  1. Basically the cable goes from the faulty plug directly into the mini amp and is not switchable with a replacement adapter. When we got one replaced under warranty they had to re-wire the internal amp system with the new cable / plug. If the school had to get something new it would mean replacing the entire amp system, just because of these faulty power plugs.
  2. Its snapped off and left behind in the mains socket
  3. Should have added that these adapters are not under warranty anymore.
  4. I will not name the company but they are one of the biggest in educational hardware sales. 3 years ago we got 6 new smartboard systems installed along with sound systems at a primary school. About 15 months later the amp power adapter Earth pin broke in the wall power socket. The amp is basically a volume button on the wall. Even though it was still under warranty we had lots of issues getting it fixed as the adapter was not a standard adapter and went directly into the back of the amp. This Month (about 3 years after install) we have had another two adapters fail with the Earth pin snapping off in the wall power sockets. The only time these adapters are un-plugged is so they can be pat tested, so it's not like they are getting pushed in and out all the time. The company have basically refused to supply a replacement, as they can no longer get the adapters. Am I right in thinking that under EU law the supplier have a duty of care to be able to replace parts for up to 6 years after sale, and they should be offering to replace these as they were effectively defective at the point of sale (half of the units sold have been faulty). Any advice would be most welcome.
  5. phew, fixed it. Looks like when I imported the database it must have been corrupted or something, exporting and re-importing a working database did not help but ticking the box to DROP users when exporting the database and then importing a working database worked.
  6. I had this a while back on 3 machines but upgrading to a new version fixed it.
  7. Just migrated Sims to a new server and get 'invalid username or password' when trying to login at the server. Both servers are running SQL 2012 express I have tried to detach the database from the old server in import it on the new one, but still get the error. If I re-import the database back onto the OLD server Sims works fine. SQL manager does list all the users and changing the password from SQL manager does not help. Have contacted LA and they did send me an email with things to try but that did not help. Would be very grateful if anyone can help.
  8. Not veeam, a combination of Windows backup (host vm backup and file level backup) and RedStor (off site backup) Think I have a good solution now using the VHD option, but need to do some more testing.
  9. Problem is they are out of cash and have a server with lots of free storage space.
  10. Looking to save a few quid and move our offsite backup from a company that is charging us ££££ to another school that has said it's ok. We do also do onsite backups, so we are only talking about worst case disaster recovery backups. Both schools are primary schools, so not much cash or hardware hanging round. Both schools are running Windows server Hyper-V 2012r2 hosts with a virtual server that holds all the data. Both school hosts do have enough spare space to hold the files from the other school. Should I install another windows 2012r2 server as a vm on the host and backup to this from the other school? Should I simply backup to some space on the the host server directly? Is it possible to create a vitual hdd and backup to this? Any thoughts?
  11. Still have proxy issues and wondered if anyone else is having the same problems or has any idea what I am doing wrong? Problem 1 - If I create an installer with proxy settings the client Avast software still installs as direct connection. Problem 2 - If I use a settings template that has the proxy settings the client Avast software fills in the proxy address correctly and port address but does not untick 'Use a direct connection' so does not use the proxy.
  12. Thanks all working
  13. Just installed a new 2012r2 server, installed DC roles, moved roles from old 2008r2 server and now need to migrate the DHCP scope. I have tried 3 different ways of migrating DHCP found online, and all have failed. Can someone post the correct way to migrate DHCP from 2008r2 server to 2012r2 please.
  14. I am using Cloudberry to do this at some school - Cloud Backup and Cloud Storage Management Solutions. CloudBerry Lab
  15. and hope its not using RAID5 as that's not great at rebuilding drives
  16. I would find out if it is under warranty and if it is give Dell a call
  17. Do I need to backup each of my domain controllers using system state or can I just backup 1?
  18. Worked out why we have got so many 'In Danger' devices. A while back we changed our proxy sever address, which I updated in the AVAST settings template. when I look at the proxy settings on all devices it has been set to none. Some kind of glitch with changing the proxy address?????? I will now have to visit each computer and update the proxy info.
  19. Ha, famous last words. Might do it remotely over the weekend as something is bound to go wrong.
  20. Was just about to install a new 2012r2 DC in to our 2008r2 domain and ran dcdiag which gave a few replication issues. Each of the errors had this - Recommended Action: See Knowledge Base Article: Q312862 and on further research the error is not a big issue but just informing me that our 2008r2 servers are using FRS to replicate. This is a primary school and we have 2 DC's. So, should I follow the sysvol migration info? - SYSVOL Migration Series: Part 1 – Introduction to the SYSVOL migration process - The Storage Team at Microsoft - File Cabinet Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs Should I just ignore and install my new 2012r2 server? Would installing a 2012r2 server automatically migrate from FRS to DFS Anyone else already done this????
  21. Let me know how it goes as I need to do something similar soon, and have been putting it off.
  22. I have 85 devices with Avast but in the console it lists '60 DEVICES ARE IN DANGER'. I have been clicking on 'View devices' and then clicking on each computer in the list and clicking 'Update Program' or 'virus definitions' but the amount of devices in danger keeps going up. Any advice why this is happening or what I am doing wrong would be great
  23. Trying to trim our remote backup size as it's taking ages to backup and noticed we have C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server getting backed up each night. We do export and backup the Sims & Fms databases each night, so is there any need in backing up all the files in the SQL Server folder? If I follow the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQL2012\MSSQL I get to the following folders, Backup Binn DATA ....... I notice in the DATA folder I have the .ldf &.mdf database files, are these actually usable if something went wrong with our normal nightly Sims & FMS export backups?
