Only got it last night, so a bit of testing going on.... Trying to get NOW working, but not really understood it yet....and tips are welcome

The whole point of Android is to server the community. Phones are released...and very rarely do the providers/manufacturers want to push out the updated software as this could stop people buying a new phone. However, with such a thriving community, it's not long before a build or port gets pushed out. This is the beauty of Android over some other OS (in MY view). I'm guessing a stock Galaxy is still back on Gingerbread....but, with a little knowledge and the help of a good community, I can forge ahead into the next builds without needing to upgrade a phone that is only 12 months old, and 9 months away from an upgrade point. Fragmentation won't kill Android (imo).... I think it is a very strong model.

Morning all! If you have a Samsung Galaxy S, you may be interested to know that there is a ROM available on XDA for Jelly Bean. I installed this last night and all seems nice and stable at the mo. Give me a shout if you need any help/directions etc!

I understand completely, Gatt, but I felt that the other side of the story needed to be shown as well. I would think that by saturday night you'll be in a much better position to know what to do. It was not meant to suggest that you would willingly expose others to a possible disease, just that it should be thought about very carefully when the time comes to travel. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your family, and hope the youngster recovers in time. EDIT: And I don't think I made it clear enough in my first post that the time to make the decision would be as late as possible.

I really hate to do this....but someone has to.... IF the spots have NOT scabbed over, you are going to HAVE to stay at home. The problem with aeroplanes is that they are a closed air environment. The air just gets pumped around the plane. This means that if there is ANY chance of infection, the illness could spread like wildfire. Turn the situation around for a minute.... How would you feel if you'd got on a plane, for a nice holiday, and during your holiday you or your children came down with an illness that you suspected was from another passenger on the flight.... How would you feel? I truly hope that the chickenpox has cleared, and you and your family can go on holiday.... Buddha/God/Your own particular deity knows that everyone needs a holiday now and again, but you cannot, in all conscience, put others at risk. Insurance should pay out on a doctors cert.

I hate to sound like a curmudgeonly old sod, but I very rarely watch anything on ITV and Ch4/5 because of the adverts. They all annoy me for differing reasons.... 1. Lipstick/make up.... Can women REALLY not see the "soft-focus" effect? 2. Cars.... That's it.... Make a generic advert for EVERY market by using only those letters and numbers that look the same back-to-front.... I.E V,M,T,W,1,8,0 (This list is not exhaustive!) 3. Phones... Oh...suddenly, you're MADE to put "sequences have been shortened" on your ads, otherwise people would complain that their iThing is slower than the ad model! 4. Insurance ... We KNOW we need it... Just tell us what you offer instead of getting someone to sing.... or, indeed, getting comedians to do "funny" ads.... I'm looking at you, Chris Addison/Alexander Armstrong 5. Food... McDonalds/BK/KFC... We KNOW your food doesn't actually look like that by the time the box is handed to us.... STOP giving us a false version of what you sell! AAAAAnnnnnnndddd Breathe!!! Oh...and whilst I'm on this.... The new Go Compare posters have been radically altered around a certain Northants town.... Perhaps @synaesthesia or @GrumbleDook have noticed??

On the subject of obscure footballers.... I used to play football with Imre Varadi! ( Check wiki!!) He was a foster child, with his brother, with a family on my street and always used to play football with us. Then, he was playing for Letchworth United (may have been when they changed to LGCFC), and before you know it, he'd been scouted by Harry Haslam.....Noted manager of Sheff United. Further transfers included to Leeds, Newcastle and Everton....Much to the delight of my Toffee-supporting sister!

I preferred the WWII games, as the tech was simpler, and it took a bit more skill to get kills.... Let's face it, pretty much anyone can run through CoDMW3 with a machine gun, cutting down all before you, whereas BF1942 and MoH had a bit more stategy to them. I still think that nothing beats flying a Spitfire over Gazala and strafing the Hun!!!

I think the most important thing about that report is that it shows the basic intelligence level in the States! However, let's not be too harsh on them...we have our own history of stupidity via the television....
