  1. but in any school a TA will know the CHILD often better than the teacher- this gives them a better idea of how to get an idea across
  2. Special schools like that do exist-- I work in one, and was a TA a myself. TA's especial ours do an excellent job, and can, when working in conjunction with a good teacher enhance the teaching of the class. Everyone has skills that others don't have, and good teachers will recognise and use those skills for the benefit of the children. The problem currently is most councils have reshuffled special schools and given them specific designations, is, PCSN, ASD, etc. Then they try and get special schools to take children that are not under their designation- and with population growth there isn't room for more children. We were new build 5 years ago, and now we are oversubscribed with a waiting list. We are now being asking to push outreach support for secondary and primaries in the area, and most of the time it is our experienced TA's who are asked to go and help other TA's. Specialist teachers do go out, but then it is their specialist TA's covering the class as ASD pupils will kick off at the thought of an unknown and new face in their classroom. TA's help our teachers a lot- even if most of them cause problems for me- computer illiterate bunch!!lol- I understand the need for them. and the usual ender Gove is an idiot! took too long typing it seems!
  3. though the ones I stupidly posted above have mics-- they do do others......
  4. we buy ours from Hills components Hills Components UK
  5. We have had our tech services department "crack" them open, apparently on this one its not the battery that keeps the settings its part of the motherboard, according to them the batteries are fine. we need to replace the motherboards but they are saying they cant get parts, just wondered if anyone else had any ideas
  6. Apparently doesn't have one-- these are made to be hotswappable for batteries-- well that's what im told.
  7. Anyone know where I can get a couple of these?? Two of our laptops have a CMOS reset issue and has been traced to these, and apart from losing the data when the battery gives out, that's all that's wrong with them? Any help would be appreciated!

  13. look into CASPA for the attainment side-- small steps and fits in well for the durham p scale project- if you are part of that. As for noting things i know it sounds silly, we still use paper based records in their IEP files. You can put notes in CASPA but we tend to note in it only things that relate to assessment.
  14. You do need to be aware that in most special schools that is the way it is done- there is no MIS that will do everything a special school wants and everything a main stream school wants. And as companies can make alot more money from licensing to mainstream schools they tend to go that direction.
  15. It depends exactly what you want the MIS to do. We use SIMS, alongside Bsquared Connecting Steps and CASPA- the last 2 are used mainly for the assessment part. Special School in Kent.

  19. How long have you been working in IT? about 7 or 8 years in total Is this your first, second, third, etc career? erm- unsure how to answer this one- as explained below What other jobs / roles have you done previously? got initial job as supply TA, the full time TA, then helped out wit ICT lessons, the tech left and got her hours while new building was being built and covered reception, moved to new building, was receptionist, and did a little ICT, then got moved to admin with a little TA support, now finally admin, with ICT Tech responsability, tho its becoming to much for me doing it part time and 1 day a week external help How many interviews did it take to get your first job in IT? none Have you ever felt that being female is a help or a hindrance to gaining a job in IT? not really if they think im dumb because im female, i soon put them right, also many primary techs i have met are female TA's with ICT responsabilty like i was If you were considering IT (or other engineering / programming careers) whilst at school what support did you receive? not much really, was persuaded tht science was a better idea, but was more interested in the new tech coming out for special needs kids that i knew from the school i worked out, so that ended up being my path. Being a tech in a special school is a lot different froma a mainstream school because there are lots of extra equipment that you need to be aware of, luckily (or unluckily some might say) my remit also covers all communication devices within the school, and access kit, and i am supported well in that training.
