name for the person

Just wanting to know what its called, a few years a go I went to a conference run by our grid about broadband. Basically they said that and I'm paraphrashing that they would be the named contact for ( i cant remember the name) but basically it was if something happened on the network and the police was involved they would handed it all i.e providing all the information that the police wanted and not giving them what they didnt ask for. Also that they had been trained up in these procedures. I cant remember what that role was called. Basically we are looking to move providers and we want to know all the repercussions of moving away from the grid. Obviously a filtering system to replicate the smoothwall we have now is one. But more specific if there is anything else we have missed

Just looking for some opinions on Noise Cancelling Headphones, I've never used them or even tried them. However after the next holidays or at the very latest after summer one of my work cupboards will be in the back of a classroom, at the moment its an IT suite. And in this room ( small cupboard) I'm going to have to have the door shut more obviously, but I will also have to HP rack servers running. I have powered them up a few times and they are more noisy then the tower I have at the moment. So would noise cancelling headphones work in this situation?

So my woe of poor broadband / wifi and iPads goes on. I have 1 ipad that in school says that the wifi password is wrong - it isn't ( tried re entering it, reset network settings, restarting the ap didn't work either) although the other devices are fine. Also i have about 8 ipad mini's that are just saying unable to connect to network? Any one else had similar problems? Thanks

Trying to install a OS on our new servers. However there is no CD-ROM. I have the ISO and a USB stick. bit of goggling offers a few programs, which do you recommend that doesn't come with nasty bits of malaware attached ?

I have beasts of machines from @ictDirect-Dave ( one in each of my schools) and even one at home

I'm trying to rule out a switch problem or more a do we need to upgrade question. As far as I'm concerned the network is running fine. Wired wise I can see no issues as such. Its just the Wifi that is causing problems. But I have a guy onto that. I have attached a simple network diagram, as far as I am aware they are all 1000mb switches except the 2650 and 2626 ( is this correct? ) and these 2 switches have very little coming off them. I'm just wondering if there is anything there that will cause network issues ( wifi ) or if the core infrastructure is ok and its a AP issue. NO VLANS

So is anyone using this as a solution yet?
