Cant find the tread now but I need to install Sims on my PC now, normally the LA install it on the 3 computers that its on when they first set it up. I can see the set up folder on the sims server can anyone walk me through what I need to do. Cheers

Just wondered if there are any sims hosted users on here? I'd like to talk about costs. I know there is the annual fee to Capita for hosting and then a bit extra a year for additional users. Licencing and annual agreements to out LA. But do you pay anyone support contracts?

@snagrat so is that just like a base windows install and thats it?

For people that dont use SCCM. How do you image? Currently I use clonezilla taking an full disk image of a pc that has all the programs on, go to pc that needs imaging and doing a full disk clone. However I have read that this is bad? When I first started some one showed me WDS which we used to take an image of a PC again with software on and deploy to all the pc's. Or is it best to just use MDT?

OK, so what do you backup in Sims? Our LA back ours up but I just want to also make sure that we have a copy ( we are looking at going to hosted Sims)

I think I have done it correct but just wanted to check. I went into systems manager > create backup > gave it a Description and got a .bak file saved ( 1Gb we are a primary school with not much stuff on there) So what is this .bak file ? Is it just a backup of the MsSQL database? So all the data is there? Cheers Matt

I dont have to re image them all at one go? Domain Am I OK to use the old one? School.local I thought it was best to go with a new one?

Wonder if anyone is crazy enough to do this. I was planning on redoing our network over summer. Currently one server (dc/dhcp/dns + part file server) 2 NAS boxes, 70 pc's lots of ipads. Ranger 7 The server contains all the user profile and home directories. The NAS box is all the school shared and teacher shared drives. In my head I would get a new server visualise it, have one vm and dc,dhcp, dns and another as the file server, printserver, antivirus host. The plan also is to limit staff space to 10Gb and also impose quotes on shared teacher drives etc. None of the work is going to be transferred by me the staff are to be responsible for taking off the work that they need from the old server and to organise it on the new server themselves. This is what the Head wants as there is stuff from 2006 currently taking up space that is not needed. So they want a fresh start. My plan was staff get all the data before summer. I do this over summer and when they come back new system in place for them to use. I'm assuming that all 70pcs would need reimaging to get rid of ranger and to get on the new domain. I have been asked if this can be done sooner? I'm guessing I could get the server set up without having to take the network down setting up the new users and shares? But then to do the computer migration and getting the users to the new domain would result in downtime?

Just wondering how you would do this. We have one server that is virtualised been a primary school it is the server that does everything DHCP /DNS / DC and the file server. Everything is running fine. But we have 1 spare licence of Server 2012 that we could deploy as a VM. What would you use this spare one for? I'm looking at rolling out office 2016, so my thought was to make a software distro server and Windows update server and just power it up when I need to put out updates or new software. Does this sound like a plan or ?

Does anyone have a IT strategic plan that they don't mind sharing? I think my job role is changing dramatically and want to get ahead of it. Or any guidance would be good. Thanks in advance

Ubiquiti at one of my primary schools and works spot on and so much cheaper then the netgear solution we have in my other school which is slow and drops out. AS mentioned above you but the AP's and thats it. No on going licencing for stuff that you potentially may not use.

Hi Just looking for some guidence on Computer AUP's Computer AUP's is there anything legally we are required to put into these or that we cant put in? From a brief look at some sites I cant see anything definitive on this. We have one for pupils, staff and visitors. Is there any other important docs I need to be looking at to?

Last week I got approached by a TA saying that the kids in the hub cover there ears for a minute every so often as there is a really high pitch noise coming from somewhere. Apparently this has been happening since November but thought to mention it now. I did make the joke about was it the teacher talking. The problem I have is the noise is at random times and its that high pitched that the teacher, TA and myself cant hear it. There is nothing much electrical in there one computer, connected to a smart TV, an access point and the lights. Any ideas on what to do?

Hi Andrew @AJWhite1970, How difficult are these to get set up and running? Will an old PC with windows 7 do or should I go linux? We have about 70 pcs and lots of ipads

I have searched and most threads on here bring up either software inventory or pc inventory. Sort of spiceworks or open-AudIT Im not a fan of Spiceworks. What I am after if possible is some software that I can assign Electrical Items too. At the moment we have a paper folder with all the assets in and to be honest its a bit of a mess. I have created a spreadsheet that has a tab for each different room in school and then just put in the computer, laptop, projector, cameras in to there. Which is just like and electronic version of the folder. Is there a better system out there thats free/open source or am I going to have to look at building something.
