Just setting up a new 2012R2 server and one of the first options is to decide if it boots using BIOS or UEFI. When I asked this question last year I was told to keep it simple and pick BIOS, is this still the case? Thanks

We have 1 printer at our small primary school, and we have not been able to print properly for a few days. When I check the printer and the jobs listed to be printed nothing is listed unless I do an actual print, at which time it does get listed in the jobs to be printed but never prints. If I check the actual spooler folder I have 2 0kb files FP00000.spl & FP00000.shd. If I stop the spooler service and delete these 2 files and restart the service they come back after approx 15mins, but I am able to print in this 15 min window. I can't find a way to locate where these files are coming from, so came in early today before any computers were on (hopefully) and got the same result. Anyone have any idea what's going on as it's driving me a bit nuts.

can we delete items from the SIMS DOCSTORAGE folder
edutech4schools replied to Millsy79's topic in MIS Systems
No, just one version of SQL is needed -
All our staff have decent laptops but they also need to photograph a lot of pupils work for evidence so we got some 8 inch Samsung Android tablets a few years ago. I have been asked to get another batch of tablets but not sure if I should stick with the same make / model. The staff have been happy with the Samsung tablets but the price of a Windows tablet has fallen lots over the last few years. So my options are 1 - Get another batch of Samsung tablets 2 - Get a Google Nexus 9 tablet as the school already uses GAFE and it can link in to GAFE. 3 - Get a Windows tablet as the school already has a Windows server and the staff could easily access their network drives, software and printers. I am leaning towards a Windows tablet.

Manually updating Sims to Autumn update (solus2)
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in MIS Systems
Index. did the trick. Thanks. Good old LA who are also Capita accredited once again give me dodge info. -
Normally we update Sims using Solus 2 but the files have corrupted so our LA have sent me the files to manually install. I did have to do this a few years ago and seem to remember needing to do the update by running DBupgrade. This time the LA instructions simply say run SIMSApplicationsetup. Can someone confirm if I should run SIMSApplicationsetup to upgrade to the Autumn version. Thanks

Not noticed anything in the software about Mesh modes so I would say not an option but not at the school until Thursday to double check. -
We have decided to start using a hut for meetings etc as we have no room in our small primary school, and although the wireless signal just about reaches I am worried it will drop off just when it's needed. At the edge nearest the school I am getting 2 out of the 5 bars on my laptop but it drops down rapidly as I move to the middle of the hut. Currently we have the basic Unifi WiFi around the school. Would getting a longer range Unifi ap be better than a WiFi extender? Never used an extender, are they any good? I cant seem to find any wifi extenders on the Ubiquiti Unifi website. Open to all and any ideas, but must be cheap cheap.

Need to build a Steam machine for a friend
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in General Chat
With that it lists under Compatibility Notes - Some Intel H81 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs. Would I need a processor that does support the motherboard in order to run the bios update before using the i5-4460? -

Need to build a Steam machine for a friend

OK I am back on this and my friend is coming round tomorrow. He has £550 so not going to be a blazing rig. Currently this system is coming in at £650 https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/TwistedHelixis/saved/#view=WjJ323 and I somehow need to get it down to £550. I can do it if I change out the case for a standard atx case and then the PSU and Motherboard for standard parts but he really wants it to fit in the mini itx case. Anyone got any thoughts how I can best get the price down (even by £50) without compromising the system too much. -
Not sure whats going on but I need to create a new folder on our servers data drive (D). I can create a new folder but when I try to rename it I get this error message - the action cannot be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program I can delete the new folder, just not rename it. I am the only person who has access to the servers d drive and am logged in as domain admin. Any thoughts?

I tried setting this up yesterday, I have the correct ports opened, installed Google Cloud print service on the print server, but when I print from a test client the job gets received on the Google printer Q but never makes it back in to the school.

We had something similar when SEGFL had added our new MX & DNS records but not removed the old ones.
