Hello, I recently took over a small primary school when the last tech mucked up the new server install. I have got everything back up and running and want to set up a secure ssl site in IIS on the 2008r2 box. I was just about to request a new cert from SSL Certificates SSL Wildcard SSL Free Certificates SSL Server Certificate 256 bits when I stumbled on a folder on the server with some certificates in. After asking a few questions it turns out the old tech had already created some certs using an Adito system which I think is based on linux (not sure), anyway none of that setup exists any more. Is it possible to import and use the certificates already saved on the server or do I need to run through setting up a new cert process? NB. I am a noob when it comes to certs Cheers

That is odd, I am also setting up rdweb apps to work over HAP and get an error when using externally. I will be watching this thread.

Setting up remote desktop over rdweb
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I give up.... Thought it might be self cert causing the issue, although MS say this works for testing so decided to look at CA cert services role but this has just opened up more potential dead ends. Don't suppose anyone has a step by step for using certificate server or self cert and setting up remote desktop services in simple steps. -
[windows tablet] Microsoft Surface

Has anyone used both keyboards? Might have to buy without trying, which is a pain. At the moment is was thinking about the type keyboard as it is more like the keyboard I currently use. -
I was speaking to someone from StoneComputers who thinks at some point the Smartboard software will not work if it does not detect the hardware.

Hi Just playing with rdweb in a test setup but get an error trying to connect to remote desktop. info, 2008r2 server remote desktop = windows 7 64bit(vm) I have used a self signed cert and imported it on to client machine. I can connect to remote desktop from internal network using rdweb (https://server/rdweb) but get the following error from external network, although I can view the rdweb site it just borks when connecting to the remote desktop. :ERROR Remote Desktop can't find the computer name . This might mean that name does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to.

Hi, I am trying to import the Google Chrome policy in to GP (2008r2). I have done this a lot over the past few weeks at different schools but today the policy will not import. What I am doing is copying the admx file in to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and then the adml file in to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US Then when I create a new group policy the Google policy should be located in 'Policies\Admin Templates' but it is not listed. Any idea what is going on.

DHCP server IPV6 settings
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
ok I have just enabled ipv6 in the adapter settings on a single server network, what should I type for IPV6 Address and Subnet prefix length? NB. this server is only dishing out ipv4 (dhcp) to the network clients. -
Cheers. These companies are really holding back this tech and drip feeding it to us. I went to the science museum in London about 10 years ago and they had a 'future 3d tv' special demo exhibit on that week with 2 TV sets doing glasses less 3d. The image colour was washed out but the 3d element coming out was crystal clear and yeas ahead of anything I have seen since.

Just got a new Samsung TV (E-series) and it has a fantastic picture quality but the 'active' 3d flicker hurts my eyes and I can only manage about 5 minutes. I would have thought they would have sorted this out by now. Just interested if I should have got passive 3d instead.

DHCP server IPV6 settings
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Yes. In fact I have just checked the network adapter on our server and it is disabled. If I enable it, what should I type for IPV6 Address and Subnet prefix length. -
DHCP server IPV6 settings
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks. Another question, If I wanted to manually enter an IP6 address in to a client how would I know what to put. With IP4 it was domain ip + client number. -
When setting up DHCP server in 2008r2 what settings do you choose for the IPV6 page. It has things like stateless etc.

Google Chrome ADM or ADMX + other question
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Office Software
The software just does not deploy via computer policy. If I gpupdate /force it says it needs to reboot to complete policy settings but that is that, reboot and chrome is not installed. If I apply the software via a user policy it gets installed as soon as my test user logs in. -

I have been trying to apply the GPO to the computer policy all day without any luck. Works fine as a user policy, but this is not what I want. How should I start to fault find this issue. EDIT - sorry the GPO mentioned above is the Chrome msi installer software. -

Just found this Extract the Chrome policy_template.zip file. The chrome.adm file for the English language can be found in \policy_templates\windows\adm\en-US\chrome.adm. 2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates. Right click on Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Templates. 3. In the Add/Remove Templates dialog, click the Add button and select the chrome.adm file from the extracted Chrome policy templates location -
