What MIS are you using is there not a feature built within it for that, which you could utilise?

Article: EduGeek at BETT 2013 - ICT-Direct DIY Touch Table
Max_Power replied to Domino's topic in Legacy CMS Comments
Did they give you a potential on sale date? When I asked they said they weren't sure but possibly summer time. -
Dug out my quotation for Intouch in case Phil Neall is referring to the outlined pricing I posted as being inaccurate. Our school has 1500 students (although I dont think this impacts on the pricing?) Intouch licence / module was quoted at £2995 Installation was £495 Annual Maintenance is £995 Total cost for first year is £4485 +VAT (£5382 inc VAT) While year on year costs are cheaper than schoolcomms (for us anyway), the initial cost is of great significance. As already mentioned above by myself and others there is some functionality lacking in both products, but lets see what BETT brings in terms of announcements.

Going through the same kind of decision making process at the moment. Used schoolcomms for a number of years without issue, but the functionality is becomingbetter more available within SIMS via intouch. The argument that we can use schoolcomms from anywhere isnt viable any more as we can remote access SIMS so on snow days etc is still possible to alert staff and parents of a closure. Some functionality is missing from within schoolcomms such as emailing or texting only primary two parents, also being able to pin all communications to a pupil record in SIMS is something we are looking for and in touch will deliver. Final part is that we have 22 people in school that use schoolcomms so its a pain to constantly update, and people do forget the memorable data and password etc where as SIMS is just a simple logon and no need for updates. Only downside up to now of intouch is the cost - around £4000 in the first year. OUCH!

BETT 2013 - Obligatory "what are you looking for" thread

Never heard of SAMR - quick search on net = that looks like a good model to assess the shiny stuff V something that will be of benefit. Mobile Tech, language lab and MAC based software are on my agenda this year. As well as early years technology for a 3-7 year olds. -

[ipad] Apple VPP, how exactly am I ment to use it?

Thanks @RTFM Using Meraki. Works well for free apps, just struggling with the VPP paid for ones at the moment and help documentation is limited. -
[ipad] Apple VPP, how exactly am I ment to use it?
Max_Power replied to galvocca's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Entered the correct codes in to the box, and deployed the app. The ipad picks up the command to install and asks me to enter the apple ID and password. However it rejects the apple VPP account ive setup that i used to buy the apps in the first place and says that, that particular ID can only be used within the VPP store? So which apple ID should i be entering on the ipad to install it? -

About to use the Meraki app deployment with paid for appsfrom the VPP for the first time. Can anyone confirm which code I enter into the box? I've downloaded the codes from the VPP site and I get a spreadsheet that contains a code and a code redemption link? Which do i enter in the meraki box? dont want to enter the wrong thing and mess it all up and end up being able to get back the licence etc -
Do you allow Facebook for teachers?
Max_Power replied to dany2010's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
That's the view that was taken here. We use smoothwall and facebook is available for all staff from 5pm in the evening until 8am the next morning. Not available during the school day when students are on site, except for a couple of senior staff who use it for investigative circumstances. -
Have it running as a remote App through HAP+ on my surface RT, but thats as close as you'll get.

Couple of CMs in Manchester nothing amazing, were open as usual :-(

There support is very good, I do not question that. But the software is at times something to be desired. Having tired all sorts to resolve various issues, relating to both the software and other anomalies, we feel it maybe time to look at something else.

Thanks both, Ill just keep on looking hopefully there will be something at BETT

Just wondering what product you went for in the end @enjay ? We have Sanako but bored to tears of it not working properly, so looking for alternatives. Seen one called School shape but not managed to find any information on it apart from on its own website. Considering apple based products as well now, as we are looking to get a full MAC suite so possibly kill two birds with one stone.

[sims] Export a SIMS .net timetable to a user's Exchange Callander

Never knew that, and dont remember seeing it on the website back in 2007/08 when looking at the web parts for sharepoint. All good though. -
[sims] Export a SIMS .net timetable to a user's Exchange Callander
Max_Power replied to Rawns's topic in MIS Systems
Not looked at salamander for a couple of years, my how its moved on. Even a Capita partner! Have to investigate that - ability to add all timetables (staff and students) to exchange would be most beneficial. -
In the first year we saved over £8000. You will need the SLT backing to enforce any kind of credit system as it will receive negativity from some staff. I ensured that any saving would be put back into my budget, as then it can be spent on IT to support teaching and learning etc. I think in the first year we purchased 10 new open access PCs and a projector install for the theatre. I would consider the top 10 list in the staff room carefully, it could been seen as victimisation.

Details can be found here on if it will result in failure Windscreen safety & repair | AA wont do any harm in asking just to be on the safe side.
-
As mentioned above, make sure itll pass MOT if fixed. If chip is within certain area of windscreen you aren't allowed any blemishes.
-
Still waiting for my surface to be delivered hence the question. Good to know that it works well, and its winning over the mass of iPad fans or Buzz word fans out there
-
Not that I am an iPad fan etc, but wouldn't what you say be achievable on the iPad using terminal server? Or do you mean you have configured outlook on the surface to work correctly?

Setting Recipient Limits on Exchange Mailbox- Exchange 2007
Max_Power replied to rajukiran99's topic in Enterprise Software
Welcome to Edugeek This should work for individual but not sure how to apply that to a spreadsheet. Set-Mailbox -Identity "xyx" -RecipientLimits 0 You can apply a similar line to a group of users if they have something in common within exchange -
Smoothwall Support - Your comments?
Max_Power replied to danbee's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
While i am able to do as you suggest and do so frequently the live monitor doesnt always come back with information and hangs, also the issue comes when staff and students request for a blocked page to be unblocked and we get around to it say a day later, they say the telegraph doesn't work, when in reality it does and we need to trawl back and test and look for a specific page that's being blocked. We dont always have time to log in as a student user to test out websites. The smoothwall was new in summer, and I understand there will be teething problems related to the unblocking of things required, however it just seems to be a painful task at the moment. We generally can receive around 15 requests a day to unblock sites and we have asked for more information on how to allow specifics more efficiently as a result. An example being during PHSE lessons the students are asked to find out information on certain drugs, but we obviously don't want to allow the websites that sell them. So a best practice for instances such as that would be useful. Under no illusions that some aspects are quite possibly training related or at least require a conversation on how to get the best out of smoothwall for what we want, but at the moment that isn't forthcoming, despite asking the questions. Smoothwall was the best product on the market when we reviewed content filtering and protection etc but it feels like its a battle at the moment.
