Secondary school near me is going 1 2 1 with I-pads for all pupils and staff. They are ditching every desktop and laptop. They say they are doing this as most students can use an i-pad. My response = Should we not be preparing them for the work environment which would be the very items you are ditching. I can see why a school would want a tablet but only as an addition to the systems in place and not as the only system. IMO Tablets are for consuming, computers are both consuming and creating.

Agree for things like COD which seem to have auto aim but BF3 works very well on a console using a game pad.
-
The upcoming sequel will most likely be announced for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as the aforementioned PS4 and Xbox 720 during a press event on March 26

Also BF2 was more of a Sim in terms of the helicopters and planes. They were much more realistic to control.
-
they could bring back the commander. I think it was battlefield 2 that had a commander that could send orders to the platoons and scan the entire map for enemies. I missed that in v3 on unless it was just removed on the xbox 360 version.

That makes them much more appealing. I was wondering about that issue myself. -
I was just looking on this site and stumbled on a post that said it was best to use 'd:/folder/username/share$/documents' as the home folder when setting users home folder in AD. At my schools I am using 'd:/Staff$/username'. with staff being the shared folder. What do others use? and does it make much difference from a user / security point of view?

All sorted. Once I could see the folder I deleted it and the did the restore.
-
managed to display a grayed out folder by ticking 'display protected operating system files' but when I right click on the grayed out folder and go to properties the hidden box is ticked and grayed out.
-
yes browsing to the share displayed the files.

It looked like someone had deleted a folder full of work from the server so I went to restore from a backup but the restore asked if I wanted to overwrite the missing folder. So it looks like the folder is not missing but hidden from view. I have been in to folder settings and enabled things like 'show hidden files' etc but still the folder is hidden. I ran a restore but still not viewable. Any pointers how to fix this oddity.

Home access to staff shared drive for teachers.
edutech4schools replied to mrwobbly's topic in How do you do....it?
This also depends on how secure you want things. At it's most locked down it will only work on W7 or W8 but if you turn down the protocols and authentication it could work with any device that can rdp. -
That is a pain as we have disabled the groups app. Odd that a user can create a group in contacts and that group is available everywhere even sites but not the calendar and the user is required to use a discussion app to create a group for the calendar.

She does need to print it at home. She prints a report and then ticks of items as she works, or something like that. -
[sims] Remote Desktop, FMS reports + printer error
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in MIS Systems
I have been checking and double checking that with her. Not something I can physically check as it is all set up at her home, but she informs me that it is. -
When creating groups of users in groups should it be done from the admin control area or specifically from the groups app area as a user?

Hi all, I have set up remote desktop + gateway so the bursar can work from home on FMS. Everything works as expected except when she goes to reports she gets an error (do not have error message to hand) which relates to needing to be connected to a printer. From home she has connected her home printer which gets listed as a remote printer in her remote desktop, but this does not fix the issue. Next while at home I got her to select the XPS document writer but this appears on her desktop as 'remote XPS document writer' and does not work in FMS. What am I missing.

I will have a go using google groups. Not a big school, but if they want a school shared calendar, adding each person one by one is not a great way to do it.
-
I am trying to share a google calendar with a group of work colleagues without luck. I have google apps for ed setup. In the calendar under my user name I have created a new calendar called shared calendar. In contacts I have created a group of users called sharedusers in calendar settings under 'Share with specific people' I have entered my group using [email protected] but in a colleagues calendar my shared calendar does not show. If I go to the 'other calendars' section (still logged in as my colleague) and type in my username (I am the one that created the shared calendar) it says that I do not have access to this calendar. What am I missing.

importing contacts into Google not working

I found it does not like odd symbols in the csv file. in a name field I had a # symbol on just one line. When I removed it everything worked.
